_______

Quinn had gotten relitivally more reliable when it came to things she had to do inside the compound. She knew her schedule, and she stuck to it. It was something she had to do, for whatever ounce of sanity she had left. Coin had relieved her of her duties for propos. She had only been in one since she was released and it was just simply to let the a Districts know that the victors really were free. They just left out the part about how unstable they were.

If people in the compound struggled to look at them without feeling bad, or would talk about how dangerous it would be to have them still in the field-- it probably wouldn't have been good if the rebels all felt the same way about them. However, after everything that had happened, simply following a schedule was the most boring thing she had done for three years. It was always the same, Command made sure it always was.

Breakfast as seven in the morning with the Samuals, and most refugees from Twelve. Then basic training at eight-thirty with Agathias and Caedenn Rakennen. Then at ten-thirty, she had a brief Command check in until eleven when she would go to work in the house keeping department in the hospital until two in the afternoon when she'd go to a late lunch. Then she'd go back to work with Caeden until four-thirty. Then she would be able to go for a short venture on the ground with Dylan and Quinten until five. She'd then join Coleman and Isabella before returning to her compartment for the night-- but sometimes she'd end up staying in the cafeteria late so she could sit with Johanna, Finnick and Annie, Gale, and Katniss.

But despite the strict schedule she had, and as bored as she got with it at times-- she couldn't help but appreciate it. It gave her time to actually think about things besides the games, besides Snow-- she just got to think. About normal things. Like what she and Dylan might catch while above the compound, what kind of story Caeden might tell her on their way to house keeping, what kind of song Athennia might want to sing to her at breakfast-- normal, every day things.

But of course, today-- it was changed. The one day that it was changed had been planned. She had known that today would be the day she'd be staying in training longer with Agathias because it was the day people either moved up or stayed back. A few days after Quinn had been released, Command announced that soldiers would be getting split up into either the general military or different squads.

Finn Benson and Jules were still in command of First Response. Boggs and Jackson were in command of Squad 451-- better known as the Star Squad-- which was basically made up of people Coin wanted to surround Katniss. Then Quinten Samuals was second in command of Squad 450-- the squad that would go in after the first all clear from First Response or go in to help so the odds of the Star Squad getting hit hard during a propo were more slim. When Quinn had first realized that Quinten had gotten the position, she wasn't exactly happy about it. She had lost Otto because of squads, and she wasn't exactly happy about Quinten putting himself in that position too.

So everyone from basic training was standing in the usual line, waiting for the squad leaders to read off the names of those that were chosen. Quinn wasn't sure what she hoped for, she could see herself wanting to be part of a squad-- part of a team they were taking strides to take down Snow and the Capitol. But at the same time, she liked just slipping by with her schedule. She liked not being looked at like a rebel, liked feeling like the orphan in District Four who was passed by and only had to talk to people she liked.

"Attention everyone, attention,"

Everyone who wasn't watching the squad leaders carefully quieted down and turned their attention towards their instructor. Quinn never paid attention long enough to know his name, because all they called him while in basic was Sir. That was all he'd answer to actually. He was an older man, born and raised in Thirteen. His father had been one of the rebels during the dark days and one of the members of the first Command in Thirteen.

"Please give your full attention, and if you have been named please leave basic with your new Squad leader." he explained simply and then took a step back and Boggs was the first to step forward. Quinn felt a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. If there was any squad she ended up on, it was going to be Star Squad.

"There's only one of you that we need," he stated, his eyes grazing the line of people. "Agathias Balios," he said and Agathias gave Quinn a slight nudge as if to wish her luck for the next Squads. He had wanted to be in a squad, and he knew that she didn't really want to be in one.

Quinn let out a long sighed of relief through her nostrils as Boggs took a step back to join Jackson. Then the first in command of the 450 stepped up and named off a few people who Quinn hadn't actually met but had seen during basic. Then finally, Benson stepped up looked down at a small piece of paper to read off.

"For First Response, we need Jakob Lancaster and Quinn Maverick."

Quinn felt like she was going to choke. Her stomach felt like it was going to leap right out of her throat. The last squad she wanted to be a part of was the First Response squad. There was no reason for her to even be in it, she was unstable and should have just been kept in Thirteen. The instructor then dismissed those who had been called, and Quinn slowly made her way towards Finn Benson and Jules Haymenn. Jakob Lancaster was a man from Twelve, he had pale skin and pale brown hair from spending days in the coal mines.

"First Response is meeting in Command in thirty minutes," Finn Benson stated, "Don't be late, we'll be discussing our first mission."

"Don't we have a say if we join the squad?" Quinn asked, before she was able to even ask herself if that was something she should have said out loud.

Finn looked down at her, an eyebrow raised sharply. He waiting a moment as if he was waiting to see if she was just joking. "Everyone here has to play their part, Maverick." he stated, "And follow orders."
