Part 9 — Patience

"The essay's due tomorrow... and I finished last night. Finally. Well, I should start working again. I'll need to make some money, the way I'm living right now." He walked towards his college, but that wasn't his destination.

No, his destination was a restaurant.

Patience was the name of the restaurant. It's name was given after the manager of the restaurant told a customer to be patient, back when his restaurant was a street vendor. It took a long time to make his food, but in the end, it was delicious, so in the end, the customer would give a positive review. I still love that story. He smiled as he walked into the restaurant. What surprised him was the manager's presence, right at the front of the store. The manager looked at him, then down to the lightning bolt design on his shirt. "Zap. I remember you."

(Assuming that Zap is a normal name)

"Hello. What are you doing at the front of the restaurant?"

The manager chuckled. "Well, I guess you haven't really worked here long, huh? It's our 5 year anniversary here! This store's been open for five entire years!"

"That's nice!" Zap said, interested only because of the story of the name of the restaurant. And for one, he liked the manager as well.

"What's even better, I guess you failed to notice the large banner in the front."

"Huh?" Zap stepped outside. In place of the title was a large banner that said "PATIENCE'S 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!" Heh. I looked at the first word and disregarded the rest of the banned. That's my attention span right there...

"Where's your friend? The one you took a break for?" the manager asked, but not unkindly, Zap could tell. He was just curious, like he himself was.

"Oh, her? Um... she moved out."

"Interesting. Strange things can happen. Anyway, are you looking to work here again or do you want a seat?"

"I'd love to work here again."

"Splendid! We actually just had a few open slots recently, and so you can slip right in! What was your best job again?"

"Waiter." Zap breathed before continuing. "Apparently I have the best conversations with our customers and leave them in better moods than customers served by other waiters."

"And it's not incorrect! Unless you don't like the job?"

"Actually, I love being waiter. I love having conversations with strangers, especially when we agree. It makes me happy."

"Wonderful! I knew you had fit in from the start! Well, welcome back! Grab your stuff and get to work!"
