'Kavi-Kavita.'

She shifted hearing his meek voice and felt his wriggling fingers in her palm. She moved her head from the bed and looked up. Kabir was calling her name while staring at the ceiling.

'Kabir, Kabir, what happened?' Kavita panicked and patted his cheek. He began moving and clenched her palm tightly. He began gasping for breath and she panicked even more. With her free hand, she pressed the red alarm button next to the bed. Tears began pooling her eyes and her heart rate began to accelerate.

Soon, Doctors hurried. They began checking on him while he kept clenching Kavita's palm tightly. As the doctors frantically tried to bring his breathing and heart-rate to normal, Kavita felt his grip loosen. After a moment, his hand slipped from her hold and fell lifelessly on the bed.

'Ahh!' Kavita yelped covering her mouth with both her palms. She looked at Kabir, his eyes were blank now and stared into oblivion. A silent teardrop escaped from the corner of his eye.

Tears fell of their own accord as she realized that her husband was no more. She fell beside the bed and the nurse hurried to her.

'Kabir.' Kavita cried holding his lifeless hand.

The whistle from the pressure cooker brought Kavita back to reality. She blinked and looked down. She noted the milk was about to spill over and quickly, she switched off the stove.

'Arey, beta is tea ready?' Her father's voice floated from the living room. Kavita quickly wiped her tears and turned her head.

'Ji, Papa. In a minute.' She called back and held the handle of the tea sauce pan. She poured tea into the cup and placed it on a tray. She turned around and left the kitchen.

Mr. Kayshab sat on the double sofa, reading a newspaper. Naren was beside him and sadly flipping through pages of his coloring book. He had a sad pout on his face and tears in his eyes.

'Papa.'

Mr. Kayshab looked up. Kavita smiled at him. He felt bad looking at her dressed in a simple pastel white saree, with no make-up, no jewelry, and no Sindoor. He smiled sadly at her.

She forwarded him the tray and he picked up the teacup. She called a butler and he came quickly, she handed him the tray. Then, her gaze fell on Naren and she smiled. She adjusted the Pallu of her saree and walked to him.

'Beta.' She called softly. Slowly, he looked up at her. She opened her arms gesturing him to come to her. He pouted looking away. Kavita smiled shaking her head. He gasped as she picked him up in her arms. He kept glaring at her until she kissed his cheek. Quickly, Naren hugged his mother and hid his face in the crook of her neck.

'Aww.' Mr. Kayshab commented. Kavita smiled and took her seat beside her father on the single sofa. She adjusted Naren on her lap. Looking closely at him, she couldn't help but notice how similar he looked to Kabir. She smiled sadly and looked back at her father.

'Papa.' She said, and he looked up from his tea-cup. She shifted.

'I thought about what you said, last night.' – Mr. Kayshab looked attentively at her, - 'and I have decided I am going to take over the business.' She informed, and a bright smile appeared on her father's face.

'I will go through the files and inspect the office before joining, it might take a week at least.' She said. Mr. Kayshab looked proudly at her. He extended his hand and patted her head. Kavita smiled little.
