It has been six days since I was told to sort out the thousands of books in the library. I'm not even done with half the room yet.

I take out a couple of books and carry them to the table where I have made neat piles of books according to their alphabets. The cover of the first book says 'a guide for gardening.' I place it in the G pile. Then the next to books go in the B pile.

I look up at the clock which says 5 minutes past five. SHOOT! I'm late for lunch again. I jump over the piles of books and run out the door. I skip the last three stairs and rush into the kitchen only a few seconds before Helen comes in. I take my tray from the chef and sit at one of the long tables.

The rule is that whoever comes to the kitchen before their head does, gets their lunch and the others don't. At my table all of the maids who work with me are there except one. The one who missing's name is Annabelle. She is the youngest of all the people who work here.

I have eaten half my lamb stew when she hurries in and gets a good scolding from Helen before she comes and sits down empty handed. I cut my bread in half and pick up one slice. The rest of the tray I silently slide towards Anna.

"I shouldn't." she says silently, pushing the tray back towards me.

"The rule says nothing about not sharing." I tell her and push the tray back towards her. This time she doesn't push it back but starts eating.

"Thank You. I owe you one." she says softly.

"You're welcome." I reply smiling.

Once lunch hour is over. I hand over my tray back to the chef who gave it to me. Anna keeps me company for the half the way to the library.

"I have to clean the chandeliers today. You're lucky you know. You have to sort out books that's all. I have to get covered in dust." she says laughing.

"You have no idea how tiring it can get. I mean, carrying books, reading their names and having to reach shelves that are practically unreachable. Yeah that sounds fun doesn't it?" I reply laughing at how stupid my argument seemed.

Annabelle leaves me to go into one of the rooms where she must be cleaning. I trudge up the last flight of stairs and walk over the landing to the library. I go in the already open door and the scene that awaits me makes my mouth hang open.

Ashley and William are there. They are tangled up in each other and in a position that others shouldn't see them in. I hurriedly try to turn around but in doing so I knock ove a pile of books. When I turn back around. William has sprung up from the couch his face red and Ashley is giving me the death glare.

"I...I'm....I'm sorry." I stutter.

"You don't have the courtesy to knock, do you?" Ashley demands like the prefect diva.

"The door was already open and besides that I've been assigned work in this room." I explain.

"Whatever." Ashley says.

"Look Ashley why don't you go home?" William suggests.

"No! Either you fire this girl or you get a new girlfriend." She screams and runs out the door. William following her.

I let the words sink in. I get back to work. The entire time till I finish for the day one thought keeps bugging me,

"There is no way that William will choose you over her."

What do you think?
