Kind blue eyes followed your every move as they carefully observed. His gloved hands were folded behind his back. He stood in the corner of the room, near the heavy wooden doors latched with iron. He watched the way the expensive fabric draped around your shoulders folded and rippled across your body. He acknowledged the color was flattering on you, but he'd be hung if he ever pointed it out.

"You are welcome to sit, sir," You told the quiet man. You gestured to the large cherry wood table in the center of the library. It was surrounded by matching chairs, each one of them hand-crafted. Akaashi simply shook his head.

"I thank you for your offer, your majesty," Akaashi spoke, his voice steady and calm. "But I'd prefer to stand. Just in case." You nodded your head. Akaashi took his job seriously. Even though in the heavily guarded confines of the palace danger was more scarce than wealthy working-class members, he was alert.

You scanned the neat spines of the books that lined the sturdy shelves. You couldn't seem to find the specific novel you were looking for. Someone must have misplaced it while cleaning. Everything was alphabetized, it wasn't that hard to put things back where they were supposed to be. Well, in your father's servant's defense, most of them were illiterate.

He didn't allow them a chance to learn, insisting that those with royal blood ought to be the best educated. He was elitist. Apathetic to the struggles of the commoners. He was a tyrant. Everyone knew a rebellion was inevitable, perhaps that was why your father insisted on Akaashi constant watch over you.

"Have you lost something?" Akaashi wondered out loud and you sighed in response.

"Yes, a book," You explained, somewhat disappointed.

"What is the name?" He asked curiously. Akaashi uncharacteristically stepped away from his chosen post to approach you.

"Beowulf," You said simply. Akaashi began to look around the room, aiding you in your search. You tried to keep your attention on your current quest, but you found your eyes drifting in your companion's direction. In your eyes, Akaashi was the most handsome knight in the entire guard. You were glad he was the one your father assigned to you.

"Is this it?" Akaashi spoke up, holding up a worn book. You quickly leaped over to him, excitement sparking behind your eyes. A small smile appeared on Akaashi's face when he realized it was, in fact, exactly what you were looking for.

"Yes, thank you!" You exclaimed, a grin on your face as you were reunited with the lost belonging.

"Of course, my prince."
