Parconis (Draconis vellus)

Parconis are rather small creatures that look like something of mix between an article fox and a dragon, that was then covered in some random color of paint. They're rather small creatures, around the size of a house cat. They have large ears and adults have long legs and elegant builds. Their fur is very soft and feels almost like downy feathers. Their snouts are rounded, and are quite wide for adults, babies have much shorter, narrower snouts. They can be any range of colors, and have very soft patterns that also vary. They never have hard-edged patterns. Most of the time they are also speckled, even rarely being completely speckled instead of their normal, mottled pattern. Their eyes are never both the same color, and are quite beautiful, consisting of all sorts of different shades of one or two colors swirled into one.

Baby Parconis, also know as flufflette, are quite different from the adults. They're around the size of a guinea pig, and look like giant puffballs. They're fur is much longer than an adults, as the long fur deters predators due to them being more like a mouthful of feathers instead of actual food. As a flufflette grows, it will become taller and it's fur will grow shorter, filling in the much more elegant silhouette of the adult. Flufflettes are born in litters of 3-5.

Parconis are a very social animal. They live in large groups usually ranging from 20-50, but can sometimes reach into the hundreds. They usually have a matriarch, an alpha female, who makes most big decisions for her tribe. If the alpha dies, one of her daughters will take her place, normally either the eldest or the strongest one. If the alpha had no daughters, then the rest of of the pack will choose a new one. Males are seen as lower ranks, but aren't treated like they are due to them still contributing to their tribe.

There can be several tribes Of Parconis in one general area, sometimes the tribes will intermingle, animals may switch tribes, they may even join together. Fighting is fairly rare between two tribes, but if one tribe feels that another is taking over their territory they may begin to try and scare them off, and if worse comes to worse, it could end in fighting. Parconis are quite vicious in fights despite their soft-looking appearance. They have very sharp teeth and claws, and their tails are quite strong as well, allowing them to smack any opponents coming from behind.

A tribe of Parconis generally have a set camp where they'll spend a lot of time when they aren't hunting or fending off predators. The camps are normally large, and are made up of complicatedly woven dens made from twigs, bramble and vines. The dens are normally round, and can range from the size of a large dog bed to a small shed. They're very sturdy, and can last through many bad storms before they begin showing any form of damage. The dens are normally filled with nests, usually made from soft moss, feathers, and shed fur, and are often well decorated as well, normally with decorations corresponding to the current season.

Being so fluffy, Parconis prefer cooler climates, like deciduous forests. They're omnivorous, eating a range of foods from acorns and berries to mice and birds. They're very opportunistic, and don't tend to be picky about what they'll eat. They're great climbers, being able to scale trees, a boulders, and even cliffs with ease, and their fur allows for a bit of a parachute if they fall.
