Morgan's POV:

"It is okay."

"No, it's not."

We bicker back and forth until her cousin Nicole teases us, "You sound like an old married couple."

To my surprise, Lucy does not correct her. Nor do I.

" Lucy, you know something?"

"No, what?"

"I am glad you were my first kiss."

I see her eyes widen in surprise.

"I am glad you were my first kiss, too, Morgan."

"Frank didn't kiss you?"

I watch as she shakes her head.

"It was one of the reasons he left me."

"He was a fool to let you go."

I see her cover her face in shame.

I reach up and gently remove her hands from her lovely eyes.

"Lucy, what am I to you?"

I was afraid of the answer, would she accept me?

How could she?

"Morgan, I need you to promise never to leave me. No matter what comes our way."

I blink my eyes twice. I am confused. What could this woman mean?

"I will not, I promise. But, what am I to you?"

"Am I a friend you can confide in and give occasional kisses? Do I mean more to you than anyone else? "

Lucy stands there with one hand on her hip, the other she places on my shoulder.

I stand firm, unable to move. It seems as if time had stopped for us.

         "M-Morgan, I am not sure. I am sorry."

          "I never meant to lead you on or anything."

           I  feel her lean close to me. Her sobs press against my chest as I hold her.

           I cannot tell her I love her. She is not ready yet.

          I  do not say a word as I try to comfort her.

          "Lucy, tell him you love him."

           I frown.

           I knew Nicole meant well, but sometimes, I wished she would shut up.

          I felt Lucy tremble in my arms.

          Suddenly, she pulls away.

            Lucy grabs my hand. I hold onto it tight.

           Neither of us says a word. I  won a strawberry pie after I took a try at the strong man booth.

             "For you, m'lady."
