Wakaba was sitting in front of her laptop with her half written essay.

It was a typical tuesday night where Wakaba had a history essay due the next day.

Her playlist, that was currently playing Teardrops On My Guitar, sang out loudly, echoing off the walls off her room while she stared at the window by her study desk in her room.

Her mind wandered off into a parallel universe where somehow, her crush would finally notice her.

She sighed and her eyes drifted back at her essay and she sighed even more.

Her phone vibrated and she more than gladly picked it up. Anything to procrastinate doing her boring essay.

It was from Sota.
'What could Sota want from me?'

Hey, Waka-chan, are you free?

Wakaba's eyes glanced at her essay and she seemed to have a silent arguement in her head before finally deciding that she was 'free', even though she had a paper due and math homework for tomorrow that she still hadn't completed and it was already 10pm.

Anything for you, Sota-kun.

Another voice in her head countered back, why do you even bother? You do so much for him but he never sees you.

That's not true, he's grateful for a friend.

Yeah...we got into another fight. She's upset with me cause I didn't feel in the mood to celebrate her Junior Worlds victory especially after my injury.

When Wakaba saw that first sentence, she couldn't help but silently feel happy that they fought again. Then she felt guilty for being happy about Sota's distress.

Thats non of your faults. She won, she should be happy. You didn't even get to go, you shouln't be happy. Its alright, I'm sure It'll all pass soon. ❤❤

Sota lay on his bed texting Wakaba when he saw her last message.

Uhmm...I'm gonna take that as a friendly type of 'luv you'. I mean, she knows I'm with Marin-chan. Infact she's helping me with my relationship.

So he put his phone down after saying goodnight to her.

Wakaba sigh in relief that Sota didn't make a big deal out if it.

Great now I gotta go do work. Urgh.

Not five minutes into continueing her essay and she already got distracted.
I wonder what it would be like if Sota-kun loved me back?
I mean, Marin-chan doesn't know his story like I do. Gosh the things I do for Sota-kun.

A week later, when Sota came to visit his uncle in Tokyo, in the weekend, he dropped by her house.

Wakaba woke up the next morning and got excited when she heard the door bell ring.

She jumped out of bed and hurriedly washed up then rushed down the stairs.

Sota was standing outside her door in his worn out jeans and Wakaba couldn't help but think.
This is how it ought to be.

As he turned his head to face her, he smiled that endearing smile of his that can light up this whole town.

And Wakaba couldn't stop smiling. He's just too cute.
'Sota-kun, it's so good to see you.'

'Waka-chan, I haven't seen you in a while.'

'I haven't seen your smile in a while. Come on in.'

As he got in, they sat in the living room chatting about the recent events.
'Congrats on Junior World Bronze'

'Thanks. How's your leg healing?'

'Its all good now. I've started doing basic skating just last Friday.'

'That's great. What about...?'

'Uh...its fine.'

'Right, sure....you say you're fine but I know you better than that.'

Sota glanced at Wakaba again.
She stared into his dark eyes and her face showed worry and care of a real best friend.

'Well...Marin-chan hasn't exactly "forgiven" me yet and now she's kinda of giving me the cold shoulder.'

Wakaba's heart just broke for him.
'I'm here for you, okay? I'll be here always if you ever need me.'

She stood up and gave him a warm melting hug. A hug between best friends.

'Thanks for caring.'

'I care much more than you'll ever imagine.'

Japan Open 2016

Sota skated rather well to help earn Team Japan points in his Free Skate. Right after him, Shoma went out and killed it. He brought the crowd down to their feet. But of course it was the combine efforts that made Team Japan win.

Wakaba, who also took part in it, got third in her segment and went straight to Sota to congratulate him.

'Sota-kun, you were fabulous!' She shouted across the screams of fans as she made her way over to him.

But, like usual, she was always second to him. He was walking towards Marin smiling like a boy who's so in love. And her heart sank to somewhere over the rainbow and below her ankles.

Marin glance at him and turned to Shoma and hugged him and congratulated him with her cutess smile.

Sota couldn't believe his eyes.
When I finally do well and give a good performance, she goes to Shoma-kun? What is she trying to do? Make me desperate?

It makes Sota so jealous that he goes over and pulls her off Shoma.
'Marin-chan! Why are you flirting with Shoma-kun?'

Marin dissed him off, 'what, you think you were great?Shoma was the greatest. Go away and continue being second tier.'

Shoma didn't notice and was too busy glancing over at Satoko who seemed overwhelmed with her fans.

Wakaba watched everything in silence and witness it all.
She was so frustrated, she yelled, 'WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH A GIRL LIKE THAT? WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR HAS BEEN HERE THE WHOLE TIME. WHY CAN'T YOU SEE THAT I'M THE ONE WHO UNDERSTANDS YOU, BEEN HERE ALL ALONG SO WHY CAN'T YOU SEE. YOU BELONG WITH ME'. But to her fortune, the cry of the fans covered her voice.

As Sota walked back disappointed and heartbroken and about to cry. Wakaba gave him a hug again and walked him all the way back to the hotel.

'You were great, you know? I love your performance the best.'

'You're just saying that cause you're my best friend.'

'No I'm not. I really like your performance. I always have. It's your skating that cheers me up, even when you fall or stumble or pop.'

He wondered, how is she so nice to me?

'Because I'm your friend and I...uh...I lo...I love supporting you and watching you.'

'Oh I said that outloud. Oops and thanks Waka-chan. You really are the best.'
Literally. Why did I not choose you? You were standing right infront of me all this time and I didn't even see you. I'm an awful person. But you probably don't like me that way anyways.

It was the night of the banquet right after the gala.

Wakaba was about to write out the words she'd been wanting to say for so long.
But she saw that he was offline and turned back to her work.

After finishing her homework she glance at the clock and saw that it might still be not too late to go.

Sota was with Shoma, Rika and Kanako.

They were all being polite and congratulating each other, when the doors open.

Shoma, Rika and Kanako all saw for whom the door opened for and nudged each otehr winking and smiling.

Eventually, Sota caught them.
'What are you all staring at?'

'See for yourself, Sota-kun.' Shoma smirked.

So he whipped his head around and saw the most beautiful thing his eyes ever laid on.

Wakaba was coming through in a long blue and white dress looking as cute as ever.

He was entranced by her.
So she did come.

Just then, Marin came from behind him.
'Hey, Sota-kun, wanna dance?'

Sota glanced at her as if he had forgotten who she was and just continued walking towards Wakaba.

Everyone made way for them.

When they finally stopped infront of each other, Wakaba whispered, 'I'm in love with you.'

'Well that's just perfect because I'm in love with you too, Waka-chan.'

Wakaba thought her ears were malfunctioning.
'You what?'

'I love you.' He blurted out.

'Took you long enough.'

'I know, I'm sorry. How long have you...?'

'Loved you? Uhm, I dont know, forever maybe? Since the first time we met at novice As. And when we became best friends. And when you were with Marin, I thought I could let it go, but I ended up wanting you more.'

'Well you're in luck cause now you have someone who never will let you go.' He smiled at her.

She reciprocated the feeling.

'Dear Higuchi Wakaba-chan, do you want to dance with me tonight and forever?'

'I do'
