Katherine ran to the lodging house and climbed up to the roof. I can't believe he would do something like that! Katherine looked at the setting sun. Jack should be almost finished by now. Katherine heard Jack climb up. "What are ya doing here Ace?", he asked. Katherine looked at him, tears forming in her eyes, "You were right. My father was behind everything." She knew he never approved of their relationship, but she never thought he would try to break them apart like that. "What if he tries to break us up again? What are we going to do then?", she asked. Jack wrapped his arms around her. "Don't worry. We'll figure something out if he tries anything again", he said reassuringly. "For sure?", she asked. "For sure", Jack replied.
Weeks passed since Katherine's talk with her father. She was waiting for Jack in his penthouse. He's usually finished selling by now. Where is he? The morning almost a year ago when she was supposed to meet Jack started to replay in her head. No. That is not happening again. Jack is fine nothing happened. Katherine looked over the edge to see if she could see him, but there was no sign of him anywhere. She climbed down the ladder and went inside the lodging house. Only Buttons and Elmer were still up. The looked up when she entered. "Hey Kath", Buttons said, "ain't you supposed ta be with Jack?"
"I haven't seen him actually. I was wondering if you guys have seen him", she answered. Buttons shook his head, while Elmer appeared to be thinking. "He came by here earlier when most of us were still selling papes", Elmer said, "He brought something down from his penthouse and left." Katherine started to feel worry building up, "Do you know where he went?" Elmer shook his head. "Oh", was all she could say. I need to see my father. He might know what happened. Pretty sure he has something to do with it.
