Trenton

"Trenton?! Trenton, please answer me!! Please just say something. You can't be dead." I hear a voice. It sounds faint, but it’s definitely real. Everything’s black right now. The ground beneath me is soft and springy, and I guess it’s stone. I’m laying on my back, and I try opening my eyes. They slowly open, and I’m looking at the ceiling. It’s a cavernous room, and I try to sit up. All around me is a light haze. I stand to my feet and stumble. The ground is springy and slightly damp, making it hard to stay on my feet. My scraped up knees have started bleeding again, so I pull out my shirt and clean them up. I tear two strips off the shirt and tie them around my knees. I check out the room. It’s a large room, with a dome-shaped roof about 150-feet high. It’s a circular room, almost like an arena. My head was pounding, and I massaged my temples. The stone was a dark gray, and the room was dank. White ivy was running up and down the sides of the wall, and some was sticking on the ceiling. I heard a grating sounds, and I jumped and looked around. A small door in the wall opened up. It was a one-foot square and there was a tunnel behind it. I stumbled over to it and peered inside. I heard a faint skitter skitter but I didn’t see anything. I walked back to the center of the room. I started testing the ground and I found I could bounce. I started jumping all around the room. It felt like a giant trampoline. I hit a slick spot and fell to my back, heaving. I heard another grating sound and looked at the wall opposite to the hole. A section of the wall had spun around revealing a wall lined with a shield, spear, sword, and knife. I walked over to it and examined the weapons. I picked up the shield. Lightweight, but it seemed durable enough. The sword was evenly balanced. I was just picking up the spear when I heard a voice.

"Hey Trenton, I don't even know if you could hear me, but here I go anyways. From the first day we met, we were great friends. It was like we've known each other our entire lives. We gradually became closer, then one day we became inseparable. I was so glad you found Kylie. She was so perfect for you. These past years have been great and nothing is going to be the same without you. Trenton, you were my best friend. You were always so kind, funny, and always made my day.  I don't know what I'm going to do without you. I already miss you so much. I promise I will keep Kylie safe. Nothing will lay a finger on her. It's my job to protect our group now. You did... your part. I love you. Like… like a brother. I-I'm so sorry... you had... to go. I’ll miss y-you." It was Serena. When she had finished, I heard her sobbing, then the connection severed. Tears had formed in my eyes, and I tried to respond, but my power to respond suddenly wasn’t working. It was probably the pyramid. I picked up the spear off the ground where I had dropped it. It was a staff with a long metal bit at the end that sharpened into a wicked point. The knife was about eight inches long with a simple black leather hilt. I slipped the knife in my pocket, grabbed the sword and shield, then lay the spear on the ground. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I wanted to be prepared. I guessed that this place was an arena, and I was a contestant.
