"What are you talking about?" I asked softly.

Andrea looked up at the rest of the parent who nodded at her. Her head slowly turned to me.

She looked so upset.
So guilty.

I understood... partially.

Tears escaped my eyes, "Now I find out about this?"

Andrea opened her mouth to speak, but shut it again.

"All of you knew?"

Mr. Cooper spoke up, "Sort of... it's not like we could tell you. Even my wife didn't know about the spy thing until recently."

"I thought you couldn't tell anyone," Ellie remarked.

Derek's dad sighed, "I couldn't. I wasn't supposed to. I told my boss that my family needed an explanation for this."

"Why now!?" I yelled. My voice lowered before speaking again, "I've been living a lie. My parents were a lie. Everything was a lie."

I couldn't accept what was happening. Why did the New Year come so soon?
"I don't believe this."

"It's a lot to take in. I'm sorry," Andrea whispered in my ear.

"It is," I admitted, "But I need to hear it from you."

"I'm your mom."

Okay, so I didn't tie up all the loose ends. Who cares!?  Me, that's who!
