– Prior to her cognitive warping, was a rather skilled gymnast, though not nearly on par with her sister

– After the cognitive warping and assumption of Kasumi's name, inherited her sister's gymnast skills and obtained a scholarship in Shujin Academy that way

– Truly awakened her Persona, Cendrillion, after rebelling against her own cowardly self

– Upon coming to terms with her true self, joined the Phantom Thieves under the codename Violet

– Helped defeat Takuto Maruki

– With Joker's guidance, eventually accepted her true self, and became a far more skilled gymnast than she was before

Kokonoe: The twin daughters of the accomplished director and talk show host, Shinichi Yoshizawa... Kasumi and Sumire have always shared the same passion for gymnastics, training under the same couch and even sharing the same dream of reaching the top of the world together.

Junko: One problem though. while Sumire's skills were by no means bad... Kasumi has always been better. And we all know where this is going.

Kokonoe: Sumire didn't hate her sister, but she was definitely jealous of her, and the thought of never being as good as Kasumi would cause her self-esteem to dwindle. It got to the point where, on her way home after training, she would end up running into ongoing traffic... only for Kasumi to push her out of the way and get run over, sacrificing her life to save her sister.

Junko: What? You thought it would be Sumire who would be the dead family member in this story? Hah!

Ann: It was far from funny. The death of her older sister caused Sumire's already crippling depression to worsen, deepened by survivor's guilt and the idea that she was the one who caused Kasumi's death.

Kokonoe: It got to the point that Sumire outright wanted to be Kasumi and continue her sister's dreams in her stead. A thought that seemed impossible... until one faithful day.

Junko: Introducing Dr.Takuto Maruki, who was going through his own level of bullshit!

Kokonoe: After hearing her story, Maruki sympathized with her and uses his power to make her wish come true. Manipulating her cognition and making her believe she was Kasumi and that Sumire was dead.

Junko: And that's how Sumire became Kasumi Yoshizawa! But her story doesn't end there.

Ann: Despite thinking she was Kasumi, she still couldn't perform at her level. Since she thought she was Kasumi, it didn't affect her too much but it was still taking a toll on her. Luckily she would meet a senpai named Ren Amamiya!

Kokonoe: Ren would help Kasumi regain her confidence. In return, Kasumi would help him learn some acrobatic moves.

Ann: Why does he need to learn this you ask? Because Ren Amamyia is actually a member of the Phantom Thieves! A group of vigilantes that fight against cognitive beings called Shadows and help those who can't fend for themselves. And Ren was the leader known as Joker

Kokonoe: Kasumi eventually learns of this after accidentally stumbling into a palace and unlocking newfound powers from her Persona. However, she would not be an official member of the Phantom Thieves until months later, helping them take on Maruki himself under the codename... Violet.

Ann: Sumire is incredibly strong, capable of going against some powerful Shadows.

Kokonoe: She can be compared to the rest of the Phantom Thieves, who are capable of damaging Palace Rulers, who hold power over different palaces of different sizes and makes. One such palace contained whole galaxies. Sumire, along with the other Phantom Thieves, have also been able to take on Maruki and his Personas, Azathoth and Adam Kadmon. Both of these Persona's hold the power to create an alternate reality and could merge reality with the Metaverse.

Junko: Azathoth's Tyrant Chaos is said to be able to annihilate entire cognitive galaxies and Adam Kadmon is much stronger than that!

Ann: She's even gone toe to toe against Joker, whose Mada Persona can eat a whole universe in a minute. Of course, she can scale to any of the other Phantom Thieves... though as far as intelligence is concerned, we all get our support from Futaba.

Junko: What, this kid?

Kokonoe: Believe it or not, she's older than she looks. She has a Persona of her own that allows her to support the Phantom Thieves safely behind the scenes, including Sumire.

Ann: Yep, she mostly stays somewhere safe to analyze the opponent. She can give feedback on the opponent, letting Sumire know of any potential weaknesses as well as keeping track of enemy locations. She can also use her Persona to tell just how strong her opponent is and give advice on how to handle them. Plus she's an absolute genius when it comes to electronics, once hacking into the broadcast system all over Japan! ... Wait, why are we bringing her up?

Kokonoe: It's to keep things fair. She will be used as a form of support in this match considering her opponent will be granted some similar backup. Nothing too drastic though.

Ann: But I never got Futaba's help on my battle...

Junko: Your opponent didn't have or need her own backup to even things out so it's not like the outcome would have changed regardless.

Ann: Hmph...

Kokonoe: Despite not being as truly elegant as the real Kasumi, Sumire is still capable of above-average gymnastics. This has made her one of the most agile members of the Phantom Thieves next to Ann and Joker.

Ann: Fitting for her Phantom Thief attire.

Junko: The Phantom Thieves' outfits take the form of one's image of rebellion, and reflect the strength of their will to rebel against others' desire to control them. This will of rebellion manifests in the aforementioned outfits, which protect the Phantom Thieves from the effects of Cognitive Distortions. Naturally, the stronger the will, the greater the extent of their resistance to the effects of Cognition.

Kokonoe: According to Morgana, the entire world is a product of Cognition. In other words, what is real is only determined by humanity's perception. It is effectively a form of collective Subjective Reality possessed by humanity. Within the Metaverse, this effect is taken to its extremes, resulting in things such as fake guns becoming real just by someone believing that it is, and said guns being always loaded due to the enemy's logical assumption that a gun being held with hostile intent would naturally be so.

Ann: And thanks to this, Sumire has a pretty good arsenal. Starting with her signature rapiers.

Kokonoe: Sumire has six different rapiers to choose from, including the White Snow Rapier, which has a low chance of freezing her targets. But her strongest blade is the Sword of Sinai II, which has a high chance of making her opponent feel dizzy.

Ann: And like all of us, she has her guns!

Ann: Sumire's weapon of choice is her rifles, which hold up to ten bullets each and refill after each battle.

Kokonoe: Her main rifle is called Winchester, but her strongest one is the Sahasrara EX which increases all of her stats.

Junko: But enough about all that. Her biggest weapon is her powers! She has the ability to summon a Persona!

Kokonoe: A Persona is the physical representation of one's true self. And Sumire's Persona is known as Cendrillion.

Ann: Based on the French adaptation of the classic folktale, Cinderella, which tells the tale of a kind young woman who was abused by her stepmother and stepsisters, but managed to break free of this horrible life with the help of a fairy godmother and a glass slipper. This Persona blocks off bless or light attacks while being weak to curse or darkness attacks.

Junko: And she has a bunch of attacks like the Vorpal Blade... which is a physical attack... that sends a bunch of lasers at you in every direction...

Ann: She also has the Sword Dance, another physical attack that launches swords of light at you.

Junko: You can probably tell, but she mostly uses light as an attack. She has Kouga, where she fires two light blades at you. This time it's actually considered a light-based attack. There's also Kougaon which is a pillar of light unleashing from below. Makouga and Makougaon are the same, only that they target multiple opponents and use more energy.

Kokonoe: Despite this, she can still do things like heal herself, strengthen her Bless attacks by 50%, half the hit rate of all incoming attacks, and increase the chances of landing a critical attack.

Junko: And on top of that she can get an upgrade from Cendrillion to Vanadis!

Kokonoe: Based on Freya, a major Norse goddess who represented love, beauty, and fertility, Vanadis is also her true name, and she is a witchlike master of magic. Just like the previous Persona, she's immune to light attacks and weak to dark.

Ann: This Persona can do everything Cendrillion can do with some additional powers too. For example, she can decrease the power, defenses, speed, and agility of one enemy with Debilitate and increase her own with Heat Riser.

Kokonoe: She can also make a shield that reflects all physical attacks called Tetrakarn. And with Makarakarn she can make a shield that reflects all magical attacks.

Junko: But it doesn't end there. She can fuse both Cendrillion and Vanadis to make her final Persona, Ella!

Kokonoe: Like Cendrillion, Ella is based on Cinderella. In fact, Ella is the real name of Cinderella, with the term "cinder" being added in by her evil sisters after she was covered in cinder while cleaning.

Junko: Just like the other two, she's weak to Bliss and Darkness. But this time she's more resistant to Nuclear attacks and more likely to dodge curse attacks. She can do everything the other Persona can do and also has a new move called Masquerade, which is a severe physical attack that strikes you twice.

Ann: But just because Sumire's got some really good Persona's doesn't mean she's perfect.

Ann: Sumire is probably the least experienced among the Phantom Thieves, and this includes the ones that were brought in during Persona 5 Strikers. She also does have a large yet still finite amount of magical power to choose from.

Junko: Doesn't help that she shares the same strengths and weaknesses as her Persona so anything that hurts her Persona will harm her as well. Especially curse attacks. Though it's not like what you see in JoJo. It's more of a mental thing.

Kokonoe: Yet it is pretty convenient. As it turns out, Sumire's Persona isn't just tied to her, but also to the soul of her late sister... the real Kasumi Yoshizawa.

Ann: So while her time with the Phantom Thieves as a Persona user may have been cut short, she's definitely coming back. And when she does, she'll always have her friends and sister by her side!

Sumire: I hung my head low and took your hand... But I knew all along deep down... Pretending to be Kasumi was not the right way... The weak, insecure Sumire... dies today!
