Summary: Two CF patients, Nya and Jay, have a moment to themselves, in which one of them meets with an accident. Based on Five Feet Apart.

"Do you...ever wish that you could just disappear. This stupid cancer would go away and...we could be free?" Nya asked. She and Jay were sitting side-by-side on the snow, bundled up in thin coats.

Jay sighed, "Every damn day." He leans back, and Nya stands up, taking steps towards the frozen pond in front of them, "You wanna go skating?"

The brunette sits up, "Hey, I don't think that's such a good idea..."

"Jay, we only live once! For us, our lives are reduced! We should savour a moment like this!" Nya protested, stepping onto the ice cautiously. Jay watched as the girl slowly skated around. The ice seemed sturdy. But Jay had been here before; he knew how deep that pond was, "Nya, please, this isn't safe-"

"Come on, Jay! When are you ever gonna experience something like this?"

Jay thought for a moment. She was right. After this; he'd never be able to get a chance like this. Standing up, he dusted the snow off his chest and approached the pond. Cautiously, he took a few steps in. He was only on the edge, but he felt really unsafe. So, with that, he jumped back onto the snow. Nya on the other hand, glided around without a care in the world, laughing, "You seriously have to try this, Jay!"

"No thanks! I'll watch!" he called out. There was a cracking sound, and Jay looked down.

The ice had cracked.

Nya was on the ice.

The pond was deep.

They both had CF.

"Nya!" he yelled, "Get back!"

The raven, who was on the other side of the pond, noticed, and started making her way back. However, just as she passed the halfway mark, the ice shattered, pulling Nya into the water, which would be freezing.

"Nya!" Without thinking, Jay ran onto the ice, dunking his arms into the big hole, trying to locate Nya. He peered into the frosty waters, before spotting her. Reaching in, he wrapped his arms around her, and pulled her onto the ice. However, that failed, as the ice beneath him started cracking too. Grabbing Nya's still form, he dragged her to the snow, and laid her down.

"Nya? Nya! Nya!" he shook her shoulders, in an attempt to wake her. It didn't work. Her lips were tinged blue, and her skin was pale. She was soaking wet.

Oh gods. Jay knew he couldn't do this, as he'd be putting them both at risk. But he had to try. Leaning down, he pressed his mouth onto hers, transmitting air.

He did it a few more times, and just as he thought it wouldn't work, a torch was shone onto him, and Nya.

"Hey! Over here! I found them!"

Jay could make out the figures of people running towards them. Cole, Lloyd and Kai! An ambulance was parked nearby, as they sprinted towards the boy and the unconscious girl.

"What happened?" Kai asked.

"S-She was skating on the ice, I kept telling her not to and the ice broke-"

"We need to get her to the hospital, now. You too, Jay," Lloyd ordered, picking Nya up bridal style. Jay attempted to stand up, but the cold wasn't making it any easier. "We got you, bud," Cole assured, as he and Kai helped him to the ambulance, "Lloyd! Take Nya in your car! Jay can't walk! 6 feet apart!"

"On it!" he yelled back, running towards a green pickup truck. Opening it, he placed Nya inside, before getting into the drivers seat. Not caring about the speed limit at all, he raced to the hospital.

He'd already lost his father, and his cousin. He refused to lose his best friend too.

They arrived at the hospital at the same time as the ambulance. Wasting no time, Lloyd grabbed Nya and ran in.

"We got them! They have hypothermia!" 

Nurses and doctors rushed out, and placed the girl on the bed. The double doors burst open and Kai and Cole ran in, holding Jay. Like Nya, he was also placed in a bed. They were rushed to the emergency ward, where doctors were prepping for a surgery.

"Faith, do we wait for the sickness to fade off?"

Faith looked at the girl, "There's no time. We have to do it now."

As Nya regained consciousness, an oxygen mask was placed on her. She looked around, too see Kai and Lloyd hovering over her, along with several surgeons. Craning her head, she saw Jay on the other medical bed next to her, Cole beside him, and tried to rip the mask off.

"Nya, no!" Kai grabbed her thrashing arms. Nya sobbed as she shook her head.

"I can't leave him!"

"Nya, please! You need the surgery!" Lloyd begged, but it was no use. Jay looked over at the raven.

"Nya,"

Still weeping, the girl looked over at the brunette, who had tears pricking in his eyes, "Take the lungs. Do the surgery. Please."

"I can't leave you, Jay! I love you!" she cried.

"Do it for me, Nya. Please,"

Not giving her a time to answer, the doctors placed the mask back on, ushering Kai, Lloyd and Cole out of the room. Faith went to check on Jay, "How are you doing?"

"I'm sorry!"

"It's not your fault, Jay,"

"That's not it. I had to give her CPR." The doctor gasped, and looked over at Nya.

"We'll figure something out," she assures him.

"Promise?"

"Absolutely,"

"Doctor Faith? Are the meds working? O-On me?"

Faith looked at the boy, on the verge of tears, "I'm sorry, Jay."

"Great. All this for what?"

"Jay...I'm sorry we weren't able to do more-"

"It's not your fault," Jay said, giving her a miserable smile. Faith wiped her eyes.

"It wasn't my call. The doctors made their decision. You're getting transferred on Monday,"

Salty tears poured down Jay's cheeks, "Promise me one thing. W-Will you tell Nya that I love her? I won't be able to since..."

Faith gently took Jay's cold hands, "I promise, Jay."

"I promise."
