Another Happy Covid Tale

The Kindness of Strangers

Every day the television news has been dominated by the effects of this awful Coronavirus. How it has changed people's lives and made it far more difficult than it already was.

One such programme concentrated on a single man with two small boys. The boys were at their oldest five years and eight years, but probably a bit younger than that. They live in a block of flats in Bristol on the 15th floor! It goes to show how bad the housing situation is that people have to live like that. Children, in my opinion, should never be living in high rise flats. Bristol does have housing problems, however, which seem hard to remedy.

Obviously, living on the 15th floor, the man and his children have to use the lift.  Because of the virus, the father tries to keep the boys from touching the walls of the lift in case they pick it up. The flat they live in is not huge and the children have very little space to play in. The Coronavirus has added to their feelings of confinement.

An elderly couple who own a holiday home in Devon, saw the plight of the single dad and his children and offered them a week away in Devon where the children could play on the sand and fish in streams. And it came about, this wonderful holiday! I watched, in tears, as the boys played on the sandy beach by the rock pools and fished in a stream with their little nets!

How lovely it is when people care and share! I am sure it was a holiday the children and their father will never forget, nor the kindness of strangers.
