Amanda's POV

"I-I-What? For what?" I stutter.

"Shoplifting. This man tells that your boyfriend told him in confidentialoty that you told him not to report you for stealing a pair of sunglasses," the officer states, putting handcuffs around my wrists.

"What? I would never!" I protest.

I glare at Alex in shock, angry.

"Alex, how could you?" I say.

"Excuse me, officer, may I speak to her in private?" Alex asks.

"Of course!" the officer says.

He walks away, my arms stuck behind my back.

"Alex, what is wrong with you? You know I didn't steal any sunglasses!" I say.

"I know," he says, holding up a pair, "I did," he puts them in my purse and hands it back to me.

"Why?" I say tearfully.

He says, "Revenge! I am Ava's friend, not yours!"

He turns to the officer. "I believe the glasses are in her purse. Good-bye, Amanda," he says, then walks out of the resteraunt.

The officer grabs my purse, then leads me outside. He shoves me into the car, and starts driving.

When we get to the police station, he tells me I have one phone call. I already know who I will call.

"My sister. But...can I please be alone? This will be hard. She is the only person who understands me," I say, making things up as I go.

The officer uncuffs me and walks away, leaving a phone there. I dial Fox's number quickly.

"Fox? Look, Alex is coming. He framed me! I've been arrested, don't let him in the house!"

"What?" came Fox's voice.

"He is working with Ava! He is after the family!" I say.

Fox says, "I have this under control." Then she hangs up.

The officer comes back and puts me in a cell.

Fox's POV

I run and gather up all the siblings.

"Hey, everyone, we are going to the barn!" I say.

"The playhouse barn?" Stella asks hopefully.

"No. The falling-down barn," I say.

We all run out there. We have been in there plenty of times, because it is actually sturdy. It is sort of sturdy, but looks very unstable on the outside. We all climb the ladder to the hayloft, helping the small children up the ladder. I go in last, after Alyssa. Mom and Dad are at the store.

"Everyone, stay quiet. Even if someone is coming, stay quiet!" I say.

We all hide in barrels and behind piles of hay and straw. I take out my phone and text the older kids what is going on. I look through a small hole in the wall next to me. Alex is coming up the path.

"Everyone stay quiet!" I hiss, clutching Rose and Avery's hands.

Alex knocks on the door. When nobody responds, he starts going through the barns. At one point, he disappears through the door to this barn. We all stay quieter than we have ever been before. Suddenly, his head pops up from the ladder.
