Trenton

Kathryn, Nathaniel and I were running through the forest at full speed towards a plume of smoke in the sky. Earlier, I had established a telepathic connection between Serena and me, and she told us to rendezvous at the burning dump. I told her that we were on our way. We finally arrived after running for over an hour. We sat down, exhausted, and I told Serena that we were here. After waiting another half hour, I saw their group in the distance. I was filled with such joy and elation that I jumped off the ground, and, despite my weary legs, sprinted at them. Kylie saw me and started running towards me. We met in the middle and we embraced each other. She buried her head in my shoulder and I could feel tears.

“I thought you were dead,” she whispered.

“I told you I would be fine,” I reply softly, stroking her hair comfortingly. “When haven’t I been fine?” Serena and the rest of the group caught up with Kylie and I, and we finally separated. I turn to Serena and hug her too.

“Thank you,” I whisper.

“Anytime,” she replies. “So much for Maryland.”

“Yeah, well things kinda fell apart.” We separate and I guide them back to where Kathryn and Nathaniel were waiting.

“Hey. What's up guys?” Nathaniel asked.

“Who’s this guy?” Dawson asks. I introduce them and they get acquainted with each other. Eric, Dawson, and Nathaniel stand off to the side in their own little group talking about who knows what. Kathryn and Kylie are talking to each other. Nick looks downcast, and I could sense that something was wrong.

“Is Jordan…?” I ask Serena telepathically. She nods dejectedly and I see a tear fall down her cheek.

“So what’s the plan?” I ask Serena aloud. Before she responds, Nathaniel steps forward. He looks a bit anxious.

“I have a confessions to make.” Everyone looks at him suspiciously. “I know you guys are looking for notes. I clearly have not mastered my power yet. I was taking a walk through the dump earlier and I saw a scrap of parchment on the ground. Well I didn’t think anything of it. Later on my walk, I was fooling around with my powers, and they kinda went out of control. It started small, but I guess it grew into this.” He gestured towards the large burning dump.

“Wait, hold up,” I say. “So you’re telling me there’s a note in there?!” He nods shamefacedly. We all turn towards the dump. A chain-link fence surrounds it. I couldn’t see the other side, so it must be pretty big. I step forward and walk towards the large burning dump.
