Elpis and its inhabitants have been floating in cryosleep for fifty years. Ever since leaving a dying Earth, on course for a new paradise, the spaceship has been silent, floating in dark space. 

That is, until five kids wake up three years before they're supposed to, and find everyone around them dead. They would love to be able to tell you what happened, but their memories are gone.

Panic is setting in. And so are the monsters.

NIXIE JONES
you'll get very limited information about nixie, since a lot of her info is vital to the mystery of the book, but i tried to give enough to form some basic opinions about her! 

description
Nixie has long black hair, cut in curtain bangs, that soften her features. She is plump, soft-bodied, with round shoulders and hips. Though 5'5, she seems smaller than she is, crouching and hiding from sight. Nixie is pale, with moonshine-white skin, though looks sickly and weak in the spaceship lighting. She has a perpetually haunted look in her black eyes.

personality
Nixie is timid. She is crouching, scared, flinching. She cries a lot. Everything seems to affect Nixie, who's soft heart and gentle spirit give her a lot of grief about the terrors around her. Nixie is the heart, the emotional softness to the group, begging the others to choose the good path, to take the good route. She is passive until the weakest are threatened. When that happens, she becomes something of a fright, ghoulish and ferocious. Nixie fights for the innocents and the victims, but she can't help but scream at the violence before her.

Nixie was put forcibly on Elpis by her father, a rich businessman back on Earth who helped to fund the project. He wanted to protect her from dying on the crumbling home planet, and wanted to send her to someplace where she could live a better, new life. Nixie, who never wanted to go, fought and begged, but had no choice. She was put on the ship, but reluctantly befriended the people there, playing with the children and helping to nurture the goats until cryosleep came. Before crysoleep, Nixie volunteered to become a Mother, someone who looks after the fertilised embryos and helps raise them when they land on the new planet.

WORLDBUILDING INFORMATION

Earth: 

Currently desolate, the entire population has shrank drastically. The world is succumbing to heat strokes, dying crops, shrivelled animals, and drying water sources. Every human has moved to Switzerland, the least affected place, and have crowded together, waiting for the last final blow. 

The people there live by language, creating a miniature globe, dialects and universal languages merging with English and German, creating a new, clobbered-together tongue that most people can generally understand. 

Earth barely scraped enough resources together to create Elpis, the ship on which they send the saviours of humanity. They send them to Olympus, a planet far away, that is even more bountiful, more beautiful, than Earth had ever been. On it they placed genetically modified animals and plants, ones that will be able to sustain entire ecosystems automatically. 

And they sent humans. Fertilised embryos, who will be grown in pods and raised in group homes. Pregnant mothers with their children. Young adults, strong parents. They were picked through DNA, the genetically strongest, smartest, and healthiest people. They were isolated for weeks, to purge any diseases, then loaded up again with antibodies and vaccines. 

And now they are floating in space. 

Olympus: 

The planet of Olympus was discovered by scientist Dr. Amaka Ude, who named it after the legendary home of the gods. It was perfect. Paradise, they called it, and could not have been more sought after. The oceans were lush, the oxygen fresh, and the climate conditions perfect. They sent test pods, they sent explorers, and every single one came back with the same news: it's perfect. 

The people on Elpis are prepared to assume jobs that will support the new civilisation:

Mothers/Fathers, people who raise the children in group homes.

Farmers, people who raise crops and animals

Architects, people who build safe homes and protective buildings

Hunters, people who protect the others physically, as well as hunt for any prey that can sustain them on Olympus

Scientists, people who study, analyse, and understand Olympus

Doctors, people who care for the health (physical and mental) of the ship

And other jobs are being created every second. When there is a need, people manage to fill it. 

Elpis:

The ship is huge, carrying plant species, farm animals, medical bays, a garden, a freshwater source, a science lab, an air recycler, everything you can imagine. While its inhabitants might be in cryosleep for most of the journey, it was designed to sustain 500 people for fifty years, in case something went wrong with the trajectory of the ship, or landing on Olympus. There's even a music room. 

The ship is entirely self-sustaining. Through the use of robots, computer programming, and a touch of AI, the only thing the inhabitants needed to do was get into their sleep pods and close the lids. There are a few on board, captains-in-training and junior pilots, who learned how to take over in case of an emergency, but the probability for that is low. 

The plants and animals alike are programmed with mind enhancements to feed themselves, ration their food, repopulate steadily, and to recycle everything. Once they land on Olympus, they will revert back to their natural states, albeit more intelligent, to ensure the survival of each species in a new environment. 

AUTHOR'S NOTES

i'm honestly way too fucking tired to do anything more here. so if you have questions, please ask, i know i probably missed a lot of things LMAO

also here's an unformatted spam of information because again, i'm tired and i'm lazy. 

CHARACTERS I WANT

i'd love some type of pilot or captain, who's your standard goody-goody-all-American boy. like, he naturally takes on the role of leader, but fights daily his demons of "am i doing the right thing, am i leading them to success or failure?" basically, someone i can irrevocably corrupt.

also i know nixie is probably easy to hate, she's spineless and pathetic, but i'd love a female friendship kinda vibe between her and a new character. 

most importantly, all these characters have a past together. before the memory-wipe, they're friends and enemies and reluctant allies. so i'd love to see some intertwining between their backstories, some bad blood between them, some romance before their stories start. literally make up whatever, i'll work with it. 

surprise me, but gimme characters i can twist and wreck and play with and ruin them forever <3 

THEMES

so the themes of this novel are grief, regret, guilt, fear, holding onto the past, etc. 

i won't say too much because spoilers, but i think that might be useful for you to know when making your characters. they're all going to struggle with something as they get their memories back, but from the perspective of somebody who has no idea that they did struggle.
