"Now that we're all settled, I'd like to make an announcement."

Professor Dumbledore stood up on his podium in front of the students that sat in the Great Hall; students whom had just finished demolishing puddings, porridge, pies, and other foods. Every last crumb had vanished off the plates, leaving them sparkling clean.

The chatter among the students died down until all that could be heard was the pounding rain and howling wind. Everyone's attention was focused on the headmaster as he spoke.

"It is my painful duty to inform you all that there will be no inter-house Quidditch Cup taking place this year." The professor states, his twinkling light blue eyes flickered to Quinn Berry - only to meet her discouraged and frustrated expression.

Damian Fontaine also happened to have the same look on his face; he was looking very forward to this years quidditch season. He spent many hours over the summer practicing new tips to improve on his chasing skills - and you best believe all the practicing payed off.

Dumbledore continued after the disappointed murmurs came to a stop. "However, a new event will be starting in October and continuing through the school year - an event i'm sure you all will enjoy immensely."

Damians displeased expression faded ever so slightly at the news; he is rather intrigued by the mention of a new event occurring. Of course, he isn't sure how it would be more enjoyable than quidditch, but he sure would like to know what might be happening at hogwarts this year.

"I have great pleasure in announcing that this year at Hogwarts-" Before the Headmaster could reveal the information, (much to Damions irritation) a deafening rumble of thunder sounded accompanied by the doors to the Great Hall opening with a slam.

A man stood in the middle of the doorway; he held a large staff in his hand and was wearing a black traveling cloak - a cloak that hid his face from the rest of the room.

Every student's attention averted to the mysterious man that had interrupted Dumbledore.

A flash of lightning came about after a few seconds of complete silence; it illuminated the room and gave everyone a better view of the man. He lowered his hood to reveal his face; he had scars along his face and a chunk missing from his nose. Strapped across his face was a magical artificial eye that scanned the room, quickly looking over each individuals face. he shook out his grizzled dark grey hair before taking his wand and pointing it at the ceiling. he muttered something quite bluntly; his spell cleared the sky and put an end towards the indoor storm.

Moments of utter uncomfortable silence presented itself; the whole student body looking extremely shocked over the incident that had just taken place. They all stared at the stranger while he just stared back - his magical eye scanning the room once more. it seemed as if he had enough of this, though, because he made his way down the Great Hall towards Professor Dumbledore. He felt eyes on him as he moved, but didn't acknowledge any of them.

He reached the elder man and the two exchanged a few words that weren't audible to anyone else while Dumbledore shook his hand (which was just as badly scarred as his face).
The stranger walked over to the staff table and sat down in the empty seat, obeying Dumbledore's gesture.

"May I introduce our new Defense Against the Dark Arts Teacher, Professor Moody!" The headmaster said in a bright tone while beginning to clap - hoping the rest of the students would join in.

Nobody besides Victoria Sterling joined in on the applause. The hufflepuff has a sense of respect for everyone and treats people equally so it wasn't surprising that she gave the new teacher a proper greeting.

Damian glanced over at his friend and raised an eyebrow; he wasn't surprised she joined in - he expected it - however thought she would have been able to read the room. But of course, she didn't notice that nobody else had the intention to greet the new professor and were rather distracted andΒ  transfixed by Moody's unusual appearance.

Damian and Victoria are quite the unlikely pair, but they get along quite well and make a great team. It isn't uncommon to find the two in the kitchens at night, sneaking food to take back to their dorms.

the applause coming from Dumbledore and Victoria ended fairly quickly; the echo ringing in the quietness for a few seconds.

All the students could do was stare at Professor Moody - much to his discomfort.

Dumbledore cleared his throat - breaking the silence. "As I was saying..." he said, glancing to Professor Mcgonagall. "Hogwarts has the honor of hosting a very exciting and thrilling event over these upcoming months; an event which has not been held for over a century."

The sea of students began to take their gaze off of Moody and instead place it on Dumbledore; intrigued by this information. The headmaster smiled. "It is my very great pleasure to inform you that the Triwizard Tournament will be taking place at Hogwarts this year."

The students looked at one another and anxious chatter sounded ever so slightly - the tension from Moody's arrival still lingering within the room.

Damian now was fully invested in what the headmaster was saying; the Triwizard Tournament definitely sparked his interest. He ignored the whispering of conversation from his fellow classmates next to him and awaited Dumbledore to go on, pondering about what the tournament might involve.

"You're JOKING !"Β  excitedly yelled out Aiden Williams, a playful Hufflepuff boy. He was known to be the jokester of his house - not to mention the charmer.

Nearly everyone let out a laugh at his comment - earning a proud smile from Aiden. Dumbledore chuckled before responding to the Hufflepuff. "No, Mr Williams, I am not joking." His eyes sparkled as he looked at Aiden in amusement; he's glad someone broke the tension.

"For those of you who do not know," Dumbledore spoke up, "The Triwizard tournament brings together three European schools for a series of magical contests."

Damian internally groaned at the words 'European schools.' he was praying that one of the two other schools were not going to be beauxbatons; the school he used to attend. If the school happened to be joining Hogwarts, he was not looking forward to seeing his old classmates.

Meanwhile, Arthur Locke was rather excited about the idea of other schools participating in the event. The ravenclaw boy was relatively attracted towards the idea of magical contests; he was hoping they would consist of something that his intelligence could be beneficial for. Although soft spoken, Arthur would not hesitate to compete if he had a chance to use his knowledge.

"From each school, a single student will be selected to compete." Dumbledore went on.

Several people searched around the room; looking for a student they thought would be the one selected from
Hogwarts. A particular Gryffindor boy caught Damians eye - Harry Potter. Damian rolled his eyes and scoffed to himself; he had a feeling the Hogwarts participant would be his underclassman, given his reputation for always getting himself into trouble and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

At the Ravenclaw table, Arthur stayed silent. He had a slight hope that it could be him - but only depending on the type of magical contests. He secretly was hoping it could consist of knowledge or something that could spark his creativity. He was the type of boy that finds joy in experimenting with magic and getting his hands dirty - his curiosity occasionally gets the best of him, but it doesn't bother him because of the enjoyment that comes from it.

Dumbledore waited for the students to calm down once more before continuing his speech; "Now let me be clear," His voice shifted to a more serious tone: "If chosen, you stand alone. Believe me when I say these contests are not for the faint-hearted."

The Great Hall stayed silent after these words; no one felt the need to break into conversation. Everyone was a bit nervous after hearing this, realizing the contests might not be as safe and enjoyable as they all believed it to be.

Arthur felt a bit of disappointment at these words; also realizing the tournament would most likely not consist of anything the could use his intelligence for. He knew these would be a lot more physical - because of Dumbledore's description - and he was probably the only student to have guessed that so far.

Dumbledore's tone switched back to his light-hearted expression. "But, more of that later." He gave a reassuring smile to the ocean of students before him, hoping to ease the tension he had just created. "Now, please welcome the lovely ladies and gentleman of the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and their Headmistress Madam Maxime!"

The door to the Great Hall opened once more to reveal rows of girls - and a few boys - dressed in blue uniforms. The girls entered first; they walking delicately down the hall, stopping every here and there to let out a delightful sigh. butterflies flew around them all, giving a magical presence to their entrance. There was something so captivating about them, that people just couldn't take their eyes off of them. It was almost as if some people were in a trance while looking at them; enchanted by their beauty. The boys were behind the girls; accompanying their headmaster down the hall. they were exceptionally proper - not to mention good-looking.

A certain Hufflepuff boy, Sebastian Capone, was extremely mesmerized by the students of the French school, eyeing one girl in particular...

Damian let out a frustrated sigh as he saw his old classmates walk through the doors of the Great Hall. He was not interested in catching up with any of them, let alone interact with any of them either. for a brief - and obvious - moment, his eyes locked with a Beauxbaton girl toward the front, Fluer Delacour. She smiled and winked at him only to get an uncomfortable look in return.

"What was that? Don't you have a boyfriend?" Anastasia Lost - a careless Slytherin girl - questioned Damian suspiciously, obviously noticing the little exchange. she seemed rather disgusted with whatever had just happened.

He turned to look at the girl sitting across from her. "Yes, I do." He raised an eyebrow at his underclassman. "And that? That was eye contact. ever heard of it before?"

Anastasia looked very unamused and crossed her arms. "Mhm, whatever you say, Fontaine." She was not buying it; she sensed the tension between them and knew the two had history and was determined to figure it out. She was concerned for Seamus Finnigans' sake - not because she cares about him or is close to him at all, but because she secretly loves Seamus and Damians relationship and low key ships them so hard.

The Beauxbaton students took their bows while the rest of hogwarts applauded - quite loudly. Sebastian Capone whistled to show his appreciation to the school, sneaking glances to that one girl he had his eyes on. Aiden Williams also whistled, a big grin plastered on his face.

Dumbledore put his hands up - gesturing for everyone to put an end towards their clapping. When everyone went quiet, he spoke up. "And now our friends from the north, please greet the proud sons of Durmstrang and their headmaster Igor Karkaroff!"

Everyone's head turned to the doors of the Great Hall, eagerly waiting to see the next group of students. In walked - or rather strutted - the boys of Durmstrang. they walked quite proudly and intensely, their staffs in hand. plenty of them ran through the hall performing great tricks - much to the amazement of others.

"Kind of hot, don't you think?" Anastasia asked Taylor west with a smirk, elbowing the girl jokingly. Taylor rolled her eyes and smirked the tiniest bit - not agreeing nor disagreeing.

One of the Durmstrang students blew fire from a torch, creating a a phoenix from the fire which flew around the Ravenclaw table.

Alden Wrayburn ducked her head as the Fire Phoenix soared above her. As soon as it passed her, she sat back up - making sure her posture was straight. She flipped her hair off of her shoulder and turned her head to watch where the phoenix was going. "I wouldn't consider that impressive- more like dangerous..." The Ravenclaw girl muttered under her breath, obviously annoyed at how close the fire was to her. She doesn't seem to be mesmerized by the Durmstrang boys as some of her fellow students were.

Back at the entrance to the Great Hall, in walked Igor Karkaroff accompanied by another Durmstrang student by his side.

"ITS VIKTOR KRUM !!!! OH MY GOD !!!" Alaska Jones practically screamed into Ellie Evans' ear, shaking her fellow Gryffindors shoulder in the process. A big grin was plastered on Alaska's face as she watched the Quidditch star walk down the halls of her very school. She could literally reach out and touch him if she had the nerve - but of course, she was too in shock and excitement to even move.

"Yes, Alaska. I see that." Ellie responded to the extremely excited girl. Ellie - in spite of the fact she isn't showing it - was in awe as well. he was in fact one of her favorite quidditch players (what a surprise) and loves the Bulgarian team; she often practices their chasing tactics. She watched Viktor Krum walk down the hall with her eyes star struck. Ellie has always been the type to keep her emotions and feeling under the radar and disguise them with a obnoxiously loud act. She is pretty smart - but for a reason unknown to anyone (even herself) - she plays dumb. This is a rare moment for Ellie; she's never starstruck to the point where she isn't talking much.

After the Durmstrang finished their entrance and the many students in the Great Hall were settled, in walked a group of wizards that placed a large golden statue-like figure next to Dumbledore's podium. Dumbledore walked over and stood next to the figure, putting his arms up to gain everyone attention.

"I'd like to say a few words." He places his hand on the figure, admiring its golden details. "Eternal glory. That's what awaits the student who wins the triwizard tournament." Dumbledore explained, looking out to see the fascinated faces of many students. "To earn this, the student must survive three tasks."

Arthur Locke took note of the word 'survive'. he instantly knew the tournament will not be something he would want to participate in. He felt a bit of disappointment in this; still wishing it was something a little more suitable to him, however still interested and looking forward to watch the tournament.

"3 extremely dangerous tasks" The headmaster continued. He stated these words rather fiercely, as if he's trying to make it very clear this tournament is not a joke.

Arthur understood his intentions very well; he caught on to things fast. However, other students don't exactly realize Dumbledore's objective in his speech, students such as Erik Harrison.

Erik (being the daredevil slytherin he is) was indeed interested in this tournament; loving the idea of eternal glory. No, the slytherin is not cocky - even though perceived that by many of his classmates - he's just proud. He has good intentions even if they come across as arrogant.

"for this reason, the ministry has created a new rule. To explain all this, we have the head of the department of international magical co-operation: Mr. Bartemius Crouch." Dumbledore gestures to a door to his right where a man stood.

This man had a small mustache that rested on his upper lip and had a receding hairline that was a dead giveaway that he was aging - and not aging well. he wore nice dress robes and a maroon tie that gave a hint of color to his dark outfit.

As he walked over and stood in front of the golden figure, River Crouch gave her grandfather a death-glare. her hatred towards this man was brewing - yet she knew better than to act upon it. All she could do was keep her glare fixed on him, hopeful that he would take notice. She's hated her grandfather ever since she's heard about her father's trial and how he was evicted - although innocent - because of what Barty Crouch Sr claimed.

Mad-Eye Moody gave a similar glare towards this man - which River happened to notice. She furrowed her eyebrows at the new professor; confused on to what he could have against her grandfather. She shrugged it off and fixed her glare back onto Barty Crouch Sr.

"After consideration, the ministry has concluded that for their own safety," He paused as an uncertain look etched across his face; he already knew the reactions and comments about to take place. "No student under the age of seventeen should be allowed to put forth their name for the triwizard tournament. This decision is final."

The Great Hall burst into sound; students from all over the room were complaining and yelling up to the man.
("so unfair!" , "you're joking" , "bloody hell!")

Barty rolled his eyes at these comments, refusing to give in and knowing he can't do anything about it.

"You better not be serious!" Aiden Williams hollered in frustration. He too had been hoping to be able to enter; despite his playful and charismatic demeanor, he is incredibly hardworking and he believed that he would have been able to succeed in the tournament - even if everyone else knows he wouldn't be the best participant.

"THATS RUBBISH !!" the weasley twins yelled out angrily.

"yeah... THATS RUBBISH !!"Β  Alaska joined her friends after hearing their complaints. She believed this rule was safe - she knew that fred and george would try and compete so thank god this rule exists, now she wouldn't have to worry about the twins putting their self in danger. however, she did want to agree with the crowd and protest despite her beliefs.

Damian joined in with the majority of students; he was fairly disappointed that he wouldn't be able to participate in this event. He couldn't play quidditch this year, now he can't enter the Triwizard Tournament?

Alden Wrayburn said nothing; the Ravenclaw is pretty bright and knows better than to agree with everyone else. her logic is 'do you really think anyone below the age of seventeen would be able to survive the tournament. yeah, i didn't think so.'

Along with Alden, a Hufflepuff girl shared the same belief. Victoria Sterling stayed quite - not wanting to draw attention to the fact she isn't agreeing with everyone else. Victoria would never want to see one of her friends get hurt, so she's very thankful for this rule. She's especially appreciative of it because - just like Alaska - she knows it will prevent Fred and George from entering themselves in the tournament.

Quinn Berry was hit with a feeling of nervousness; she already knew Cedric Diggory was entering himself into the tournament, no doubt. She knew she had to try and stop him - however hard that might be.

"SILENCE!" Dumbledore cried. Everyone obeyed and the Great Hall fell silent in an instant.

Once everyone had their attention on him, he waved his wand above the golden figure. The cover disappeared at the wave of his wand, revealing a large goblet. Blue flames emerged from the goblet as soon as the golden cover was out of sight. The entire room stared the goblet in awe; eyes widened in admiration.

"The Goblet of Fire." The headmaster states. "Anyone wishing to submit themselves shall write their names upon a piece of parchment and throw in into the flame before this hour in Thursday night." He glanced around the room

Quinn laid her eyes on Cedric, noticing his eager and confident expression. She shifted uncomfortable; not excited to have this talk with him later.

"Do not do this lightly. If chosen, there is no turning back."

Alaska gulped at his words. She definitely wasn't ready for the dangerous tournament that lies ahead.

"As of this moment, the Triwizard Tournament has begun."
