The four animals ran into the night, racing through the woods just beyond the field surrounding the circus and the city. At the back of the pack lagging behind after his earlier burst of speed and energy, Snowball called out, "We're not being chased anymore! The wolves are gone!"

"Thank goodness!" Gidget proclaimed. She flopped over onto her side, exhausted from running. The guys felt the same way and took a seat wherever they liked. "Snowball, we'll have to head back soon. Our owners are going to miss us," Max pointed out in between pants. The rabbit gave the Jack Russell terrier a thumbs up. Turning to his girlfriend, Max murmured, "I'll see you around Gidget, okay?"

"I'll make sure to visit," Gidget promised, giving her boyfriend a lick on the cheek. Doing the same to her, Max helped Snowball onto his back and began to walk back towards the city, making sure to take a different path to avoid the wolves. Waving goodbye to them, Gidget called, "Be safe! I love you Max!"

"I love you too Gidget!" Max howled. In the distance, Gidget could hear Snowball talking and then some bickering between the two friends followed soon after. Smiling to herself, the fluffy white dog remarked, "They're so funny together." She turned to the fourth member of the rescue mission while saying that. Tiberius, however, did not reply, frozen up. Concerned, Gidget asked, "Are you okay?"

"Thank you Gidget," Tiberius finally spoke in a hushed voice, "If it hadn't been for you, I would never have made it here." Shrugging her shoulders, Gidget replied modestly, "Oh it was nothing. Just helping out my friends." Looking back at the griffin, she was shocked to discover that he was up and walking away. "Hey!" the fluffy white dog yipped, "Where are you going?"

"We were too late Gidget," Tiberius rasped. Glancing over his shoulder, the griffin continued, "Norman's gone, we couldn't save him. The mission is over." Looking away again, he whispered, "And I'm going home." The griffin managed to walk a few more steps before Gidget shouted, "STOP!" Thankfully for the small dog, he obeyed the command, and so she spoke.

"Please don't go away, please," Gidget begged. She knew it was pathetic but she couldn't help it. She didn't want to be alone. Trotting up to the griffin, she looked Tiberius in the eye as she continued, "I know I suffer from short term memory loss but I also know nobody has ever stuck with me for so long. You make me feel better about myself and I swear I remember things better when I'm with you Tiberius. See, I remembered your name!"

"Gidget, I'm sorry. But I need some alone time," Tiberius rasped. He walked around Gidget. Trembling with fear and anxiety, the fluffy white dog whimpered, "Okay, I can understand that. But please, take me with you! You feel like family to me. I'm at home when I'm with you and that's why I am remembering so much better with you. Please, I don't want to keep on forgetting."

"I'm sorry Gidget," Tiberius choked out, tears brimming in his eyes as he kept walking away, "But I need to forget." Watching the griffin move along, Gidget could feel tears in her eyes as she came to the horrible realization that she was all on her own.
