i could deal with my feelings later.

right now, i needed to focus on making her happy.

we knew we were close to the dump because the unpleasant smell of rat feces and rotting trash loitered around us.

i watched as olivia crinkled her nose in disgust, the hint of a smile on her face.

when we made it to the dump, we threw our bicycles to the ground and ran past the front gate.

no one seemed to care that two teenagers were going to rifle through trash.

olivia rolled up her sleeves and my heart began to ache when i saw scars of different lengths cover her wrists and forearm.

thankfully, she didn't notice my staring and she started to dig through the closest trash pile.

i followed her lead but i couldn't mask the disgust on my face.

"ew! a banana peel!" she squealed.

she picked it up and chucked it towards me and it unintentionally hit me in my calf.

i laughed and i could see her eyes smiling mischievously at me.

"don't start something you're not going to win," i warned playfully.

she placed the old cereal box down and we peacefully continued our trash digging.

"would this work?" she asked, pulling out a small mirror.

the glass was shattered and some of the pieces were missing, but it would work perfectly.

i nodded and took the mirror from her hands, wanting to make sure that she didn't get hurt.

i slid the broken mirror into my backpack along with the other items we had collected.

"one more thing!" she said proudly as we hopped on our bikes.

"one more thing," i repeated, not wanting this moment to end.
