Jeremy pov

Mike thought about what to do. I wasn't exactly sure what to do about this situation either.

I've never been this close to a human before. I've rarely even seen them. But Mike seems really nice. Are all humans as nice as him?

"M-Mike, a-are all h-humans a-as n-nice as y-you?" I asked, being curious about the answer.

"Well um, not all of them, but I like to think that most have good intentions..." He replied, looking around the shore.

Not all humans are good... Although I suppose that makes sense. Not all mermaids are good either. My father isn't very good at all.

Mike pov

I've come up with an idea. It's pretty stupid, but it just might work.

"Alright Jeremy, for this to work, you have to act like you're hurt. We need for people to believe you're actually human..." I explained.

He nodded and looked around. I went and grabbed a towel from my car.

This better work...

"Sorry if this hurts Jere..." I said softly, wrapping the towel around his tail.

He let out a soft hiss of discomfort. I apologized softly as I made sure his tail wouldn't be visible.

"Just hang on, okay?"

"O-Okay..." He replied quietly as I picked him up bridal style.

I carried him from the rocks towards my car, praying that no one would notice. Of course since I didn't want to be noticed, Scott ran over.

"Oh my god Mike, what happened?!" He yelled, obviously referring to Jeremy.

"I found him near the rocks. I'm just gonna take him to the hospital." I replied, hoping Scott would believe me.

"Do we need to call an ambulance?" He asked, a worried tone in his voice.

"It'll be quicker for me to take him." I said.

Scott nodded as I ran up the rest of the sand. I put Jeremy in the passenger seat of my car and sighed.

"Well that worked, surprisingly." I said, buckling my seatbelt.

"T-Thank y-you, b-but w-where are we g-going?" He asked, looking out the window as I drove.

Everything we passed seemed to surprise him more. Of course he has every right to be. If I was seeing all this for the first time I'd be pretty surprised too.

"Well, I was gonna take you back to my apartment..." I replied.

"A-Ap-partm-ment?" He asked.

"My house. It's in a building with a lot others like it." I explained.

We reached my building and I looked around the parking lot. There wasn't anyone around right now, which was good.

I got him out and walked up the stairs rather quickly, to avoid the risk of anyone seeing.

It was easy to trick Scott, but that was at the beach. It would be much harder to trick someone in my apartment building.

I took him inside and sighed. He looked around and smiled.

Well, I suppose there's only one place to actually put him for now...

I took him to the bathroom and set him on the counter while I turned on the water in the bathtub.

"T-Thank y-you for d-doing this M-Mike..."

"It's no problem Jere." I said, picking him up.

I was a little surprised when he hugged me, kind of tight. I hugged back and set him in the water.

I have a mermaid in my bathtub...
