π•Žπ”Όπ”»β„•π”Όπ•Šπ”»π”Έπ• adjusted his blazer and carefully placed the black dahlia flower into his pocket. The flower's dark petals peeked out, a silent reminder of Lilith. Without wasting another moment, he sprinted across the campus, determined to catch Rowan before he could be whisked away to the train station.

"Rowan!" Wednesday called out, his voice sharp and urgent. "We need to talk."

Rowan, who was in the midst of loading his belongings into a waiting car, looked up, startled. "Wednesday, I'm not allowed to talk to anyone," he replied, his voice tinged with frustration and resignation. Ignoring Rowan's protest, Wednesday pressed on, his tone relentless. "You had a lot to say the other night when you tried to kill me and Lilith. You told me I was destined to destroy the school. Remember? Where did you get that drawing?"

Wednesday stepped closer, his eyes boring into Rowan's, seeking any hint of truth. But Rowan avoided his gaze, his expression conflicted. "I just went into the woods to clear my head. Then you both came after me," he muttered, his voice barely audible.

Just as Wednesday was about to demand more answers, Ms. Thornhill appeared beside the car, her presence commanding and firm. "Wednesday. You shouldn't be here," she warned, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Rowan seized the opportunity to hiss at Wednesday, "Yeah, back off, and leave me alone." His eyes darted away, filled with a mix of fear and defiance.

Wednesday, unfazed by the threat, lifted an eyebrow in silent defiance. As Rowan climbed into the passenger seat and Ms. Thornhill followed suit, the car's engine roared to life. The vehicle started to move, and Wednesday watched intently, his mind racing with unresolved questions. Just then, a flash of movement caught his eye. Thing, ever resourceful, had leapt onto the back of the car, clinging to it as it sped away. A small, satisfied smile tugged at Wednesday's lips. He turned and walked away, the black dahlia still nestled in his pocket, its presence a constant reminder of the dark mysteries he was determined to unravel.

"How do you lose him in a bathroom with no windows?" Wednesday whispered lowly at Thing, who was hiding behind a potted plant. Thing shrugged apologetically, and Wednesday, annoyed, snapped, "A lefty wouldn't have failed me." Thing sulked at the comment before Wednesday added, "Don't sulk. Now I'm going to have to find new evidence myself, since you're the one who lost our only lead."

He pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration, his thoughts interrupted by Bianca, who noticed him seemingly talking to a plant. She couldn't resist a smug comment. "I see you finally made a friend. Even if it is a plant," she mocked, smiling with satisfaction.

Unfazed but deeply annoyed, Wednesday retorted, "I go for quality over quantity."

Bianca rolled her eyes before heading to her desk. Wednesday faced away and walked to his own desk, shared with Xavier, who was busy drawing and was positioned next to Bianca's desk. "There's an open spot next to me. If you can stand sitting that close to an elitist snob," Xavier remarked.

As Wednesday sat down next to Xavier, he noticed his desk was next to Lilith's. She was engrossed in a book, cleverly hidden behind a plant textbook, and she sat next to Enid on her right. Xavier signaled Lilith to look his way. When she did, she smiled and waved at Wednesday. Xavier then waved his hand over his sketchbook, making a spider drawing come to life and crawl over the desk.

Ms. Thornhill's voice interrupted, "I doubt Lilith and Wednesday are impressed by your tricks, Mr. Thorpe."

Xavier smiled at Lilith and said, "Admit it, you're a little impressed."

Lilith smiled gently, finding the trick amusing. But Wednesday glared at the spider as it crawled toward him, then slammed his hand down on it, reducing it to charcoal dust. Lilith tried to hold back her laughter, hiding her face behind the book, while Xavier looked annoyed and closed his sketchbook.

As class was about to start, Enid leaned over to Lilith and whispered, "Lilith, I don't think that's a plant textbook." Lilith slowly turned to face her with a dangerous smile and whispered a small funny threat, "Bust me, and I'll turn all your clothes black."

Enid glared at her. "You wouldn't."

Lilith smiled mischievously. "Try me."

The two stared at each other for a moment before silently laughing together, their camaraderie momentarily easing the tense atmosphere.

"Wednesday, we're thrilled to have you join us on our journey into the world of carnivorous plants," Ms. Thornhill announced with a smile. She then addressed the class, gesturing to a white plant contained in a glass covering. "Now, who can tell us the name of this beauty?" Bianca raised her hand, preparing to answer confidently, but Wednesday beat her to it. "Dendrophylax Lindenii," he said, his voice clear and assertive.

Bianca shot him a weird look as he continued, ignoring her. "Otherwise known as the Ghost Orchid. First discovered on the Isle of Wight in 1854."

Ms. Thornhill looked impressed. "Very good, Wednesday. Looks like you may have competition for first chair, Bianca."

Lilith glanced at him, clearly impressed, while Bianca's mouth twitched in irritation. Ms. Thornhill then suggested, "Wednesday, perhaps you can identify the Ghost Orchid's greatest qualities."

"Resilience and adaptability. It's able to thrive in even the most hostile environments," he answered.

Before anyone could react, Bianca interjected, "But its mere presence can change the ecosystem, causing the established plants to reject it." Without looking at her, Wednesday retorted with a hint of venom in his tone, "Usually because the native species is allowed to thrive unchecked. Nothing a weedwhacker couldn't fix."

Bianca smirked, clearly enjoying the exchange. "You can certainly try."

Xavier, looking between them, asked, "Are we still talking about flowers?"

Lilith, smiling amusedly at the ongoing rivalry, replied, "Nope."

Ms. Thornhill stepped in awkwardly, trying to diffuse the tension. "Thank you, you two, for those illuminating insights. Clearly, the plants aren't the only carnivores in class today." She moved toward Lilith and, in one swift motion, snatched the book Lilith was hiding. It was a witch record book. "And I'll be taking that," she said, walking to her desk and placing the book down.

Lilith groaned and slammed her head on her desk in frustration. Enid laughed at her misfortune until Lilith, not looking up, flicked her wrist. Enid's hair tips suddenly turned black, replacing their usual colourful tips. Enid gasped, begging Lilith to change it back and apologizing profusely while Lilith laughed, enjoying the harmless retribution. Wednesday watched the scene unfold, a small smirk playing on his lips.
