dani ⋆ a sweet nickname coined for her by a lovely old client who misheard her when she was introducing herself. danbi didn't have the heart to correct her, and her colleagues sometimes like to remind her of this funny incident by calling her 'dani' at the office or in emails.

bambi ⋆ her innocent and kind appearance has had her friends often comparing her to the baby deer. at first, she found the nickname to be slightly annoying because of its implications but now she doesn't mind it as much. still not her favourite though.

✶ ꒰ ⋆✴︎˚｡⋆ ⋮ 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 ⨾ to the world around her, danbi comes across as someone who is conscientious and dedicated to her job - and many even go as far as to call her a workaholic. her analytical and logical nature means that she prefers to focus on the facts rather than emotions, which tends to drive others away. it's not as if she's a heartless robot though - far from it, actually. underneath that intimidating exterior, you'll come to learn that she is the most generous and warm-hearted person you will ever meet in your life, with so much love in her heart to give. but nobody will ever understand what she had to endure to become this gentle. behind each blissful smile, there's a certain emptiness - the sense that something important is missing or vacant. and sometimes, danbi isn't sure whether these thoughts and feelings she experiences are her own, or if they're ones instilled into her mind by her parents. so instead she buries herself in her career, in hopes that nobody else will notice these faults about her that would tarnish her perfect image. truly a force to be reckoned with, she is overflowing with creativity and ambition, unafraid to strive after the things she desires to have - but that's the question;  what does she want? because it's not this. it never has been. playing the role of the dutiful daughter as been excruciatingly exhausting, and danbi doesn't know how much longer she can keep up this charade.

✶ ꒰ ⋆✴︎˚｡⋆ ⋮ 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 ⨾ some children are brought into this world to celebrate the beautiful connection shared between a couple, who wish to embark upon creating a family together. others are born out of filial duty, simply a means to continue a lineage or family line. in danbi's case, she was made with only one purpose in mind; to serve as a vessel for her parents to fulfil all of the hopes and dreams that they never managed to achieve during their lifetime. so come march, when the vibrancy of spring had just begun to emerge outside, they finally met their beautiful baby girl whose life would no longer be her own from that day onwards. like i said, some children are born out of love; danbi was born out of selfishness.

being raised in a household where your opinions were constantly disregarded became normal for her. 'do what you are told', 'we know what's best for you', 'speak only when you are spoken to' - these were the kinds of rules and ideas that danbi was forced to adhere to on a daily basis, the phrases practically drilled into her mind. there was no choice or freedom to do what she pleased; she was a puppet on a string, dancing to the tune of her mother and father's words. and if by chance she tried to disobey, then of course she was punished. sending her to her bedroom early for the night or taking away her devices were classic options, but when danbi had really angered them by stepping out of line they gave her a specific look. it was a kind of withering glare that made her want to curl up into a ball and hide away forever, wishing that she hadn't said anything at all. and then they would stop talking to her until she came crawling back with her apologies. it was a vicious cycle, but it was the only thing she knew.

school was hardly any different. nobody dared approach her; danbi was always either hidden in a cornered off section of the library neck deep in some studying, or staring silently into space with nothing to say. classmates would often recall how awkward and strange her behaviour was, but their words didn't hold much meaning to her. the only thoughts she cared for were her parents', and those were usually determined by her academic success. naturally, she was the top student in her year group, and that was partly due to her intelligence. the other part of it was that danbi was good at school. she memorised the patterns; formatting of test questions, the structure behind student rankings and so on and so forth. she learned how to be the best, and perhaps that was all she took away from her education in those initial years.

when her precious brother was born, it was as if somebody had flipped a switch within her family. danbi was wholeheartedly ready to protect him from the ferocity of their parents' expectations, however the shocking blow never came. in fact, she watched in disbelief as they were softer and kinder with her brother's upbringing, never once subjecting him to any of the experiences which she had growing up. hope had started to blossom in her heart - maybe this would be a new chapter for them. maybe this is where it'll get easier. how foolish of danbi to think so; just because they adored their new son, it didn't also mean that love extended to her. in their heads, she still had a job to do. and that was when danbi realized that things would always be the same, no matter how much she wanted them to change.

applying to university for a law degree was the last thing she wanted, however if it kept her parents happy then that is exactly what she would do. studying filmmaking and cinematography was her true passion; delving into the world of movies and its intricate storylines was a form of escapism for danbi, allowing her a break from reality. but if she breathed even a fraction of this to her parents, then they would've immediately turned around and called her dreams laughable. 'how do you expect to make a career out of that?' they would've said, ridiculing her for considering such ludicrous ideas. so she stayed silent, graduated from seiyon with honours and a degree that she secretly despised, and accepted a position where she knew she'd be rotting away at a desk under mountains of paperwork for the rest of her life. at least the pay is good.

✶ ꒰ ⋆✴︎˚｡⋆ ⋮ 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐜𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐝 ⨾ where six students at seiyon decided to create a dating app for their group project. whilst visiting an old professor on campus, danbi was made aware by him of the phenomenon that is click cupid. to think of creating a dating app for your class project was quite admirable in her eyes, and of course she was absolutely willing to check it out. although it was hard to admit, danbi hadn't been so lucky when it came to love - she had faith that perhaps this app could turn things around for her. with newfound excitement bubbling in her chest, she happily sent in her profile only to realise that she was the first one to do so. talk about looking desperate...

a bitter woman who felt robbed of her life, so she took out her frustration on her unsuspecting daughter. brought up in a very traditional family, ahyun knew that she was just going to grow up to be some man's wife - but a small part of her wanted to fight against this inevitable factor. she worked hard, studied well at university and was on the cusp of having a brilliant job at a world renowned law firm. yet, as she knew, marriage swooped in at the last minute mercilessly shattering all of these dreams of hers. it was expected from her family that she follow their principles, meaning she had to give up her career. it's something ahyun's still not forgiven to this day, and it's largely why she was so hellbent on danbi achieving this goal of hers.

he's a man with high standards passed down to him through generations. within his family, success is not an option - it's a destination. you do whatever it takes to get there, and you don't stop until you do. this damaging mindset was hard to shake, eventually moulding changho into an equally harsh person as his parents were. and the thing was, even if he wanted to, he couldn't refute his family's methods; yes they were strict and gruelling, however their ways earned him a well paid job and a decent apartment by the time he had graduated. in a sense, everything had worked out. so when he discovered that ahyun was pregnant with their first child, changho was convinced that the way he was raised would work for danbi too.

genuinely, the light of her life and the reason why she still smiles. daehwi is sunshine personified, and no amount of special or preferential treatment could ever make her hate him. daehwi knows that there's a divide; he is fully aware of his parents' disconnect to danbi, and he has tried his level best to bridge the gap between them. however, he fears that their relationship is too far gone; the damage done is irreparable. nevertheless, danbi treasures every moment spent with her younger brother and calls him each night before he falls asleep to ask about his day.

ever since danbi joined the firm earlier in the year, yikyung had instantly taken her under her wing. the pair make quite the team; from tackling stacks of tedious paperwork to gossiping about their other co-workers over a cup of coffee, there's nothing these two don't do together at the office. despite their obvious close bond, danbi is sad to reveal that this friendship doesn't leave the workplace, and that she pretty much doesn't meet with yikyung unless their jobs are involved in some way. in the future, she hopes that their relationship can progress to more than just colleagues, but for now she is satisfied with their current rapport.

an international student who has come all the way to korea to participate in a competitive internship programme accidently spills their iced coffee onto one of the workers on their first day : sounds like something out of a kdrama. well, it's actually the catalyst event that led to georgia and danbi meeting, and then subsequently becoming friends. the fact that they were the same age made it easier to relate to one another, and helped solidify their already growing connection. they chat frequently through messages out with work, and it was georgia who started the nickname 'damn-bi' which soon caught on with the rest of their work friends.

majority of the people she studied with, danbi really hated - sohee was the exception. in their third year at seiyon, they were paired together for a project which neither were looking forwards to completing. when the time came to present to their professor, danbi noticed too late a vital error in one of the case files which she was tasked with studying - a mistake which was later pointed out to them. she certainly wasn't prepared to watch her previously perfect grades begin to crumble, but all of a sudden sohee chose to take the fall instead and let herself lose out on marks whereas danbi's final score remained untouched. when danbi asked why she would do such a thing, sohee simply shrugged and replied 'the world won't end if i fail. but for you, it seemed like it could have' before walking away. after that, danbi always had a lot of respect for her, and checks in on sohee from time to time to see how she's doing after graduation.

a fleeting summer romance between two teenagers who met by chance at the beach won't mean much to most people; but to danbi it was everything. she looks back fondly on those three months they spent together; exchanging cheesy love notes by the pier, sharing secret kisses on the boardwalk, endless laughter forever etched in their minds just like their footprints in the sand. first loves are hard to let go of, but when sunwoo resurfaced in her life years later, it was difficult to say no to this second chance. this time around though, their relationship wasn't as fairytale-esque as it had been when they were kids. maybe it was the memories that danbi missed, and not sunwoo. regardless of whatever it was, things just didn't work out they way they thought it would, officially parting ways after nearly a year of trying.

if you are lucky, then one day you will get to meet a person who understands you completely; someone who just fits into your world like the final piece of a puzzle that you've been searching for all along. they have you utterly convinced that you both are two halves from the same soul, and life after them will never be the same. for danbi, that person was kim taeho. the couple had been together for quite a few years, which made the crushing heartbreak of their split all the more devastating. now, she rarely discusses the details of what truly went down between them, but to summarise - essentially, taeho had been offered a research position in america and he wanted her to come with him. finding a job there for danbi wouldn't have been a problem, however it was her parents that didn't like the idea of her leaving. in the end, she was forced to choose; taeho or her family. and judging by the fact that he's one of her 'exes', we all know what answer she gave. in another life, she likes to believe that the world was kinder to them, and not a day goes by where she doesn't regret her decision.

imagine liking someone so much that you get rid of every single tomato related item in your apartment ( despite them being one of your favourite things ) the second they tell you that they are allergic, and then you discover that it was all an elaborate lie to cover up the fact that they simply just don't like eating them - enter our culprit, rian. this cute cat cafe barista seems to have captured the heart of danbi; i mean, have you seen him? are we really surprised? their first date to the local aquarium was enough for her to gauge the kind of person he was; sensitive, sweet, caring - and exactly what she was hoping to find on that click cupid dating app. the lego date they shared after also cemented her feelings for him, and she knew he was certainly going to be somebody she'd keep her eye on. however, danbi is in no rush to jump into another relationship at present; the pace she and rian are going at feels natural for them, and maybe in the near future they will become a couple. but then again, who knows what'll happen?

sketching ⋆ something that many don't know about danbi is that she's really good at drawing and sketching. her art teacher at school recommended that she seriously pursue a career out of it given her talent, however we know what reaction her parents' would've had if she wanted to go down that route.

hiking ⋆ whenever she is in the mood to relieve her stress, a good hike always does the trick. most of the time she goes alone, but on occasion georgia will join her so that she doesn't get lonely.

cooking ⋆ danbi loves to make all kinds of foods, and even has a cookbook filled with every single one of her favourite recipes inside. personally, thai cuisine is the best in her opinion.

badminton ⋆ okay, she is not the most sporty person... however danbi enjoys a good game of badminton every now and again. it was a hobby she picked up during high school, and even played at a local club for a while.

clowns ⋆ whilst still a teenager, danbi and a few of her classmates got together one night and decided to watch the horror movie 'it'. the terrifying image of pennywise scars her to this day.

rollercoasters ⋆ this is understandable. they move eerily fast and you never know when one might just break down. she likes going to theme parks, don't get her wrong - danbi simply prefers not going on any of the rides.

✶ ꒰ ⋆✴︎˚｡⋆ ⋮ 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐚 ⨾ #1. when she was 19, danbi went and got a large tattoo that spans from the top of her hip to her mid thigh. the design consisted of multiple daffodils and chrysanthemums clustered together; her and her brother's birth flowers. the thing is, her parents have no idea that she got this tattoo at all, and it doesn't seem like she plans on telling them about it any time soon.

#2. her mother thought it would be a good idea for her to learn an instrument, and therefore enrolled danbi onto piano lessons. every night, she would be made to sit and practice in the house for at least a few hours in order to hone her skills. by the age of 17, danbi had passed her abrsm ( associated board of the royal schools of music ) grade 8 in piano with distinction and went onto to receive further performance diplomas in music such as her arsm ( associate of the royal schools of music .. level 4 ) and her lrsm ( licentiate of the royal schools of music .. level 6 ). also, she is technically allowed to teach piano if she want to - however there isn't enough time on her busy schedule to do so.

#3. her brother daehwi is a huge lego enthusiast and has recruited her on many occasions to help him build especially difficult sets. their favourite ones in their house so far are the himeji castle, the eiffel tower, the hogwarts castle and the notre dame cathedral ( he has a thing for architecture, if you can't tell ).

#4. whilst on holiday in shanghai a couple of years ago, a friend of hers recommended that they check out this chic new hole-in-the-wall restaurant. danbi, who at this point wasn't very confident in her ability to speak chinese, reluctantly agreed to go along. everything appeared to be going pretty well, until the time came to ask for the bill. having a bit of faith in herself, danbi decided to put her skills to the test and ask one of the staff for the bill in chinese - big mistake. the sentence was riddled with so many language errors, that the waiter just looked at her in shock and walked past as if nothing had happened. the memory still haunts her to this day.

#5. when she was 14, danbi once entered a national drawing competition pretending to be an old man because the age restriction didn't allow her to compete. to her surprise, her entry ended up winning - however when the committee discovered that she was in fact a middle school student, she was forced to apologise for identity fraud and had her prize of 450,000 won revoked.

also i swear that not all of my ocs have such devastating backstories - majority of them actually have happy and stable family lives, it just so happens that jun and danbi are the only one's who don't fit into that category. and they just happen to be the ones i chose to do first 😄

the origins of danbi actually came about after seeing so many people using youha as a face claim in survival show apply fics, but then completely vilifying her character and making her come across as horrible for 'drama' purposes. seeing this, i thought to myself that i wanted to do something different - thus this total sweetheart was born. moreover, if i didn't think of her at the time i did, i probably wouldn't have even considered joining click cupid at all - which is fr a crazy thought 😮 anyways, i'm glad i submitted her and had the chance to watch her grow on the server (plus, her relationship with rian is so adorable i wanna cry 🥹 thank you feven for making such a cutie ♡)
