The Lady of the Sea;

Oh, how she holds the key—-

The embrace of the waters oh so soothing—-

The waves ever moving.

Onto the shore does the water seep—-

The frightened man paling in the presence of the deep.

Evin held their breath as the group approached. Dammit, their mind cursed.

It was a group of men, chatting in their fancy overcoats. They were bound to cause trouble. Evin was sure of that fact, almost certainly.

Evin looked around for some sort of escape. They had several poor experiences with men making uncomfortable comments towards them with ill intent. Evin knew that not every man acted a fool like that—-but to Evin, it was better safe than sorry, it seemed.

Evin's brown eyes continued to scan along the winding pathways and buildings for direction to head in—-their heart rate only picking up more once they heard the footsteps getting closer and closer with every passing moment.

There was no time to waste—-Evin would have to act fast if they wanted to avoid any sort of interaction.

There, they thought, seeing a path towards the sea.

The path was a rough one, filled with a less than stable ground and several large, somewhat slippery rocks; it was less than ideal for Evin, but it would have to do.

Evin swiftly headed down that way, carving through the bushes, gaze trained upon the sea far out in front of them.

When they didn't hear the footfalls anymore, they stopped.

Evin slowly exhaled, breathing a sigh of relief. "Thank the gods," they murmured. "That could've gone poorly far too easily."

Evin slowly let their body relax, feeling a sense of ease wash over them—--but unfortunately for them, the feeling didn't last very long.

Soon enough those dreaded footfalls picked up once more—--at first, Evin didn't even hear them.

Evin reached down to pick up a small rock on the shore they saw to examine it, just for the hell of it.

"Would you look at that beautiful, glorious view?" One man began as the group came up from behind.

Evin felt their heart drop into the pit of their stomach as they swallowed and stood up, straight, rock still in hand. They planned to use the rock as a weapon—-a projectile—-if need be.

"Oh, madame! Why stand up so strictly like that?" Another man began. "We were enjoying the view... As you well know," he purred the last part.

Evin bit the inside of their mouth as well as their tongue to avoid saying something they might regret. They slowly turned to face the group of three men.

"Oh, by God!" The third man exclaimed, amused. "It's the MacFadyen girl! We really struck a pot of gold tonight, lads."

"Well aren't you just a sight for sore eyes~" the first one mused. "Care to join us, my dear?" He offered his hand out to Evin with a haunting, devious glint in both his eyes and smile. "...lest you end up drowned by the sea."

"I'd rather die by the ocean's hands than take yours," Evin snarled.

The first one's brows furrowed. "Oh, a feisty one then. We're bound to make an offer you'd never pass up."

"I'd doubt it," Evin replied, mind filling with unease. "I best be going." They turned away, trying to head off quickly, only to be met with someone grabbing their arm, pulling them back.

The Lady of the Sea;

Souls taken in are plenty—-

Legions of hers for several nautical miles—-

Though her grin is so sickeningly vile.

Fanged and armed to the brim—-

Far away must the stranded swim.
