Demo

Each year we put on a student demo. It is a combination of pieces that our teachers have choreographed over the year and that we have perfected for months. Our contemporary dance got canceled last minute because people weren't showing up to that class and they would end up showing up to the demo and expect to just participate even though they hadn't been there for the last couple weeks.  Also, our contemporary teacher procrastinates and takes forever to come up with a short contemporary piece so yeah it got canceled and probably for the best.  We went through the demo of the day before and I have to say the run-through went well which is always a good thing no glitching music no other major problems and everyone got their spacing down so that's really want to run through is meant to do. When the actual demo came we had to be there an hour before the show which is typical dance procedure for those of you who don't know. One of the other things that was different from it is that you warm up on your own.  There's no class, nobody telling you to warm up you just gonna do it on your own.  The actual demo went extremely well.  The first piece that my level did was a flat dance that was roughly 5 minutes long which is a bit long but you know what we had been working on it since before Christmas so we we had it down and I felt at least that I did well some of the other girls felt differently but that's what happens. And then the second piece was a pointe piece that we had done for dancing and deserts.  So that piece we had already danced in front of an audience.  Once again I felt like I did well and a couple other dancers didn't do well. Let me just be up front with you there was one dancer who joined us towards the end of the year and I don't think she should have been allowed to be in both dances because she didn't know the dances that well and was constantly making the same errors over and over again.  To me that feels unfair because the rest of us have been working on it and if someone else messes up often times what happens is other dancers doubt themselves and are wondering wait wait is she right or am I  what's going on and before you know it they forget their next step and if you forget you next step that can really throw you off.  To be fair I was in her shoes last year but the differences was that I have been dancing ballet for years and she just started a classical ballet training and has been doing contemporary most of her life. So this was her first actual performance doing a ballet piece and I didn't mind her doing the flat piece with us I just would've preferred her not doing the pointe piece.  Anyways, once again, have a great day and just keep dancing! ~Mia
