->Matt's POV<-

I'm an idiot. I thought it was smart to try changing into a bat in the dining room and bring my plate out like that. I didn't expect it to be as heavy as it was. I had dropped it almost instantly. It crashed on the floor, frightening me. I was now hanging from the light fixture, wings wrapped tightly around my trembling body. They'll stake me for sure...

Edd and Tom ran into the room, looking around frantically. Don't see me please...

"Matt? Where are you?!" Edd's voice was twinged with fear and worry, not anger like I expected. Some of my shaking subsided, and I relaxed slightly.

"He's up there..." I heard Tom say, annoyed. I clenched my eyes shut, beginning to shake again. Dammit.

"Matt? Come down from there!" Edd pleaded, and I contemplated actually coming down. If I did, they would either stab me with a wooden stake (which now that I think about it, there didn't seem to be any of those in the general vicinity) or actually ask me what exactly what I did and scold me like a child. Both those options didn't please me.

Sighing, I came down from my makeshift perch and returned to my more human-like appearance. I braced myself for what I was about to get. What I didn't expect was what Edd said next.

"Are you ok Matt?"

I stared at Edd with my red eyes, confused. When I nodded, he let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god. I was afraid that you hurt yourself," he said, giving me a small smile.

I don't understand... He thought he was going to get a punishment, but it looks like he was wrong.

Tom, however, was glaring at me, his dead sockets almost threatening. I edged away from him a bit.

"What happened, Matt?" He asked, the scowl not leaving his face.

I began to sweat. I've never talked to anyone. I didn't even know what my voice sounded like. I could understand, yes, but I didn't talk.

Tom's glare became more piercing as I failed to answer. "We want an answer, not just you refusing to talk to us. Aren't we your friends." Dammit, he had me there.

"Can you talk, Matt?" Edd asked, and I shook my head no.

"You can't? You don't remember how to speak?" Tom asked, now more questioning.

I shrugged. I guess that I couldn't? But I don't know what they meant by remember.

Edd thought a moment, then jogged back into the hallway. He came back a moment later with something made of purple plastic. It had a handle and a large round part on one end. It looked familiar, but I never saw it in my life.

"Matt, this was yours. Do you want it?" Edd asked, and I nodded slowly.

Taking it in my hand, I turned it over, and saw everything behind me.

Behind me...
