Ａｐｐｅａｒａｎｃｅ

Yureiko is a growing teenage girl with a slight malnourished, but overall decent body. She has a fair complexion along with long brown wavy locks, that she always kept tied in some way, and fitting amber eyes. When she arrived, there were distinctive eyebags from her series of restless cases and increasingly grew darker when she involved herself in the events of Shiki. She also has a silver cross necklace inherited by her former colleague kept under her clothes.

Prior to the events of Shiki, she wore her hair down (which she rarely does during Shiki) and began wearing it up after the murder case of Maeri Wakana.

During the raid on the Ozaki Clinic, she obtained a black eye from getting socked by Tatsumi. It recovered quickly as time passed.

By the end of the series, she recovered from her eyebags and has a scar starting from the end of her right eye almost reaching her ear. She started keeping her hair down again.

Ｐｅｒｓｏｎａｌｉｔｙ

Yureiko got most of her personality traits from her dad, Toshio. Calm-minded, laidback, and intuitive, she's greatly known to the people and patients as her dad's "apprentice" at work. She displays a brave front and acts rationally in the face of danger despite her own fears of dying. Also like her father, she's cunning and logical, coming to conclusions and often thinking outside of the box. She's a detective prodigy and acclaimed heir for her intellect. She's also quick-witted and predictive of certain situations, not all being right, of course. When going through her work, she drops the laidback attitude and becomes serious.

She becomes more assertive about her feelings and putting her loved ones lives before hers as time passed. She's also strong-willed and persistent, showing great leadership and never thinking about herself. Although heartless as pointed out by most at times, she's generally more empathetic than her father. She values what must be done rather than what's right and focuses on getting the job done. There have been times where she seldom lets her emotions take over.

When gaining an upper hand against Megumi upon confrontation, she showed her own devious and uncharacteristic malicious side. These feelings are manifested from her frustrations and anger built up over the course of the series as she didn't hesitate to berate Megumi despite being a Shiki and being stronger than her. When stressed or enraged, her face is blank and monotone.

Yureiko does reveal a sensitive part of her that rarely comes out involving family. Some instances, she becomes uncomfortable when mentioning it but will shrug it off.

Ｐｈｙｓｉｃａｌ / Ｍｅｎｔａｌ Ｃｏｎｄｉｔｉｏｎｓ

Prior to Shiki, Yureiko's physical state was overall healthy and while she had insomnia before hand, it wasn't as serious. Over time, Yureiko's physical and mental health deteriorated a little from the lack of proper sleep and improper eating habits. She suffered through insomnia when working through cases and it grew increasingly worse during the events of Shiki. Her skin became unnaturally pale after getting herself bitten by Natsuno, but she regained her complexion throughout the series.

Through her diary entries, she's explained about having nightmares and reliving scenes, as well as seeing a therapist and getting counselling help from her dad. It's presumed that impacted her with PTSD - known as post-traumatic stress disorder. From the recent entries, she's recovering at a good pace.

Yureiko was born in Mizobe and stayed under watch by Kyoko and Toshio. Living under Kyoko's parents watch, she spent most of her childhood with her parents despite the non-existent feelings between them. She enjoyed her time with them when they weren't busy and tried getting close with them as a family. When she was seven-years-old, she was discovered by Takae and immediately took her to be watched under her wing as the second heir if Toshio ever failed to take it or disappeared.

During the time Yureiko began studying under her grandmother, she spent less time from her parents and grew a longing to be with them, but prioritized her studies when offered to see them again if she finished. It was a false promise when she was offered to study as a detective and sent to Mizobe, living under some family relatives. They'd accompany her in going to the city for her detective license and met fellow senior, Maeri Wakana, whom she grew close to.

It's mentioned how there were times her life was at risk for solving the cases and getting caught up by criminals wanting to "silence" her for good. Years after however. a job went awry when Yureiko learned of her colleague's untimely death at the hands of the perpetrator of Maeri's case in order to keep her quiet. Enraged and in grief, she took it upon herself in solving her case and eventually lead it back to the killer. In a state of distress and fury, she blankly shot him (missing the main organs) without remorse before her other colleagues stepped in. It wasn't until justice was brought upon him that she realized her actions, horrified by what she almost did. 

The government opted to send her back believing it's the stress getting to her and would be good for her if she returned to her family for a break. Before leaving, she was given Maeri's cross necklace as a parting gift and promised to treasure it before eventually leaving for Sotoba. Yureiko arrived seven months before the start of the series.

➺ Her first name, Yuureiko (幽霊子), means "ghost child." Her last name, Ozaki (尾崎), means "tail" (尾) and "cape or peninsula" (崎).

➺ Yureiko's under the impression, and specifications, of being an agnostic theist. She admitted this to Toshio and Seishin when questioned about how she could easily believe god could help. Her reply was, "I'm not even sure if he's real. Maybe that's why I'm trying to believe."

➺ She learned self-defense during her time as a detective.

➺ She often travelled between the city and Mizobe during her job.

➺ Although she's very stoic and collected because of her work, she's indefinitely sensitive to the topic of family seeing as she never felt too close with hers. She even doubted her dad caring about her when he killed Kyoko.

     • She's attained his devious and cunning side as well as his determination to save the village.

     • She does, however, have some of her mom's traits too like her skin complexion and tied her hair up like when her mother did when she was younger.

➺ Although she's the same age as Kaori, she shares her classes with Megumi because she skipped a grade.

➺ It's stated after what transpired in Sotoba, Yureiko started to take counselling suggested by Toshio and began thinking of quitting her job as a detective to aim for the normal teenage life.

     • Yureiko's greatly recovered as her eyebags disappeared when she rode the bus with Kaori and Akira by the end of the series. 

➺ The reason Yureiko returned to Sotoba and stayed with her dad was because of the incident revolving around her close colleague, Maeri Wakana, back in the city.

➺ While cold and heartless, she can also express when hearing/seeing some close to her die. Prime examples being Maeri, Natsuno, Kyoko, Ritsu and Tooru.
