Astrid had finished her day of training both with the axe and preparing to become Berks first female chief, it left her exhausted, so she headed to her favorite swimming hole to bathe and relive pent up stress. As she arrived at her swimming hole, she set down her towel, bar of soap and fresh change of clothes while she stripped out of her sweaty clothes and placed them in a satchel she'd take back home to wash later.

The water surprisingly was warm, despite the light snowfall that graced Berk, Snoggletog was in two days and everyone on Berk had set up decorations, the massive tree in the center of the village and had everyone in the holiday spirit.

Astrid however wasn't in the Snoggletog spirit this year, because Hiccup was dead. Astrid washed her hair out as she remembered when she and Hiccup would spend hours out in the snow, making snow dragons, having snowball fights, and exchange gifts in the Hall. That memory brought a smile to Astrid's face, she and Hiccup had the greatest friendship back then.

Until her Uncle Finn died by the Flightmare.

She sighed sadly at how she treated Hiccup after that, the thoughts of simply ignoring him, calling him Useless on his last night on Mindgard and abandoning him made her feel extra filthy. So she scrubbed her body down harder until she felt clean again. After thirty minutes, Astrid got out of the pool to dry off, she then put on her casual leather armor and made her way back to her home.

Upon entering her home, Astrid saw her parents and a group of Vikings unknown to her were having friendly conversation, when the Vikings turned to see Astrid at the doorway and Asbjorn Haddock smiled at his daughter.

"Ah Astrid! Come, there's someone we'd like you to meet!" The elder Hofferson brought his daughter toward the unknown Vikings. "This is Chieftain Geir and his son Magnus of the Tree-root tribe, they are here because you and Magnus are to enter a marriage contract!"

That caused Astrid's heart to stop and glare at her parents with disbelief, before Astrid could even speak, the heir of the Tree-root tribe spoke up. "It is an honor to finally meet you in person Astrid Hofferson. And your reputation proceeds you." He said in a respectful and flattering tone. The Hofferson girl looked at the Trees-root heir, he was 5'9 in height, he was stocky like Snotlout, he had his brown hair slicked back and tied in a pony tail that reached the top of his spine, he had amber colored eyes and light stubble on his cheeks and chin.

Astrid decided to play along for now, then she'd give her parents a piece of her mind. "A pleasure to meet you." She extended her hand out, Magnus took it and kissed the top of her hand, causing Astrid to flush slightly, Chieftain Geir smiled at the sight and introduced himself. "When I heard that Stoick's pathetic excuse of a son had been killed by a Night Fury, I was overjoyed! I've known Stoick and the Haddocks for years, and it pained me to see such a powerful and respectful chief have to suffer the burden of a weak excuse of a Viking heir."

Geir's comment made Astrid's blood boil with rage, Hiccup wasn't weak or pathetic! He was much more than that.

"Aye, Hiccup never took his responsibilities as heir of Berk seriously, he'd always disobey Stoick's orders, and cause nothing but trouble." Asbjorn added, Astrid glared daggers at her father, but the elder Hofferson continued. "I trust the marriage price is enough?" Asbjorn asked hopefully, Geir nodded and smiled. "Of course! Your price is fair and I believe your daughter and my son will be a match worthy of the gods blessing!" Both men chuckled at that shook hands sealing the deal, not giving Astrid a voice in her decision whether or not she'd want to marry Chieftain Geir's son.

Freya Hofferson sat Astrid down quietly while the men continued to work out the wedding plans, Astrid whispered yelled. "You two did this behind my back?! I'm already being groomed to become Berks chieftess, which leaves me exhausted and stressed out enough, then you two throw this on me as well?!" Astrid spat out, Freya gestured her to keep her voice down, she then gave Astrid an apologetic look. "I tried to convince your father Astrid, but you know how he is. Besides, you're the proper age to marry anyway, Stoick and Geir have been friends yes, but he offered Tree-root tribe a hand in hopes of forming an alliance, and..." Freya licked her lips then back at her daughter. "...your marriage to Geir's son Magnus will solidify that alliance."

Astrid shook her head in disbelief, she was angry, stressed, and tired, the blond spitfire glared into her mothers eyes and snorted. "I don't want to marry him! I don't even know him!" She seethed out, Freya held a finger out at her daughter. "I know. But our allies have reported that our enemies and unknown Viking tribes are everywhere now, we need all the allies we can get, not only are Tree-root tribe excellent boatbuilders, but they're excellent warriors as well. You need to perform you solemn duty as a Viking woman." Freya said in a loving yet firm tone as well, she knew her daughter had no interest in marriage, but desperate times called for desperate measures.

Astrid blinked away tears of anger, she wanted to scream to the top of her lungs and hack the entire forest down, but she feared even that wouldn't be enough to put out the roaring rage in her mind.

"May this marriage be the start of a very fruitful friendship Asbjorn Hofferson!" Geir said in friendly tone, Asbjorn too nodded and the two grasped forearms. "May the gods bless both our houses with nothing but good fortune!" The two males laughed and shared a quick hug and Magnus turned his gaze at Astrid, he gave her a friendly smile, Astrid however couldn't return it, so she gave him a firm nod instead. When the royal members of Tree-root tribe left the Hofferson household, Asbjorn turned around to face his wife and daughter.

"You and Magnus's wedding will take place in next week. I know that this isn't what you wanted Astrid, but its for the greater good of Berk and our people! Our enemies are lurking and despite your skills as a warrior, you need a strong and capable Viking man to protect you." He said, Astrid scoffed at her fathers words, he was acting like she was a common woman and was unable to even protect herself.

"Father. I can take perfect care of myself! Is that not why I trained as a shield maiden in the first place? I don't need a man in my life right now!" Astrid pouted out, Asbjorn however frowned in disapproval at his daughters attitude and words. "That's beside the point Astrid! You need a companion to watch your back, and Geir's son is that partner for you! Magnus is not only a great warrior, but he's cunning as well, he'll protect you from the scum out there!"

"Father..."

"Thats enough Astrid! The deal has been made."

Astrid punched the table and rushed up her room and slammed the door shut, she exhaled shakily as she slid down the door of her room and began sobbing bitterly. It seems the gods were finding new ways to punish her for abandoning Hiccup.

"Odin have mercy." She pepped out, she wiped her eyes and turned her axe butt around to see Hiccup's initials there, she chuckled lightly at the sight, right now? Being killed by a Night Fury didn't sound so bad, she'd reunite with Hiccup in Valhalla and they could spend the rest of their immortal lives becoming friends.

If only it were that easy.

(Unknown location)

Somewhere in the North of the Barbaric Archipelago, a fleet of ships from beyond the Viking world had gathered within a massive icy chamber. Everyone gathered there was of different races, tongues, and cultures, they were all being led by a man who had lost everything as a boy, and who swore to rise above the fear of dragons.

Drago Bludvist.

The mad warlord stood at the front of his dreadnaught, he gazed upon his army of both man and dragon, the warlord has led his army to countless victories all over the world. His warriors, lieutenants and generals were a major contribution to his victories yes, but the main reason Drago had secured so many victories was because of his dragons. He possessed a Bewilderbeast, and he who controls the alpha controls them all.

"Lord Bludvist!"

Drago turned around to see his men drag a wounded soldier and then throw him on the deck of his ship, the soldier panted heavily and visibly shook as Drago approached.

"M-my lord." The soldier stuttered out, Drago then looked at the two who brought him here. "What happened to him?" Drago asked, one of the soldiers answered. "This man was stationed at one of your outpost stations used to transport dragons, when we arrived, most of the dragons were freed, and those left at the outpost were dead."

Drago snarled in anger at this news, the only reason he and his army came to this place was to gather more dragons for his army, and someone dared to disrupt his operations? Drago then turned to the soldier on his knees. "Who attack that outpost? Who. Freed. My. Dragons?" He seethed out, the soldier trembled in fear but answered. "T-there were... t-two dragon riders! One of them rode a Stormcutter and the other rode... a Night Fury." Everyone turned their heads at the mentioning of a Night Fury, Drago too was finding this hard to believe.

"The last of the Night Furies are dead!" He said, the soldier shook his head. "I swear to you Lord Bludvist... I saw the Night Fury with my own two eyes! I-I would never lie to you!" The soldier stuttered out, the warlord hummed in thought, he knew the rider and the Stormcutter, those two have disrupted countless operations of his in the past, and he reinforced his outposts to ensure that infernal dragon rider couldn't disrupt his plans.

But a Night Fury?

That dragon could destroy a single outpost within minutes, Drago wondered how one of the most rarest dragons in this world had managed to escape annihilation. It mattered not, this Night Fury was aiding the dragon rider, so if he took the dragon riders nest? He'd take the nests alpha, the population of dragons and perhaps the last living Night Fury.

"Stop all preparations!! We will attack the dragon riders nest at once!! Prepare to move out! We leave at dawn!" Drago roared out to his soldiers, they all roared in acknowledgment, the warlord returned to the front of his dreadnaught and gazed at his army. He'd remove this dragon rider out of the equation and take her dragons and add them to his own, then he'd move on to the next land.

"This world will be free from the tyranny of dragons, in the end, they will all be dead or under my command." Drago chuckled to himself as he wrapped his dragon skin cloak around his body and continued to watch the rippling and bubbling waters below him, leaving him time to think of a sound strategy to finish off this dragon rider for good.
