"That's heavy. You must be wiggin' out. I know I would be," the driver said after Harrodean and Teerkedas told him the pertinent, more humanly logical details of their unfortunate situation on the main road.

"We're glad to be alive," Teerkedas said to the driver whom he and Harrodean had hitched a ride. His jawline clenched amid his reply. He stifled his pangs of impending death with a grimace to steady a modicum of calmness.

"Are you here in Colorfed for the auction? I try to come every year. It's bitchin' and some of what they're selling is really choice stuff. You both should check it out."

"No, we're here because my kid brother split and is with my cousin doing who knows what," Harrodean said with a furrowed brow.

"He'll come back after he's had a groovy time with his cousin," the driver shrugged. He stopped the car to let Harrodean and Teerkedas out. Harrodean bristled at the driver's care-free comment staring at his spectral form. Her lower lip stiffened, and she shook her head.

The driver drove away vanishing into the ether of the hereafter leaving no trace of ever being on the road.

They stood in front of the hospital. Teerkedas hesitated. "Unless the doctors are witch doctors, it won't do me any good." Teerkedas swallowed hard, glancing up at the building. His skin turned cerulean and he was having somewhat of a difficulty maintaining his solid shape.

"We can go to the auction. There might be at least one or two witch doctors there that can help you."

She took him by the hand and quickly withdrew. His hand was so cold she had gotten a little frostbitten from the touch. She looked at her hand and rubbed it to gain back the circulation.

"I should've told you what I was from the beginning, Harrodean. I'm sorry."

"Don't bum me out. Everything's cool. If you don't end up dead, you owe me a burger and fries at the passion pit and I get to pick the flick we see. I'll pick a chick flick even though I like horror and action flicks better, just on principle so I can see you squirm."

"Solid. It's a date."

"Not a date, a promise."

"I'll fight harder to keep it."

"I know. Let's shag ass before these Colorfed townspeople see you changing color."
