His Parents

Mr. and Mrs. Daniels walked through the front door. They came into the living room, each looking like they were returning from a hard day's work.

Mr. Daniels was a tall man with black hair and circular, Harry-Potter-like glasses. His hair was also starting to  gray from olf age. He had a briefcase, and looked as  if returning from an office of some sort.

Mrs. Daniels was blonde, and she had the prettiest ringlets in at the bottom of her hair. She walked in with many folders; some marked 'Spiritual Council' and others marked 'Payroll'.

I felt like I had seen her before, somewhere, but I just couldn't place my finger on it.

"Hey, Lucas" Mr. Daniels greeted him.

"Who's this?" Mrs. Daniels inquired once she spotted me next to him. Mr. Daniels didn't reply, he just gave Lucas a congratulatory high five for bringing home a girl. Mrs. Daniels smacked him in the gut, and I giggled quietly to myself.

"Well?" Mrs. Daniels demanded of her son.

"This is Gwen. We have a project due on Monday, So I invited her over for the weekend so that we could work on it," Lucas explained casually while gesturing to the duffle bag beside me. But me spending the night at a boy's house? Definitely not something normal.

"Why didn't you call to warn me?" Mrs. Daniels asked sounded agitated. So, she wasn't worried that there was going to be a girl here that she hadn't met yet, but was mad because she was mad that she didn't get any forth warning. I smiled at the irony of it.

"Sorry. It was last minute thinking on my part too," Lucas defended.

"Well, it would've been nice to get a call the moment you found out it was going to happed. Or maybe while she was asking her parents. Even if it was only a slight chance." she was clearly mad at hiim. She must've had problems with dinner, or wondering about how her family would react to having an outsider with us. It sounded like many of the problems that I faced whenever there was another pack passing through. But, that didn't change the fact that the comment about my parents hurt. It hurt every time they were brought up, even though I was very young when I lost them.

"Actually, my parents died a long time ago," I managed to pipe up. I was so quiet I was surprised when Mrs. Daniels heard me.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, dear," Mrs. Daniels addressed me in a softer tone. She walked over to me and wrapped a comforting arm around my shoulders. You can add my dead parents to the list of things nobody added at school knew about me, and you could tell by Lucas' reaction, He gave me a look of questioning, stunned by this information he had never known.

"I'm the one who should be apologizing, I didn't mean to cause any problems," I apologized softly, as I had been taught to do in these situations.

"Oh no, you're fine sweetie. We would've liked a little warning from out son, but everything is quite alright," Mrs. Daniels told me with a sweet smile on her face.

"Hey, we should get to work," Lucas said, trying to excuse us from the conversation.

"Okay," I agreed. He left the room and went upstairs, leaving me to follow blindly after him.
