CHAPTER THREE—
a plant war.

"Flip!" Blake encouraged as Ajax reached across the table and flipped the magazine page for her. "Ugh, flip again!"

"What? You don't wanna know about the negativity of wearing real fur?" he leaned over to look down at it more. "Scared the Furs will get you?"

"Have you seen the Furs?" Blake gave him a crazy look. "Almost as scary as....Wednesday?"

"She is kinda scary." he agreed and flipped the page.

"No, look." Blake tried to pat his arm, her hand passing right through and pointing toward Xavier and Wednesday near the archery section. "I bet she's planning on slicing him up."

"Have you talked to her?" Ajax turned his head to give a curious look. "Xavier said she wasn't as scary as they say."

"They've talk before?" this was news to Blake, she was usually always with Xavier and she knew for certain that they hadn't spoken to her. "When?"

"The carnival, I think. That's where he told me." he shrugged his shoulders as Blake frowned her eyebrows. "I figured you'd have talk to her by now. You always talk to the new kids."

"Yeah, but they all get scared of the ghost thing." Blake nodded to encourage him to flip the page again. "I don't think that would scare her so i'm not-"

Blake was cut off as she watched Wednesday toss an apple high up, shooting an arrow through it right on the bullseye. "What'd I tell you? What'd I tell you, Ajax?"

"Where'd you and Ajax go this morning?" Xavier asked Blake as she sat down with him in class,  the bell not ringing quite yet but people beginning to flood in. "I saw the two of you leave before I was even done with archery."

"We had some important business to take care of." Blake held her head a little higher with a nod. "Personal matter."

He turned to give her a look of disbelief. "A personal matter?"

"Mhm." she shrugged, nodding in encouragement for him to put her textbook infront of her. "What were you and Wednesday talking about?"

"Nothing." he shrugged. "She thinks i'm a snob that's life was handed to him on a silver platter."

"Well, Ajax and I just finished up the boat. Nothing personal." Blake shrugged now that he'd told her. "I guess she doesn't think too badly of you, considering she's walking over here."

Xavier frowned his eyebrows, looking back as Wednesday stoped infront of their desk. She avoided eye contact but it was clear there had only been a space right next to the pair of them, Blake cleared her throat. "Empty seat that may or may not have your name on it."

Wednesday frowned her eyebrows, glancing at the seat, then at Blake again. She looked like she was about to say something before Xavier cut her off. "If you can stand sitting that close to an elitist snob."

Blake gasped. "Xavier, how dare you say that about me?"

He gave her a look in the corner of his eye, but was grateful she was trying to uplift his mood. Blake tried to pull the chair back for Wednesday but her hand passed right through it. She was still waiting for a day where she remembered she couldn't grab things, that day never came.

Wednesday sat down and turned her head toward Blake, lifting her hand and allowed her palm to pass straight through her face. Blake blinked as the biggest smile went across Wednesday Addams face. A smile, Blake didn't even know she knew how to smile. Most of the time when people found out Blake was a ghost, they shuttered in fear or avoided her as a whole. But, not Wednesday. She was fascinated with fear and any thing that matched her, and while Blake was her opposite, what she was had been the first thing Wednesday had see herself in since arriving at Nevermore. Blake smiled back, feeling good about the fact that she still had the ability to win everyone over, even Wednesday Addams.

Xavier raising his palm in the corner of her eye had caught Wednesday attention, looking over as he caused his spider drawing to come to life and craw across the table.

"I doubt Wednesday is impressed by your tricks, Mr.Thorpe." Ms.Thornhill spoke up as she eyed the trio sat together.

"Admit it, you're a little impressed." Xavier was looking for some way to win Wednesday over as well, though his lack of creepiness like Blake had wasn't anything Wednesday was interested in. She rose her hand and smacked the spider into dust as the class laughed.

"Wednesday, we're thrilled to have you join us on our journey into the world of carnivores plants." Ms.Thornhill spoke as she circled her desk, Blake let her cold hand sink into Xavier's back as she tried to rub it to make him feel better. "Now, who can tell us the name of this beauty?"

Bianca had raised her hand before she even finished the question, Blake leaned forward more to stare at the plant before the voice next to her cut in. "Dendrophylax lindenii."

"Otherwise known as the ghost orchid." Bianca lowered her hand with a few blinks. Xavier and Blake shared an eyebrow raised look.

"First discovered in the Isle of Wight in 1854." Wednesday went on, getting an impressed look.

"Very good, Wednesday." Ms.Thornhill gushed. "Looks like you may have competition for first chair, Bianca."

Blake tried to flash Bianca a hopeful thumbs up but the cringe on her face said other wise. Xavier leaned forward to block Blake when he realized she didn't know she hadn't been looking at Bianca in the supporting way she thought she'd been.

"Wednesday, perhaps you can identify the ghost orchids greatest qualities." Ms.Thornhill leaned back on her desk, looking at their newest addiction to the classroom.

"Resilience and adaptability." she said back within the first second. "It's able to thrive in even the most hostile environments."

"But it's mere presence can change the ecosystem, causing the establishment plants to reject it." Bianca turned entirely in her seat to stare at Wednesday as she answered.

"Usually because the native species is allowed to thrive unchecked." the Addams girl didn't bother to look at her, rather focused on Ms.Thornhill. "Nothing a Weedwacker couldn't fix."

"You can most certainly try." Bianca mumbled, Blake began to stop letting herself float above her chair and start to sink down.

"Are we still talking about flowers?" Xavier cut in with an annoyed look, double taking when he noticed Blake half way through the floor. "Where are you going?"

"Too much tension, it feels like i'm getting stabbed again." she spoke, tilting her head up when that was all that was left of her, giving him a salute. "Goodbye, handsome man."

"Blake, this is your favorite-" Xavier began, but she was fully sunken down in the floor now, making his sigh loudly. "-class."

"Oh, hi." Blake spoke as she passed into the classroom right below her. "Ajax, nice to see you again."

"Blake." he greeted with a questionable look as the entire class stopped to watch her continue to float downwards.

"Eyes are closed." Blake squeezed her eyes shut tightly as she passed the locker room, making it to Xavier's dorm and flopping on the bed, just at the bell rung. "Grest ghost intuition, Blake."

She leaned on her side and propped herself up on one hand, twisting her body. Within five minutes, Xavier tossed the door open. "I can't believe you left me in there like that."

"I know, i'm the worst." Blake agreed. "I'm trying to make it up to you."

"It's not working, you completely abandoned me." he lectured her, tossing his bag on the ground and yanking the jacket off. "What if I left you in the woods all alone?"

Blake gasped as she sat up. "You wouldn't."

"I would." he threatened her with a point. "Let the furs get you."

"Because I left you in the middle of a plant war?" Blake gave him an insane look. "I was even trying to lay like Rose so you could draw me, but now i'm no longer in the mood. Can't believe you'd leave me to the furs."

"That's what you were doing?" he asked as she tossed her hands up and walked through the wall, making him follow and pull the door open. "Blake, come back! I changed my mind, I wouldn't leave you to the furs!"

"You lost your chance!" she yelled over her shoulder.
