author's note: in which a main character breaks it off with a side character

My heart ached with such pain, such agony. His dark eyes showed signs of remorse; however, his eyes didn't help the fact that his cold voice told me with no emotion that she caught his affections. Tears formed in my crystal blue eyes, as my body shook in shock. Drips and drips fell onto the floor, as if I were Alice from Wonderland. But unlike Alice, words flooded my heart. Hands shaking, my voice faltered and let out a weak voice, "Why?"

We stood there for ten seconds. His eyes glimmered in the sunlight. He smiled, "I'm in love with another woman." My tears grew stronger at each moment. His eyes stared into mine. His gentle hands proceeded to stroke my red cheeks, despite my cheeks being stained with tears. I felt his warmth, his compassion, and his love; he couldn't feel my sadness. He couldn't feel the immense regret and pain I had felt.

"Goodbye," he said with a light and warm tone, "Angie." Hearing my name being called, I could feeling my heart aching once more. I nodded, flashing a bittersweet smile. The door closed, and my heart closed with it. My hands reached for the door, as I tried to find the bravery to run after him. My attempts to find this bravery proved to be fruitless. I fell to the floor, sobbing. I touched the cheek he had caressed. For a brief moment, I found his warmth, but it quickly turned to dust.

The sunny morning I thought to be happy gradually turned into a gloomy nightmare. I clutched my heart. I heard the birds chirp in such a lovely tune, as love bit my heart away, piece by piece. I wailfully whispered, "Is this my fault?" Memories flashed back into the back of my head, and I slammed my hand on the wooden floors. More and more tears rushed down. With the remnants of the power I had left, I finally screamed, crying for help. Little did I know there was no help.
