INDIANA: I barely know this Arno guy, I don't even remember seeing him around school.

BONNIE: I haven't ever met him either. I remember hearing about him, not seeing him though.

BONNIE: Anyways about Stefan. I'm not saying don't date him. Just saying take it slow.

INDIANA: You were the one who said to go for it.

BONNIE: It's not an about-face. You're single for the first time in your entire high school career. It's the perfect time to play the field.

INDIANA: Look, for once I'm trying to walk away from that, I want a serious relationship Bonnie. I've always "played the field". So, seriously, what are you not saying?

BONNIE: Hey, um, I gotta find Caroline. She's not answering her phone. So I'll see you guys later.

INDIANA: Bonnie, wait...

Tyler throws the ball on Stefan, but Stefan catches it with an not human speed. He throws the ball to Tyler who moves back under the shock.

INDIANA: That throw was insane. I didn't know you played football.

STEFAN: I used to. It was a long time ago.

INDIANA: So why don't you try out for the team?

STEFAN: Yeah, I don't think so.

INDIANA: So you don't like football?

STEFAN: No, I love football. I think it's a great sport. But in this case, I don't think football likes me. You saw Tyler over there, and we both know how Matt will stick by him no matter what.

INDIANA: They don't know you. To them, you're mysterious loner guy. Wouldn't hurt to be part of. Make some friends.

STEFAN: Says the girl who spends her alone time writing in a cemetery.

Stefan is on the bleachers watching the football team. Indiana is with the cheerleaders, she's co-captain.

MATT: Nice job! Nice job!

TANNER: Mr. Lockwood, is there anything you're good at? 'Cause it isn't history, and it sure as hell isn't defending the ball!

TYLER: Yes, coach.

TANNER: Now do it again!

BONNIE: Oh, my God! You're here!

INDIANA: Shocked us all, sister! they laugh

ELENA: Yep. I can't be sad girl forever. The only way to get things back to the way they were are to do things that were.

INDIANA: Oh, and you're both coming to dinner tonight.

BONNIE: We are?

INDIANA: Mm-hmm. You, me, Lena, Arno and Stefan.

ELENA: Really? You want to meet Arno?

TANNER: Varsity trials were last spring, Mr. Salvatore.

TANNER: Well, I won't be asking you who won the super bowl in '71.

STEFAN: '71 was the... Sorry. I... I understand that, sir.

TANNER: Just to see you get knocked on your ass. Borrow some gear. Go! Before I change my mind. Let's run it again!

TYLER: First my girlfriend, now the team?

Caroline arrives in Damon's car. Damon takes off his sunglasses and smirks at Indiana she looks at him confused that continues cheer leading.

BONNIE: Oh, my God. That must be the mystery guy from the grill.

ELENA: Salvatore, as in Stefan?

Caroline walks over to Indiana and brags about Damon. Indiana looks at Damon who takes of his sunglasses with a massive smirk on his face and winks at her she sarcastically blows a kiss at him while glaring and walks to Caroline. Damon smirks and drives off.

CAROLINE: I got the other brother. Hope you don't mind. Sorry I'm late, girls. I, uh, was busy. All right, let's start with the double pike herkey hurdler, what do you say?

Stefan plays with the team and knocks Tyler over.

TYLER: I think to be taught who's captain.

MATT: Really?

MARTIN: You don't get to walk on the field and act like you own the place after 5 minutes.

TYLER: Just hang one up there and I'll take care of the rest.

MATT: All right, let's huddle up. Set, hut! Stefan gets the ball and Tyler jumps on him knocking him over and Stefan's pinky finger breaks.

TYLER: Oh! Whoo! Welcome to the team, buddy.

TANNER: You gonna live, Salvatore?

STEFAN: Yeah.

TANNER: Walk it off, son.

MATT: Hey. You all good? he helps him up

STEFAN: It's all right. he fixes his broken finger.

TANNER: All right.

[Stefan's bedroom.]

Stefan walks in and see's Damon reading his diary

DAMON: How were tryouts? Did you make the team? Very Emerson, the way you reveal your soul with so many... Adjectives. Stefan snatches his diary back and Damon stands up.

STEFAN: What are you doing here?

DAMON: I've come to apologise. I've been doing some thinking, some soul searching, and... I want us to start over. We need to put the past behind us. You're my little brother, and if you want to live a normal, happy human life, then I want that for you. Maybe I can do it, too. That I can learn to be a non-living living person. Maybe there's hope for both of us. he smiles sarcastically.

STEFAN: You know, it doesn't have to be this way, Damon.

DAMON: Of course it doesn't. he stands p and goes to walk out before turning around, I saw Indiana today, btw. That means "by the way." She was at cheer leading practice. She looked so perky in her little short shorts. Stefan gets angry, Just...simmer down, I didn't even go near her. I've got my own cheerleader now. Ooh, that reminds me...I gotta run. I have a date. Sweaty palms. Wish me luck. he leaves.

[Gilbert's kitchen.]

Indiana is prepping dinner with Elena helping she decided to wear something cute, she decided to wear a white top with white shorts and a black and white flannel  jacket and white air forces. Her hair was down and wavy.

BONNIE: You explain it. Last night, I'm watching Nine-o, a commercial breaks come on and I'm like, I bet it's that phone commercial. And sure enough, it's that guy and the girl with the bench, he flies to Paris and he flies back. They take a picture.

ELENA: Oh, come on. That commercial's on a constant loop.

BONNIE: Fine. Well, how about this? Today I'm obsessed with numbers. 3 numbers. I keep seeing 8, 14, and 22. How weird is that?

INDIANA: Maybe we should play the lottery.
Elena and Indiana giggle Bonnie stares at them unamused,
Have you talked to your grams?

BONNIE: She's just gonna say it's because I'm a witch. I don't want to be a witch. Do you want to be a witch?

ELENA: I don't want to be a witch.

INDIANA: Wingardium Leviosa and all that.
Indiana mutters while sticking her hand in a bowl of chips. Elena is poring pasta into a bowl and Bonnie smiles.

BONNIE: And putting it in a nice bowl isn't fooling anybody.

ELENA: Ok, serving spoons. Where are the serving spoons?

BONNIE: Little drawer on your left. Elena opens the draw and the serving spoons are there.

INDIANA: Ok, so you've been in this kitchen like a thousand times.

BONNIE: Yeah, that's it.

They hear the doorbell.

INDIANA: (to Bonnie) Ok, he's here. Don't be nervous. Just be your normal loving self.

ELENA: Arno should be here too.

Bonnie stays alone the kitchen.

BONNIE: Birthday candles.

She opens a drawer and find the candles

ARNO: So you must be the lovely Indiana and Bonnie, Elena talks about all the time. he chuckles

BONNIE: That is us, it's great to finally meet you.

INDIANA: Please join us at the table.
she keeps having an uneasy feeling about Arno, something is very off in his presence but she wanted to be supportive of her sister as she clearly likes him a lot.

[After meeting everyone and giving hugs and kisses they all sit down]

ELENA: Did Tanner give you a hard time today Stefan?

STEFAN: Well, he let me on the team, so I must have done something right.

INDIANA: Bonnie, you should have seen Stefan today. Tyler threw a ball right at him, and...

BONNIE: Yeah, I heard.

ELENA: Why don't you tell Stefan and Arno about your family?

BONNIE: Um, divorced. No mom. Live with my dad. Hmm.

INDIANA: No, about the witches. Bonnie's family has a lineage of witches. It's really cool.

BONNIE: Cool isn't the word I'd use.

ARNO: Well, it's certainly interesting. I'm not too versed, but I do know that there's a history of celtic druids that migrated here in the 1800s.

BONNIE: My family came by way of Salem.

STEFAN: Really? Salem witches?

BONNIE: Yeah.

STEFAN: I would say that's pretty cool.

BONNIE: Really? Why?

STEFAN: Salem witches are heroic examples of individualism and nonconformity.

BONNIE: Yeah, they are.

ARNO: That's actually very true, Stefan. he smirks at him but Stefan ignores him. Something is very off about Arno.

They hear the doorbell, again.

ELENA: I wonder who that could be.

INDIANA: I'll get it.
she opens the door to see Caroline and Damon she looks at them confused.

CAROLINE: Surprise! Bonnie said you were doing dinner, so we brought dessert.

INDIANA: Oh.

DAMON: Hope you don't mind.
Caroline runs in with desert but Damon is leaning on the door frame. Stefan walks in and stands next to Indiana.

STEFAN: What are you doing here?

DAMON: Waiting for Indiana to invite me in.

INDIANA: Oh, yeah, you can...

STEFAN: No, no, no. He can't, uh... he can't stay. Can you, Damon?
he grabs Indie round the waist and smiles at her before looking back up at Damon.

CAROLINE: Get in here.

STEFAN: We're just... finishing up.

INDIANA: It's fine. Just come on in.
she says looking concerned as Stefan gulps.

DAMON: You have a beautiful home, Indiana.

INDIANA: Thank you.

[Gilbert's Living Room]

DAMON: Arno is it?

ARNO: Yes

DAMON: Have we met, you look very familiar?

ARNO: I don't think so, I guess I just have that face.
he chuckles and Damon gives him a very obvious fake smile.

CAROLINE: I cannot believe that Mr. Tanner let you on the team. Tyler must be ceiling. But good for you. Go for it.

DAMON: That's what I always tell him. You have to engage. You can't just sit there and wait for life to come to you. You have to go get it.

CAROLINE: Yeah, Elena wasn't so lucky today. It's only because you missed summer camp. God, I don't know how you're ever going to learn the routines.

INDIANA: I'll work with her. She'll get it.

CAROLINE: I guess we can put her in the back.

DAMON: You know, you don't seem like the cheerleader type, Elena or even you Indiana.

CAROLINE: Oh, it's just 'cause their parents died. Yeah, I mean, they're just totally going through a blah phase. They used to be way more fun.
she looks at the twins Arno is comforting Elena who looks like she is about to break down and Stefan is holding Indiana's hand stroking her knuckles.
And I say that with complete sensitivity.

DAMON: I'm sorry. I know what it's like to lose both your parents. In fact, Stefan and I have watched almost every single person we've ever cared about die.

STEFAN: We don't need to get into that right now, Damon.

DAMON: Oh, you know what, you're right, Stef. I'm sorry. The last thing I wanted to do was bring her up. Mmm.

She gets a message from an Unknown number. She walks back into the living room confused, everyone looks at her.

DAMON: Let me guess, dishes cleaned themselves? They laugh except Stefan and Indiana who looks confused.

She walks outside and opens the door, Elena follows her. There's a little box on the swing where they said it would be, she looks at Elena who is just as confused and picks up the box before bringing it inside.

STEFAN: You okay?

ELENA: There was--

INDIANA: --Nothing, everything's fine. she looks at Elena before walking into the kitchen placing the box on the side she hadn't opened it yet. She thought of leaving it.

[Gilbert's kitchen.]

DAMON: One more.

INDIANA: Oh, thank you.
she misses and drops it but Damon catches it.

DAMON: I like you. You know how to laugh. And you make Stefan smile, which is something I haven't seen in a very long time.

INDIANA: Earlier, did you mean...Katherine?

she goes to put a dish in the dishwasher but Damon takes it and places it in.

DAMON: Mm-hmm and her twin sister Anastasia.

INDIANA: How did they die?

DAMON: In a fire. Tragic fire.

INDIANA: Recently?

DAMON: Well, it seems like it was yesterday.

INDIANA: What were they like?

DAMON: I didn't know Katherine that well but Anastasia, she was beautiful. A lot like you in that department. She was just very complicated and selfish and at times not very kind, but very sexy and seductive.

INDIANA: So which one dated who?

DAMON: Nicely deduced. Ask Stefan. I'm sure his answer differs from mine. I'd quit cheer leading if I were you.
Indiana walks over and starts folding place mats Damon follows and helps.

INDIANA: Why do you say that?

DAMON: Oh, I saw you at practice. You looked miserable.

INDIANA: You saw that?

DAMON: Uh-huh.

INDIANA: I used to love it. It was fun. Things are different this year. Everything that used to matter doesn't anymore.

DAMON: So don't let it. Quit, move on. Problem solved. Ta-da.

INDIANA: Some things could matter again.

DAMON: Maybe. But... seems a little unrealistic to me.

INDIANA: Caroline would kill me.

DAMON: I'll protect you.
they chuckle and smile before there is silence.

INDIANA: I'm sorry. About Anastasia and Katherine. You lost them, too.
he smiles at her before looking down, he notices the box.

DAMON: Stefan buy you something fancy?

INDIANA: Nope, I found it outside, someone told me to go get it.

DAMON: Who?

INDIANA: An unknown number.
she pulls out her phone and shows him, they've very close and Damon looks at her, she looks up at him before stepping away and looking at the box.

DAMON: Open it.

INDIANA: I'm not sure...

DAMON: Come on. he takes the box and opens it, there's a note.

INDIANA: I have no idea.

Damon looks at the girl, he can tell she's confused and worried at the same time, she lifts up the necklace inside and it smells like roses. It's a beautiful tree necklace, with diamonds around the edges. She puts the necklace back in the box and turns to fold more place mats, He looked at the girl with curiosity as she closed the box and put it hands it to Damon.

INDIANA: Give it to Caroline, I'm sure she'll love it.

DAMON: But, they gave it to you.

INDIANA: Who though? Damon stays silent, Exactly, some horny boy from school probably, it happens. they chuckle. Bonnie walks in with Elena and Arno.

BONNIE: Hey. Need some help?

DAMON: Sure, why not?

ELENA: Hey, I'm going to take Arno home. I'll be back later

INDIANA: Okay, nice meeting you Arno.

ARNO: It was wonderful meeting you too Ana-- he coughs --Sorry, Indiana.

He kisses her hand and walks out the door with Elena. That's when something in Damon's head clicks. He nearly called Indiana, Anastasia...

[Gilbert's living room.]

STEFAN: That's a really nice scarf.

CAROLINE: Mm. Thank you, it's new.

STEFAN: Can I see it? I mean, would you mind taking it off?

CAROLINE: Oh, I can't.

CAROLINE: Um...All I know is that I can't take it off.

DAMON: What are you two kids talking about?

STEFAN: I was just commenting on her scarf.

DAMON: Hmm. Hey, you know, um, Indiana and Bonnie are finishing up the dishes. Why don't you go see if you can help?

CAROLINE: Does it look like I do dishes?

DAMON: For me?

CAROLINE: Hmm... I don't think so.

DAMON: compels, Go see if Indiana needs help in the kitchen.

CAROLINE: You know what? I'm gonna go see if Isla needs some help in the kitchen.

STEFAN: They are people, Damon. She's not a puppet. She doesn't exist for your amusement, for you to feed on whenever you want to.

Stefan kisses her and things get heated. When he removes his shirt, he turns into Damon. Indiana screams. She wakes up, it was a nightmare. There was a crow at the window tapping she opens the window and looks and smiles at the bird before it flies off into the night.

STEFAN: There must be a shred of humanity left inside my brother. Somewhere. I keep hoping. But how do I make him see it? And how do I protect her? Damon walks in and Stefan closes his diary.

DAMON: Somebody bought your girlfriend a pretty, little necklace today?

STEFAN: What? Who?

DAMON: Not sure, here.
he chucks him the box before leaving Stefan alone. Stefan opens it and see's the necklace, he tries to pick it up but it burns him. Vervain?

[Later. The Soccer game.]

INDIANA: Ooh. Look at you. You look hot in your jersey.

STEFAN: And you look all cute in your uniform, he looks at Elena not in uniform. What happened? No more cheerleader?

ELENA: Maybe, in the future but right now it's not right.

STEFAN: You both suffered a great loss. You are not same people. You should be looking ahead. You should be starting over. Ok? I hope you don't think this is too soon or too weird, but... I, uh, I wanted you to have this. Damon said it was yours.

Elena looks at them and can't help but feel slightly jealous Arno is never at school or after school, he's always so busy. She walks away knowing Caroline has spotted her not in uniform.

Stefan hands Isla a black box she opens it and there is a necklace she furrows her brows.

INDIANA: The creepy unknown persons necklace?

STEFAN: It's beautiful, just like you and we can just pretend it's from me.
she blushes and looks at the floor

INDIANA: Of course, I love it. Thank you. Would you?
he nods and she turns around as he clasps the necklace round her neck.

STEFAN: That we are. They laugh and Indiana kisses him. When she turns around Caroline is in front of her.

TANNER: Wait, wait, wait, Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait. Let's be honest here. In the past, we used to let other teams come into our town and roll right over us! But that is about to change. Indiana and Elena hear them and turn and run towards them so does Stefan as he grabs Tyler off of Jeremy and Matt pushes Tyler.

STEFAN: Hey, he's down! Enough!

INDIANA: Jeremy, no!

Jeremy grabs a broken beer bottle and goes to hit Tyler but it slices Stefan's hand. Matt grabs Tyler to try talk to him but he pushes him off.

TYLER: Get off me! Stop!

ELENA: What the hell, Jeremy? Put your head up, you're bleeding.

JEREMY: I'm fine!

INDIANA: Yeah, you smell fine.

JEREMY: Just stop, ok? he walks off and Elena follows him.

MATT: Come on, man. Come on.

INDIANA: Oh, my God, your hand.

STEFAN: No, no, no, it's fine.

INDIANA: Is it deep? How bad is it? Come on!

She grabs Stefan's hand but there isn't a mark just a tiny bit of blood.

INDIANA: But... I saw it, it was...

STEFAN: He missed. It's not my blood. he wipes his hand on his jeans, See? I'm fine.

INDIANA: No, no, no. I... I saw it. The glass cut your hand. It was...

STEFAN: It's ok. I'm ok. It's almost kick-off time, all right? So, um, I'll, uh, I'll see you after the game.

CAROLINE: Hey, Tiki, it's all wobbly. Can you stand straight, please? Could someone please help Tiki?

BONNIE: Hey! Where you been?

INDIANA: Can I ask you a question and you give me a really serious no-joke response?

BONNIE: Of course. What is it?

INDIANA: The bad mojo. When you touched Stefan and you had that reaction...

BONNIE: You know what, forget I said that. Your little dinner party plot totally won me over.

INDIANA: No, Bonnie, seriously. What was it? Did you see something, Or...

BONNIE: It wasn't clear like a picture. Like today, I keep seeing those same numbers I told you about... 8, 14, 22.

INDIANA: Yeah?

BONNIE: When I touched Stefan, it was a feeling. And it vibrated through me, and it was cold, and it...

INDIANA: And what?

BONNIE: It was death. It's what I imagine death to be like.

Indiana goes to her car to grab her pom-poms, when she locked the car back up she turned around to be facing Damon. His icy blue eyes sent shivers down her spine.

INDIANA: You scared me. What are you doing here?

DAMON: I'm hiding from Caroline. he whispers

INDIANA: And why is that? she whispers back, sassy

DAMON: I needed a break. She talks more than I can listen.

INDIANA: That could be a sign.

DAMON: Well, she's awfully young.

INDIANA: Okay, Grandpa. she laughs, She's not much younger than you are.

DAMON: I don't see it going anywhere in the bigger picture. I think she'd drive me crazy.

INDIANA: Caroline does have some really annoying traits, but we've been best friends since the first grade and that means something to me.

DAMON: Duly noted. I'm sorry if I make you uncomfortable. That's not my intention.

INDIANA: Yes, it is. Otherwise you wouldn't put an alternate meaning behind everything you say.

DAMON: You're right. I do have other intentions, but so do you.

INDIANA: Really?

DAMON: Mm-hmm. I see 'em. You want me.

INDIANA: Excuse me?

DAMON: I get to you. You find yourself drawn to me. You think about me even when you don't want to think about me. I bet you even dreamed about me. And right now...he attempts compulsion, You want to kiss me.

She stares at him as he smirks and leans in, she felt his cold breath on her face before she slapped him. His head turned as he looked back at her shocked with a slight rage as he holds his jaw.

INDIANA: I don't know what game you're trying to play with Stefan here, but I don't want to be part of it. And I don't know what happened in the past, but let's get one thing straight... I am not Anastasia!

She storms off, how could he try make a move on her. He's dating her best friend and she's dating his brother.

[Later.]

MATT: You gonna be able to play?

STEFAN: Oh, yeah, I'm good.

MATT: Uh, what you did back there... you had Jeremy's back.

STEFAN: Ah, he's a messed-up kid. Somebody's gotta look out for him.

MATT: I know. This week at practice I was a dick.

STEFAN: Had your reasons.

MATT: No excuse. Good luck tonight. We're lucky to have you. he jogs off when Stefan hears someone behind him.

DAMON: Isn't that nice? Stefan joins a team, makes a friend. It's all so, "rah, rah, go team, yeah!" he cheers sarcastically raising his fist in the air.

STEFAN: Not tonight. I'm done with you.

DAMON: Nice trick with Indiana. Let me guess... vervain in the necklace? I admit, I was a bit surprised. It's been a while since anyone could resist my compulsion. Where'd you get it?

STEFAN: I didn't. The necklace was soaked in it when you gave it to me.

DAMON: Hmm, guess I could just seduce her the old-fashioned way. Or I could just... eat her.

STEFAN: No. You're not gonna hurt her, Damon.

DAMON: No?

STEFAN: Because deep down inside, there is a part of you that feels for her. I was worried that you had no humanity left inside of you, that you may have actually become the monster that you pretend to be.

DAMON: Who's pretending?

STEFAN: Then kill me.

DAMON: Well, I'm... I'm tempted.

STEFAN: No, you're not. You've had lifetimes to do it, and yet, here I am. I'm still alive. And there you are. You're still haunting me. After 145 years. Katherine is dead. And you hate me because you loved her, and you torture me because you still do. And that, my brother, is your humanity.

TANNER: Salvatore! What the hell? We've got a game to play!

DAMON: If that's my humanity... then what's this?

Damon bites Tanner, and drops his body to the ground.

STEFAN: No!

DAMON: Anyone, anytime, any place.

[In the field]

Indiana is stood in the field waiting for Stefan when she gets this slight pain in her head, she rubs her fingers against her temples when she see's a flash of white. Picture spread across her brain a body, on the floor. Bite marks, blood dripping. The number 22 on the floor. That's when she gasped and open her eyes but the picture's surroundings looked familiar so she walked towards the car park where she saw a body on the floor. Mr Tanner. Just like the pictures she saw in her head. She screamed and fell to the floor shuffling her legs back. When she felt someone grab her from behind and cradle her, she looked up and saw Arno.

ARNO: Shhh, it's okay.

MATT: Indie!?

he embraced her as she sat on the floor crying in his arms that's when she saw Matt run towards her, he looked at her confused tears filling her eyes then he looked at Mr Tanner he went pale.

ARNO: Matt, get help! Matt stood there in shock, Now Matt!

Matt runs off, Indiana still in Arno's arms crying.

The police arrived. Bonnie looks at the scene. She sees a pennons "BLDG 8", the immatricualtion's car is "FHT 14" and on the ground, the number 22. Bonnie is afraid. Indiana walks over to her.

INDIANA: I think something is wrong with us.

BONNIE: Huh?

INDIANA: You've been seeing them numbers all day and a couple of minutes before I found Mr Tanner, I saw him like this but in my head when I was on the field like the vision from the bonfire. Pictures but it was him.

BONNIE: Oh, Indie.
she hugs her and they both tear up.

[The car park.]

ELENA: What kind of animal could be doing all this? Why would it come out of the woods and attack someone in the middle of town?

STEFAN: I don't know. I don't know.

ELENA: Me and Indie were so sure that you cut your hand. We saw it.

STEFAN: I'm gonna be fine. I'm gonna be fine, that's what matters I'm going to go find Indiana, I'll catch up with you later. she nods and he walks off.

[Stefan's bedroom. He's writing in his diary.]

STEFAN: I thought there was hope that somewhere deep inside, something in Damon was still human, normal. But I was wrong. There's nothing human left in Damon. No good, no kindness. No love. Only a monster Who must be stopped.

[Indiana's bedroom]

Damon is stood in Indiana's room while she is asleep, he looks at her. She looks so innocent, so peaceful, so beautiful. He smiles at her before stroking her cheek with his thumb. She starts to flutter her eyelids open before Damon disappears. She turns her lamp off before going back to sleep. Damon is watching her in the window. He frowns before walking back home.
