chapter twelve . nona

Wade stood in the middle of his room, his brown eyes scanning around the mess around him. It's easy to say that his and Hunter's room is by far the messiest room in the house.

Hunter was on the floor, tying his shoe. "Should we pick up before we go?"

His best friend hesitated, taking one more look at the mess, "Nah." He said in a confident manner.

"Yeah, picking up is too much work anyways." Hunter finished tying his shoes. "So, coffee at Nona's and then we can go out for that photoshoot?"

The fans were always desperate to get pictures of the two famous best friends together, so it wasn't a strange occurrence when they always get booked together for photoshoots.

Wade nodded, grabbing his pair of sunglasses. They were his favorite pair, because they somehow remind him of Tony Stark's glasses even though they don't even look anything alike.

Hunter grabbed the car keys and began to walk outside to the car, keeping his head low. One of the security guards helped him climb into the drivers seat.

Driving was the one thing that the group refused to give away. They didn't care that fans could snap pictures of them, because it was better than hiring someone to drive them.

The group likes to think of it as their last chance at freedom, to continue to find their hiding spots before its game over.

The two made it to Nona's house quickly, immediately feeling welcomed by the cozy decoration of the house.

Nona was practically family to Hunter, and Wade was the only other person who visited her house. It used to be just her and Hunter, bonding together over a cup of coffee like grandmother and grandson. Then Wade began to join when he felt like it.

Although Wade will never have the relationship Hunter has with Nona, he still loves the woman dearly and enjoys every interaction with her.

Nona was quick to rush into the living room and sweep the boys into a hug. They had already let themselves in because Nona told Hunter where she puts the house key.

She ushered them to the couch, where a table separated them from the other couch where she sat.

Nona had already set coffee and some treats on the table for them.

"So, boys! I need the latest gossip. Every last detail!" The older lady exclaimed excitedly, holding on tightly to her cup of tea.

Hunter was quick to respond, a smile on his face that was rarely seen by anyone. It was so bright that it could possible rival the sun. "Maisie and Adonis started dating, Elizabeth dyed her hair pink, Jonna didn't make it into the cast of a show- and I think that's it!"

"What about that one blonde girl you brought to my cafe, you still talking to her?"

"Um, we're not really talking. Lucy's just a good friend." The boy blushed, reaching forward to grab his coffee.

"Uh huh, sure." Nona exchanged a look with Wade, who burst out into laughter when Hunter smacked him in the shoulder.

"It's the truth!" Hunter let out an exasperated sigh, "But anyways Nona, have you thought about dating anyone else?"

"Oh I sure have." Nona flicked her hand as if the subject wasn't new to her, "But my dating life is far less interesting than you kid's."

Nona's husband died about five months before she met Hunter, which is why she likes to call Hunter her "blessing in disguise". He showed up in her time of need and took the place of the son she never had.

You see, Hunter met Nona when he was sixteen, after his first encounter with the paparazzi on his own. The two quickly bonded when he began to show up everyday, and Nona's grief just went away.

The three continued to talk until it hit the time for the two boys to leave for their photoshoot. Nona gave them each a hug goodbye and sent them home with the cookies she had made before they showed up.

The shoot went by fairly well, and they both left earlier than they thought. As a tradition after each photoshoot, the two stopped at their closest In-and-Out and bought two hamburgers.

They gossiped for a little bit more before buying hamburgers for the rest of the group.

"I love you so much right now." Zinnia gasped, eagerly taking one of the burgers from the bag. She hugged both of them and waited for Maisie to grab her's before the two best friends scurried back towards the room.

Everyone else walked up individually to grab their share of the food and thanked the two boys.

"You know what? Today was a pretty eventful day." Wade told Hunter as they walked back towards her room.

Hunter was the first to make it into the room, diving onto his bed. "It was, now I wanna sleep."

"I think I'm gonna clean." Wade decided. He leaned over and began to pick up a bunch of their cups.

"Fine, I guess I will too."

And object by object, the two best friends stayed up as long as they had to until their room was spotless.

Oliver's hand shoved a bunch of clothes into his backpack as quietly as possible, going through the invisible list in his mind to make sure he wasn't doing.

What was he doing? He doesn't know, all he knew is that he had the strange impulse to a place that he hadn't seen in years.

So, without waking up Victor, he grabbed all his essentials and climbed into a cab to the airport.

The airport was calm, a lot calmer than he expected for the night, but the lines were short and he was able to make it through security without a single paparazzi incident.

He sat down in one of the seats, his hands resting on the sides while he tried to figure out what could possibly be wrong with him.

Oliver contemplated going back, but it was something he knew he had to do, and it was too late to back out.

With every ounce of courage he had left, Oliver Swift stepped onto the plane and braced himself for what was ahead of him.
