Ethan Jenner paid the doorman to discover that Jackson was indeed at home. He set up in the alley across the street. He adjusted his 200mm lens focusing at length on Kate who was positively stunning, leaning up against the wall a few doors down.

Her red hair fell in soft waves around her face, her makeup was done to perfection. She must have had someone else do it for her as he knew her to be a minimalist when it came to makeup, and her hair was normally pulled back in a ponytail so it wouldn't interfere with her photography.

The dress she wore looked expensive and hugged her every curve. He took a few shots of her adjusting his focus. If only it were so easy to do so in real life. Whenever Kate showed up his focus was completely shot.

He looked in the lens again and she turned her head. Ethan would have sworn Kate was staring straight at him. He narrowed the focus to capture those beautiful green eyes of hers. "Stupid, woman. What the hell am I doing here?" Ethan took another few shots.

Kate had been taking notes on Jackson's actions over the last week. She noticed he had a routine. Since this was all staged it made sense, his actions weren't random.

Sure, enough he exited the building just as she predicted.

"Show time."

Kate saw Jackson exit the building, now it was time to make her move. She strutted towards him in her stilettos with confidence and she saw when he took note of her.

She wanted to smile but acted unaffected. When she got close enough, she pretended to trip over the pavement. She gasped but two firm arms reached out and saved her.

Kate pressed her hand over her heart bringing Jackson's attention to how low cut her dress was. "Oh, thank you! My heart feels like it was going to leap out of chest. I really thought..." Her actions were punctuated with how breathy her words came out.

Jackson took a moment to steady her. "Are you, okay?"

Kate looked up at him and gave him a breath-taking smile. "I am now that you saved me. How can I ever thank you?"

A million ways flashed through Jackson's mind but he let his hands fall to his sides. "No need." He pulled away and took a step past her.

Kate walked forward but yelped in pain which caused Jackson to look back. He sighed and turned around to put his hands on Kate's shoulders to steady her as she tried to balance on one foot. Kate gingerly turned her ankle and winced in pain.

"Can you put pressure on it?"

Kate tried out Jackson's suggestion and she seemed capable. Her hand reached up across her chest to touch his. "I should be fine. I turned over on it when I tripped. It's a little sore is all."

Jackson let her go to come around and face her. She tried to take a step forward and managed to do so but with a limp.

Jackson sighed. "You may have sprained it. Let me hail you a cab."

"Thank you," Kate said and he took her arm to lead her over to the side of the road. He waved down a cab and asked her where she was headed.

"I was planning on going home before I needed to meet someone but now, I may be late."

"Well, then I guess the ride will help you make up the time."

Jackson pulled the door open for her and took her hand so she could lower herself onto the seat.

"I feel terrible," Kate said giving Jackson an appreciative once over look. "It's obvious you were heading somewhere. Do you want to share the cab?"

Jackson was heading to Raphael's but knew he couldn't be seen with her. "Thank you but no."

"Okay. Thanks again. You're my hero."

Jackson gave her that million-dollar smile of his. Despite that fact that this was all an act, Kate found her heart race at the sight of it. Damn he was good.

"Have a good night," he told her.

"You, too." Kate shut the door and then asked the cabbie to drive around the block.

One her way around the corner she asked that the he pull over a moment. They were now at the other side of the alley. Ethan got into the cab.

"How did I do?" Kate asked sliding over so he could get in.

"Emmy worthy, for sure." Ethan put his camera bag on his lap.

Kate giggled but Ethan had trouble smiling. Through the lens they definitely could be mistaken as lovers and Ethan didn't like it one bit.

"What now?"

"I go to the Raphael's and see if he shows up."

"How do you know he's going to Raphael's?"

"JB has been going to all of Evelyn's favorite haunts to make himself look like the reminiscing, heartbroken boyfriend. Raphael's is the next logical place he would go to eat."

"What's your plan? I discovered the owner is Evelyn's boss. She's been working for him behind the scenes for months now. The word is they are very close. So, I called him."

Ethan couldn't believe how far Kate was putting herself out for Calem. "What did he say?"

"He told me he knows the best place for you to take photos discretely and he is totally onboard with my plan."

Ethan grimaced. "Which is?"

"I go. I'll be alone and I'll see if he approaches me. If he doesn't then I'll approach him."

So, I have pictures of you meeting. Him putting you in a cab and then you'll both possibly dining together. Or at least that's what it will look like since he's sitting at your table or you're sitting at his."

"Exactly."

Ethan narrowed his eyes and stared at Kate. She squirmed under the scrutiny of his gaze. "I don't know whether to be scared or impressed."

Kate giggled. "Maybe a little bit of both?"

Finally, she got Ethan to smile. Jackson's smile may have caused her heart to race but Ethan's made it do summersaults in her chest.

Kate let Ethan off a block or so before they reached the restaurant. He entered the building around the back. Raphael was there to greet him.

"There is a booth that is placed in the corner of the restaurant. It's secluded and will give you the best view of the rest of the place. Whenever I get pictures taken of the interior, I pick this spot."

"Great. I'll go set up."

Raphael held Ethan back for a moment. "I want to thank you and Kate for doing this for Evelyn. I pray it will help."

Ethan couldn't promise anything so just nodded and left the kitchen. He immediately found the booth and set himself up. Raphael was right from this vantage point he'd could get a good shot no matter where Kate and Jackson sat.

He placed a menu up to hide his camera. The wait staff were instructed not to approach him. Jackson arrived first. Raphael met him at the entrance.

"What are you doing here?"

Jackson looked intimidating as he stared down at Raphael.

"Are you saying I'm not welcome?"

"After the stunt you pulled the last time, you were here? I would think that answer is a given, but as I can't afford the bad press..." Raphael grabbed a menu.

"Look, I'm not here to cause any trouble. I was just wondering if perhaps you knew where Evelyn was?"

"Even if I did why would I bother to tell you. She left you. So obviously, she wants to be left alone."

Jackson's jaw clenched along with his fist. "But she isn't alone, is she?"

Raphael smirked. "Well, I wouldn't know that would I? Are you staying or going?"

Jackson snatched the menu out of Raphael's hand and sat himself.

Ethan waited. Ten minutes later, Kate walked in. Raphael greeted her and lead her to her seat. Ethan noticed it was in direct line with Jackson's table. The man was good to his word. Ethan had the perfect view of them both no matter which table they ended up sitting at.

He heard Raphael ask if Kate hurt her ankle. Kate was still walking with a slight limp. Raphael offered his arm to her while she explained the whole story to him.

"It sounds as if you were saved just in the nick of time. Are you waiting for someone to join you?"

Jackson sloshed back his drink and Ethan noticed that he was watching Kate. At first, he looked surprised to see her there but now he looked at her with interest.

"Yes, my boyfriend."

Raphael smiled at her. "Lucky man."

Kate managed to pull off a shy smile before saying, "Thank you."

Raphael left and Ethan watched as Kate checked her watch and stared at the door, waiting it would seem for someone to walk through. Time progressed and the servers came over several times to ask if Kate would like to order but she turned them down looking more and more concerned.

Jackson was watching Kate, too. He hadn't ordered anything to eat, but had several drinks. He's face was contorted into a frown. Ethan wondered if Jackson would approach her. Then he called Kate.

Ethan wanted to laugh at her facial expression when she realized it was him. She picked up the phone.

"Pretend, I'm your boyfriend canceling our date."

"What? But it's our anniversary. Why?"

"Laying it on a bit think don't you think?" Ethan said but noticed Jackson perked up.

"You're breaking up with me? Now? Over the phone. You bastard!"

Ethan laughed but stifled it because he didn't want to draw attention to himself.

"You know if you were mine. I'd never let you go, right?"

He watched Kate color but it could easily be mistaken for her getting angry.

"How dare you talk to me that way?"

"Oh, I dare. I dare that and a whole lot more. So, let's get this over with shall we."

Kate hung up on Ethan and covered her face. It looked like she was crying but to Ethan it was obvious she was just embarrassed by what he said.

Jackson had seen enough. He stood up and walked over to her table. "Are you okay?"

Kate turned away, pretending to wipe her tears. "I'm fine. I..." She looked up and acted surprised to see Jackson standing there.

"May I?" he asked.

Kate nodded and Jackson took the seat across from her. "I'm sorry. I overheard part of your conversation and I just couldn't take it. You don't deserve to be left sitting here all alone. Let me buy you a drink."

Ethan cringed at hearing Jackson's words to Kate. This guy was a real piece of work.

Again, Kate nodded and Jackson called a server over ordering them a bottle of wine.

"Looks like you're my savior twice in one day," Kate said, drinking from the glass that Jackson poured her.

"So, the guy on the phone?"

"My boyfriend, or at least he was. He broke up with me." Kate bit her lips like she was trying to hold back tears. Ethan wondered when she became such a good actress.

"He's crazy," Jackson told her. "To turn down a woman who looks like you. He must be insane."

"It's not his fault really," Kate said running her finger around the rim of her glass. "He's the jealous sort. Always suspicious of me, never understanding that I'm a model and sometimes my job requires me to do certain things but it doesn't mean anything, you know?"

"I know exactly what you mean," Jackson said reaching over and taking Kate's hand in his.

Ethan's stomach turned as he watched Jackson rubbing his thumb over her hand, staring into Kate's eyes, acting as if he totally gets her, trying to comfort her. Still, he had a job to do and let the shutter fly.

After two glasses of wine, Kate acted a little tipsy, although Ethan knew she was a woman who could handle her liquor. "Do you mind if I get something eat? I'm starting to feel the effects of all this wine."

"Sure." Jackson called over the server again and they both ordered some food. Ethan was dying for this fake date to be over. It was driving him insane to watch Kate flirt with Jackson, laugh with him, act like she was over the moon to be with him.

To make matters worse, Jackson kept touching her. He held her hand or caressed her arm. Ethan took shots of him reaching over to wipe some sauce from the corner of Kate's mouth. This was torture for him. Why did he ever agree to do her this favor?

Ethan nearly lost it when he heard Kate ask if perhaps, they could extend their time together. Jackson smiled. "You know you've been with me all this time but you've never asked me my name. Is that because you know who I am?"

Kate looked so innocent when she shook her head no. "Should I? I've been working overseas in Paris and Milan. It's one of the reasons my boyfriend was so upset with me. We've been apart for quite some time now."

Ethan tensed at the fierce look of desire that shown on Jackson's face. Kate presented him with the Holy Grail. A woman who desired him without knowing he was famous.

"I'm..." Jackson didn't get to finish his sentence. Kate leaned over and put her finger to his lips.

"You don't know my name and I don't know yours. Don't you think it's so much better this way?"

Jackson took her hand and brought it to his lips. "So much better," he admitted. He turned over her hand and pressed his lips to her palm and Kate gasped.

Ethan wanted so badly to hurt this guy. Jackson put money on the table, and keeping hold of Kate's hand stood up, pulling her up with him. He closed the distance between them, his arm wrapped around her waist. Kate tilted her head up, her eyes fluttered closed, as Jackson closed the distance.

Ethan wanted to scream for him to back off but instead he held his camera in a death grip as he took shot after shot. Then Jackson's phone rang. He pulled away from Kate and apologized, before answering the phone.

"What?" He appeared angered by whatever was being said on the other line.

"I got it. Fine." Jackson hung up.

"I'm sorry something urgent has come up and I need to leave. It really was a pleasure spending time with you." He kissed her hand again and left Kate standing there, alone.

Kate looked devastated. She flopped down in the chair and sloshed down another glass of wine. Ethan wondered if she was actually falling for Jackson's BS. She got up and went to the bathroom.

A minute or two later she left. Ethan stayed put, wondering about the phone call. What would be so important that he'd drop Kate so suddenly? Then he thought of something he hadn't before.

About an hour later, Raphael came to his table. "Kate is waiting for you in the kitchen."

This surprised Ethan. He expected Kate to call or text. He put his camera away and followed Raphael into the kitchen. Kate was sitting on one of the counter tops that had already been cleaned. The staff was hustling to clean the rest of the kitchen since it was an hour 'til closing and everyone was eager to get home.

Kate waved to him, bouncing her high heeled leg, acting as if she had not a care in the world. Ethan stormed up to her. Her eyes widened in surprise, when he pulled her off the counter and slid her down the length of him. He refused to let her go.

"What's up with you?" Kate pushed at Ethan's chest, trying to put some distance between them. Ethan clenched his teeth. His breathing was hard and steady.

"We're done right? With this favor of yours?"

Kate frowned at him. "Almost."

"Almost?" He let Kate go. His hold on her was so tight that she stumbled backward.

"He didn't kiss me. Without the kiss, we just have a series of coincidences."

Ethan bent down to her level. His hands pressed on either side of the counter pinning her in place. "Have I caused you to hate me for some reason?"

His was now face to face with her. Kate swallowed hard, shying away from the intensity of his gaze. "I don't hate you."

"No? Then you enjoy torturing me. Is that it?"

Kate slowly shook her head from side to side.

"The guy was nearly making love to you at the table. Is this what you had me sign up for? Do you have any idea how dangerous this game is that you're playing?"

"Calem..."

Ethan covered her mouth with his hand. "I don't want to hear another word about Calem. Or how wonderful he is? Do you understand me?"

Kate ripped his hand away. "What has gotten into you?"

"What has gotten into me?" It only took a moment for Ethan to make up his mind on something that has been tormenting him since knowing Kate.

"This is what has gotten into me." Ethan grabbed Kate's face. Their lips met. His kiss was demanding, it held a deeper meaning that caused her to immediately cave. Only then did he pull away.

"Now do you understand?"

Kate silently nodded.

"Don't ever put me through that again."

"But I need to..."

"Kate! Please?"

"If I may interject." Raphael was standing nearby with his finger held up and a smile on his face. "I may have a way for you to put the last nail in the coffin without the need for any more emotional damage."

"Really?" Kate asked hopeful and Ethan stared at her dumbfounded.

"I called Evelyn's best friend, Dina. There is no one who knows Evelyn better. She told me that Evelyn made arrangements with her neighbor to water her plants."

Ethan wasn't following. "And?"

"Dina said she could get a hold of the key. If she gives the key to Kate and Kate is seen leaving Jackson's apartment..."

"It would look like I stayed there overnight and that would seal Jackson's fate." Kate looked super excited about this news. Ethan however was less enthusiastic.

"Won't Jackson think it's strange that Kate is in his apartment?"

"Dina told me he's never met the neighbor so if she got caught, she'd only have to explain that she was there to water the plants?"

"And he's expected to believe that it's all a coincidence?"

"It's not that farfetched," Kate said. "When we first met, I said was going home and I was standing outside of the condo at the time."

"And how exactly do you guarantee, Jackson won't press his advantage when you're alone with him in his apartment?"

Kate put her hands on Ethan's crossed arms. "Please, Ethan. I promise I'll be careful. I won't let anything happen. If we can pull this off..."

"Kate even if we do. Fennick is known to be a stickler for the truth. What makes you think he'll print any of this? Since it's you in every photo it would be obvious to him that you fabricated the whole thing. Even if he was interested as you are, to save Calem's job, there's no way..."

"I never expected this to go to print."

"What?" Ethan threw his arms up in the air. "Then what am I doing all this for?"

Kate grabbed his hands in her own. "Don't you get it? The pictures are damning enough. Why do you think Jackson flew all the way back here? Why do you think he's participating in this campaign?"

Ethan shook his head once again he felt lost in the conversation.

"Jackson is obviously in trouble. His agent must have sent him here to reverse the negative publicity he was receiving. Sasha's last article caused Jackson to take a huge hit and his career is most likely on the line. All I have to do is make sure his agent sees the pictures and all the slander against Calem and Evelyn will stop."

"You want to use my photos to blackmail him. Kate, have you lost your mind! That's a crime."

"Your name won't be involved."

Ethan grabbed hold of Evelyn's shoulders, "But it's you in the photographs."

Raphael slowly raised his hand to interject.

"What now?" Ethan asked exasperated.

"Why not give the photographs to the other tabloids? Wouldn't be up to them to verify the truth?"

Kate beamed. "It would."

"And aren't they notoriously known for not bothering to do that. Especially when they are sitting on a very juicy story?"

"Exactly!" Kate said nearly jumping up and down. "Raphael, you're a genius."

Raphael shied at the praise.

"You're both crazy."

"Like a fox," Kate grinned. "Are you in or out?"

"Since I know your determined to do this with or without me, I guess I'm in."

Kate squealed and hugged Ethan.

"The things I'll do for you," he complained.
