Fueled by rage for the loss of his mother, Robb agrees to join his rescuer and their minor pack in a war against a legion of vampires and rogues.

As he grows into the world of fantastical beasts, Robb discovers the reason why werewolves and vampires are in bloody war.

Compelled to put an end to the carnage and to be reunited with his mother, Robb sets out to find the most ancient, magical item that everyone is fighting for:

The Moon Crown.

EXCERPT

Will waved his hand dismissively. "You'll have enough proof when she comes back. She's always thirsty, thirsty for what runs through you now."

He looked at me. "Blood and life." He muttered. "The very aspects of humanity... she will tear it from you, use you as prey. You are but another fly in the spider's web."

I stared at him, and suddenly his calm composure led me to believe he was telling the truth.

"Come, sit in front of me." Will motioned.

Hesitantly, I sat only a few feet away from him and looked at him.

"How do you kill a vampire?" Will asked. "With a stake? Maybe rip it's heart out? Burn it alive? But then, there are other ways." Will smiled, his grey eyes shining. "Why not... with a different power? Like the power of the moon?"

I stared at him, bewildered. "Can vampires be killed?"

Will laughed. His voice echoed in the empty cave. "Why not? They aren't exactly invincible. All it takes is a little courage... and a cursed power."

"Like what?" I asked, surprised at his calmness at the absurd topic.

"The power given by the moon." Will repeated, and his eyes were suddenly cold and stony. "The power which can only be taken with a price. The power to make one more than human and yet, less than one."

"You're losing me," I added helpfully. "Start talking sense."

Will leaned forward. His mouth was pressed into a hard line. His wavy brown hair fell over his face. He leaned over my shoulder and then when his mouth was next to my ear, he whispered, "The power of inhuman strength. Of eternal youth. The power with a curse. The power... of werewolves."
