NAME: Beverly Carey "Bev"

AGE: 21

GENDER: Female

SEXUALITY: Lesbian, but very much hiding it

FACE CLAIM: Billie Piper

TIME AND PLACE: 1740's Virginia

PERSONALITY: Beverly is a lighthearted young woman. She's easily amused and like to keep the mood light and carefree. She's rather bouncy, which is unusual for someone her age, and seems to be consistently cheerful. Bev doesn't like sadness or anger, and does what she can to avoid those feelings. She's sweet, kind, and loves to make friends. However, Bev does take the time to calm herself, and has been known to sit on the rocks over the beach and stare at the waves for hours on end. She's always felt called to the ocean, and only the fact of her gender has stopped her from running away to become a sailor. Beverly is one to crave the wind at her back and adventure before her, though she also loves the piece and calm that comes from evenings home with her family. Beverly is a kind, energetic woman, and though she can be incredibly impulsive and oftentimes needy, most who meet her like her.

BACKSTORY: Beverly is the youngest child of Finley and Una Carey, Irish immigrants to the colonies who settled in a coastal town in Virginia. Her father made his living in the shipyards, and has worked his way up over the years to harbormaster, while Una is an excellent seamstress and makes clothes for many in the town. Bev has five older siblings: Maureen, Ryan, Teague, William, and Bree. Only Bree and Beverly still live with their parents, though Bree will marry soon and leave them. As the baby of the family, Bev was given a great deal of freedom growing up. She ran rather wild through town, playing with the boys her age and getting into trouble. However, by the time Beverly was eight and her oldest sister Maureen had married, her mother began paying more attention to the youngest Carey. While Bev resisted her mother's rules and teachings at first, eventually she began to get used to them, and even came to like mending clothes and cooking. When Beverly was fourteen, her brother William died of a fever and Bev nearly followed him in death—she was sick for months, and doesn't really recall any of it. She did recover, though she missed William dearly, and has always been a little frail since. Though she's eligible, and knows many would have her, Beverly hasn't yet married—she keeps putting it off, hoping she won't have to. She's afraid to admit that she doesn't want to wed a man at all, that she finds women attractive, as that, she fears, would surely cause her death.

LIKES/DISLIKES/FEARS: Beverly likes the ocean, blue, sewing, baking, gardening, singing, spending time with her family, her nieces and nephews, daydreaming, and cake. She doesn't like rain, being cooped up indoors for hours at a time, the idea of marriage, cooking, cleaning, the idea of having children of her own, or dark colors. She fears being trapped in a loveless marriage, being found out as being attracted to women, drowning, and battle.

SONGS: Take Me to Church by Hozier, Green Roses by We Are the Empty, Beltane by Sowulo, Let Us Burn by Within Temptation.

ADDITIONAL: She's seriously considered disguising herself as a man and becoming a sailor, but decided she'd miss her family too much. Her family means a great deal to Beverly; they're very close-knit and loving. She knows how to read a little, but not as much as a university-educated man.
