Part 30 — Surprise!

Azyra walked downstairs with the artifact in her pocket. She was scrolling through her contacts for Xin when she saw the strange box on her table. "Zap! When did you get down here?"

"Never! I've been up here with you the entire time!"

"Huh?" Azyra's phone began to ring. "Hello?" Xin asked.

"I have the artifact. Will you be home soon?"

"Yeah, I'm just about there..." Xin waited 30 seconds before opening the door. Looking at Azyra, she said, "Bye," and hung up. "Hey! Where's the artifact?"

"Here," Azyra said, holding out the artifact and looking at the box.

"Ooh! A box! Was it from delivery?"

"I don't know. It just appeared on this table."

"So Zap probably put it there."

"No, he was upstairs the entire time. He's still up there, too."

"Strange..." Xin walked up to the box. "Your name's on it."

"Huh?" Azyra walked over to the box. She saw her name printed. She recognized the handwriting and slapped Xin's arm. "Xin!"

"Huh?"

"How long have you been standing at the door?"

"A few minutes."

"I can't—so that's what the noise was!" She recalled hearing light footsteps while searching for the artifact. Annoyed, she grabbed a knife from the kitchen and started mauling the cardboard box. On the inside was something wrapped in foam. Inside the foam wrapper was a phone. "This was a thousand dollars."

"Yeah?"

"You spent a thousand dollars?"

"No, Zap also gave $500. It was half and half."

"Huh? Why?"

"Well, you lost your phone, remember? The one you have right now is absolute shit, by the way." Azyra looked at her phone and sadly nodded. "Well? That's yours now."

"Why did Zap have to go up with me if he knew about it?"

"You're overthinking it. Don't worry about it. Take the gift."

Zap walked downstairs. "If you don't like it, you owe me 500 dollars—"

"You know what?" Azyra slowly picked up the phone on the table. "I think I like it."

"Great." He walked over to the kitchen. "Settle yourselves. Everything is good now."

Xin faked a smart look. "Is it ever, though?"

"Shut the fuck up. Lunch is coming up." Zap grabbed a pan from the cupboard. "Get ready."
