Lisa's P.O.V.

A burning hatred shot through my body as my eyes fell on Rat Man. He was surrounded by Wicked security guards. I scanned them quickly, counting seven, meaning we still had the advantage.

'Strange place to hide out when everything's about to come down!' Rat Man called out over the rumble of another explosion. Pieces of metal fell from the ceiling, clattering to the ground.

'You know what's here!' Thomas shouted back. 'It's too late, we're already going!'

Rat Man pulled out a long knife and almost as if it was a cue the guards pulled out their weapons as well. 'But we can salvage a few,' he said, 'and it looks like we have the strongest and brightest right here in front of us. Even our Final Candidate no less! The one we need most yet refuses to cooperate!'

We had spread out in a line between the crowd behind us and the guards before us as we searched the floor for anything we might be able to use as a weapon. My eyes fell on a large piece of a wood with a jagged edge. Quickly I reached for it, holding it tightly in my hand as my eyes went back to the guards before us.

'I've never seen such a menaching bunch of thugs! I have to admit I'm terrified!' Rat Man yelled, his mouth drawn in an animal like snarl, one I immediately recognised. He had the Flare. It all made sense now. Why he was so determinted to find a cure and willing to go to the most extreme methods to do so.

'Just shut your mouth and get it over with!' Minho shouted back at him.

Rat Man focused his cold, mad gaze upon us. 'Gladly,' he said then yelled. 'Go!' The guards ran forwards, their battle cries drowned out by the explosives that shook the building around us.

We charged forwards, running into each other like an ancient army. I raised the piece of wood above my head, slamming it into the shoulder of a guard closest to me. The man screamed in pain as blood gushed out of the wound. He reached out with his other arm and pushed me backwards. I stumbled on my feet, losing my balance as the building shook once again and I landed on my butt. The guard raised his leg, ready to kick me but I quickly rolled out of the way. He came after me, sitting down on top of me, pinning his legs around my torse as he raised his fists. Blow after blow rained down on me.

A scream left my lips as adrenline rushed through me. I refused to die here, like this, by a man who worked for a cooperation I had been trying to bring down my entire life.

I managed to bring my arms up to my face, covering myself as the man kept on punching me. With a yell of pure effort I rolled my body on my side. Surprising the guard and causing him to lose his balance, slamming the man his head against the floor. His eyes rolled in their sockets, he probably suffered from a concussion. I reached for the piece of wood I had dropped earlier as my conversation with Carter echoed through my head.

"Would you kill someone for the mission?"

"Yes"

I screamed as I brought my makeshit weapon down, the jagged edge piercing the man his head as blood streamed out of the wound. His body jerked as I watched the life drain out of him. With shaking hands I let go of the wood as I stared at his body. A hand landed on my shoulder and I turned quickly, my eyes falling on Carter.

His hair was a mess and drops of blood painted his cheek red. He gave me a curt nod before helping me stand and I gave him a grateful smile. My eyes scanned the room for my friends and widened when I spotted Minho. A guard was right on top of him, punching him in his face as he was desperatly trying to shield himself from the blows.

I was about to run forwards when I noticed Dawn. She was standing on a stack of boxes, her bow raised and the arrow drawn. She released it, the sharp weapon whizzing through the air, finding its target as it landed into the guard its back, making the man scream out in pain as he fell backwards.

A smile appeared on my face but faded when my eyes spotted Rat Man sneaking up behind Dawn as she raised her bow once again. I opened my mouth, a horrified scream leaving my lips but it was too late.

My heart was beating impossibly fast in my chest as I watched him raise the knife, slamming it down into her back before pulling it out and pushing it back in again. Her eyes were wide, the bow dropping from her hands, her mouth open as if she wanted to scream but no sound left her lips. Her legs gave out and she fell down the stack, her body tumbling down on the floor.

My throat was raw as I suddenly realised I was still screaming. I rushed forwards, my body slamming into Rat Man as we fell on the ground, rolling while fighting to get on top of each other. Tears streamed down my cheeks, blurring my view as I trashed around, kicking him, hitting him everywhere I could. I screamed as I held unto him. Rage surged through my body, my hands found his throat and I squeezed. Anger was blinding me as I pressed his airway shut. His body trashed under me but I didn't stop. Rat Man's eyes bulged out of their sockets, his tongue hanging from his mouth as his face turned purple.

Minho's face appeared before me, he was yelling something but I couldn't hear it as my hands kept on squeezing my father his neck. 'He's dead!' Minho's voice finally reached my ears. 'Lisa, he's dead!'

An icy fear suddenly spread through my stomach as I let go of him. My father. I blinked quickly as I watched his lifeless body on the ground before me. I looked up at Minho. 'My eyes?' I questioned, my voice trailing off as my heartbeat echoed through my head.

Minho gave a shake of his head, a trembling breath escaped my lips but I felt no relief as an iron fist seemed to be squeezing my heart. It felt as if I was dreaming when I stood up and turned away from Rat Man's body, walking over to where Dawn was lying on the ground. Falling on my knees next to her I took her shoulder, turning her so her head was in my lap.

Her eyes were wide as she gasped for air, her entire body was shaking as she reached for my hand, taking it tightly in her own.

Minho knelt down next to me, his hand on my shoulder but even his presence wasn't enough to calm me down.

My heart was aching inside of me, my throat hurting from the loud sobs that escaped me as tears streamed down my cheeks. I was shaking my head as if denying it would make it less real. As if that would keep her alive somehow...

'I-i-it's o-okay,' she stuttered, blood coloring her lips a bright red as one drop left the corner of her mouth, leaving a red trail as it crawled down her chin.

I kept on shaking my head. 'No, no, no, no, no.' The words left my mouth in trembled whispers as my chest tightened painfully.

'T-thomas and I, we r-ran int-to N-Newt,' she kept on suttering and I felt Minho tense up next to me as her body was shaking in my arms. 'H-he begge-ed us to k-kill him. T-Thomas di-id.' A pained cry left her mouth as a tear rolled down the corner of her eye.

I rocked her body back and forth as her words barely seemed to reach me. I was gasping for air between the sobs that left my lips as a tear fell down my cheek, all the way to my chin, dripping down and leaving a wet circle on Dawn her shoulder.

'I-I'm going t-to see him-m now,' she mumbled, the words barely audible as she started coughing violently. More blood came out of her mouth, coloring her chin a bright red.

'No!' I cried out, clutching her body as the building shook around us once again.

'I-it's ok-kay,' she repeated softly, her hand letting go of mine as she reached up. The tips of her fingers were cold against my cheek as suddenly her body stopped shaking, her hand dropping as all the life left her eyes.

'Dawn?' Her name left my mouth in a scream. 'No! No, no, no, no, no!' I kept on shaking her body, the building trembling around me once again as a huge part of ceiling fell down, shattering to the ground into a milion pieces.

'We have to go!' Minho screamed in my ear but I ignored him as I kept on shaking my sister's body, tears rolling down my cheeks like never ending waterfalls.

Minho groaned as he stood up, carefully scooping Dawn her body in his arms, pulling her away from me.

Pain teared through my stomach as I forced myself to stand up as well. I stumbled after him as we made our way through the storage room. I noticed Brenda watching Dawn's lifeless body in Minho his arms with wide eyes as she stood next to the shimmering Flat Trans. Thomas and Teresa were right behind us, yelling for us to keep moving, but their voices were dull sounds in the back of my mind as my eyes were focused on my sister.

Minho stepped through the Flat Trans, taking her out of sight. I abruptly stopped walking, staring at the screen before me, suddenly remined of the Flat Trans Dawn and I had gone through to find the others in the Scorch. A hand touched my arm and through my tears I noticed Brenda standing next to me. She smiled sadly at me before pushing me forwards and together we stepped through the Flat Trans.

The coldness of the screen enveloped me as my heart beated painfully in my chest, mockingly remindering me I was alive while she wasn't...

Excuse me while I go cry in a corner...

For the longest time I doubted if this truly was what I wanted to do with Dawn's character and then I realised yes. This is the only way her story was ever going to end. And not just because living without Newt made her cold. It's because she deserved a hero's ending and this was the only way she was ever going to find peace.

I'm so sorry for doing this, please don't come at me with pitchforks and torches...

I hope I didn't make you cry, actually I do because wow that means I could actually write. Anyway, please leave your opinions about this tragic chapter in the comments and give this chapter a vote. If not for me, then for Dawn. LET'S VOTE FOR DAWN.

I love you all to bits for sticking with me for this long, only two chapters to go.

xXx
