I sat down with Haley and spoke with her about why she was here. She told me that she too had earned enough credits, and the school told her that on her first day after summer break. Her parents found out and kicked her out so that "they didn't have to deal with her." She moved here a month ago and got an apartment here, but decided to surprise me on my birthday. She saw me with Pete and Patrick about a week ago and practically hunted them down to find me, and set this whole thing up. And nobody said a word.

"Wow." is all I said. She laughed as I stood up to walk over to Patrick. It was about two now and all the boys except Patrick, Frank and Gerard had left. My mom gets off at two fifteen, so we're just kinda sitting around waiting for her to come home. I sat down next to him and laid my head on his lap. He smiled down at me and started to stroke my head gently. I smiled and closed my eyes, trying to get in the slightest amount of sleep before my mother got home. Patrick kept stroking my hair and I kept letting him. I felt him move and lean over me. I moved my head back to face him and looked into his eyes. He was only about five inches away from my face. I smiled widely and pulled his head down, connecting his lips to mine.

He moved his lips slowly against mine, and I did the same to him. I could feel him smiling into the kiss, so I couldn't help but do the same. I pulled him into me more and deepened the kiss. I pulled away and looked at him for a second, before closing my eyes and leaning my forehead against his. We sat there for a few minutes before I jolted to the sound of the front door slamming shut.

"Happy birthday Luce!" my mother shouted from the hallway. I pushed Patrick off of me and sat attempted to sit up, failing and ending up falling back into his lap. He laughed at me and looked towards my mother. I looked up to see my mom staring at us with a grin on her face.

"Did I miss anything?" she asked us. I looked over to Gerard and Frank and blushed, remembering that they were there throughout mine and Patrick's make-out session just a few minutes ago. They were both smirking and looking at my mom. I looked up at Patrick and sat up, blushing even more when I saw my mom looking at us intently. Patrick stood up and walked up to my mom.

"Actually, Mrs. Jacobson, that' what I wanted to talk to you about." He grabbed her arm and took her to the kitchen. I sighed and dropped my head into my hands. I heard Frank chuckle slightly and felt two people sit down on either side of me. I dropped my hands and looked at Gerard, who was on my left. He grinned at me.

"Hey, it's alright, we don't mind." he laughed. I rolled my eyes.

"We made out right in front of you and you don't mind?" I asked. I leaned back into the couch and sighed again. "Plus I'm concerned about what he's telling my mom."

"It's not that obvious?" Frank asked. I looked over to him and shook my head. They both laughed. Frank started to tell me but Gerard cut him off.

"Let her figure it out." just then my mom and Patrick walked back into the room. Gerard moved and sat next to Frank, so Patrick sat next to me. I smiled at him ad looked at my mom, who was also grinning. Then Haley walked.

"Hey Angela." She said to my mom. She turned around to face Haley.

"Hey Haley. How- wait... What are you doing here?" She turned to look at me. I grinned.

"Long story. Tell you later." She shook my head.

"Wow, I did miss quite a lot."

---------------------------------------------

"Thanks for coming over, you three." I told Haley, Gerard and Frank as they walked out the door. They waved me off, so I closed the door and turned around to find the clock. It was eight twenty-four

"Luce?" my mom shouted from the kitchen. "I'm going to bed. Patrick, you can stay if you want, but remember-"

"On the couch, Mrs. Jacobson." Patrick nodded. She grinned at him as she walked around the corner.

"Exactly. And Patrick, please. Call me Angela." she said as she walked up the stairs. I walked over to Patrick and wrapped him into a hug. He smiled and hugged me back. Sighing, I pulled back and headed to the living room.

"Luce, come here." Patrick sighed from behind me. I turned to face him and folded my arms.

"Why?" I teased. He smirked and sighed, walking to me. I put my arms out to wrap my into a hug, but he grabbed my face and pulled me into a kiss instead. I obliged and kissed him back. After about two minutes of kissing, he pulled away and looked into my eyes. I tried to catch my breath, but looked back into his eyes. He grinned and led me to the living room. I sat down on the couch gently, and motioned for him to join me. He sat next to me and sighed.

"Luce..." he groaned. I smiled and looked up at him. He smiled back softly, before continuing. "I have to ask you something..." My heart skipped a beat. This is what he was going to talk to my mom about.

"Will you go out with me Lucinda Jacobson?" He asked me. I scrunched up my nose.

"Yes Patrick, but please don't call me Lucinda ever again." He laughed, relieved.

"Why? I think it's a pretty name." He smiled. I shook my head. I hated my first name. More than anything.

"Well, deal with it. Because if I'm your boyfriend I get to call you what a want to." he winked at me. I blushed and laid my head into his lap again. I looked up at him. His long, dirty blonde hair. His red and white trucker hat. His hazel eyes. His kind, polite personality.

"Um, Luce?" I snapped out of my thinking and laughed. Patrick was staring down at me, trying to get my attention, while I sat there staring into space. He laughed along with me. I blushed deeply as he brushed my thick bangs out of my face. I blushed deeply as he brushed my thick bangs out of my face, revealing my eyes. He smiled down at me and studied my face. We sat there for a few minutes, simply looking into each other's eyes.

"Luce, how long have you liked me?" Patrick suddenly asked. I shook my head at him, not knowing what he meant. "Well, Pete and Mikey have been telling me for the past two weeks to ask you out because they 'could tell you had feelings for me'" he put the last part in air quotes, but immediately put his hands back down to rest on my forehead and stomach. I sighed and smiled.

"I'm not sure, but the past week and a half have been crazy, and I've finally realized it I guess." I replied. He chuckled and nodded in agreement. We sat there like that for about an hour before I decided to go to sleep. I didn't want to leave Patrick down here, so I just took the other couch and slept down here with him. Patrick yawned and I laughed at him as he kissed my forehead and walked to his couch.

"Goodnight Patrick."

---------------------------------

I heard the front door slam shut and woke to a start. Rubbing my eyes, I sat up, trying not to fall off of the couch. Patrick was looking for his glasses, so it must have woke him up too. I looked towards the front door to see my stupid little brother trudging into the room slowly.

"Well thanks for being there for my birthday." I put my hands on my hips as I stood up. I knew he was going to a party, but I didn't know he was going to be out this late. I was eighteen now so I could boss him around. That thought made me laugh, despite myself.

"Hey Shawn, how are you?" Patrick asked from behind me. he looked up at us and smiled goofily

"Happy birthday Luceeeee" he said sluggishly. I rolled my eyes.

"Don't try and act cute to make me forgive you. You know I'm excited to be an adult and you were going out and about doing god knows what." I sat back down on the couch. I looked up at Patrick. He had a worried look on his face and was staring at Shawn. Shawn glared back at him.

"Whatchu staring at bitch?" I gasped at my brother.

"Shawn Paul Jacobson, watch your la-" Patrick stopped me.

"He didn't mean it." he looked at me.I looked down and shook my head. Shawn never acted like this, and he was never, ever gone for my birthday. It was strangely familiar... A little too familiar...

*Flashback*

"Angela, what's the matter honey?" Nate, my mom's boyfriend asked. I curled up against the couch, trying to shield mine and Shawn's ears from my mom's yelling and screaming towards Nate. Nate had a funny smell on him, and he was acting strange...

"Nate, babe, stop it Just stop." Mommy pleaded. I peeked over the couch to see him pushing er against the wall, and he had a weird, evil look on his face. He laughed at mommy.

"Wow, Angela! You figured something out." he looked her in the eyes. "Now stop talking or I will punch you, you stupid bitch." He growled. I looked down at Shawn. His cute little two-year-old face. He giggled up at me and I tried again to shield his ears from the yelling. I heard mom struggle.

"Nate, baby let's just get some water and talk this out. You're just t-" something stopped her from talking and I heard something fall to the floor. Being curious, I peeked over the couch again to see my mom laying on the ground, not awake. I smiled. She must have fell asleep. Nate turned to face me with that same evil look. He smiled at me and put a finger up to his lips.

"Shhh..." he whispered before walking out the door. I nodded my head and walked towards mommy. She was still asleep, so I decided I would take Shawn to his bed. I took him upstairs and tucked him into his little bed. He smiled at me.

"Ny-nite Lucy!" he giggled. I smiled back at him and tip-toed back into where mommy was, but she wasn't there. I heard the sink start and walked into the kitchen. Mommy was filling up water at the kitchen sink.

"Mommy?" I asked. She jumped and turned around. I smiled up at her and she put her hand on her chest, smiling.

"Hey Lucinda, why don't you get into bed?" she asked. I looked up at her and out my arms out for a hug. She bent down and picked me up, hugging me tightly.

"Lucinda, remember that smell that Nate had on him?" she asked while still hugging me. I nodded and heard her sigh. "Remember that smell, and if you ever smell something like that again, let me know. It's dangerous."

*end of flashback*

I looked up at Patrick in realization. Shawn was acting strange, just like Nate did. He was being rude, just like Nate was. I looked over to Nate who was looking rapidly around the room. Where did this come from? Why did he do this?

"Shawn?" I asked. He looked up at me and smiled. I shook my head at him before continuing. "How much have you had to drink tonight?"
