Chapter Twenty 

when vines spread, does the soul spread too

3rd person pov 

soon enough, rachel was able to track down donna and they went to their location as they saw gcpd shooting at them. rachel and mars looked at each other and nodded before kamari shot out her vines at some of them and rachel used her powers to mess with one of their bodies. 

"get this thing off me" he called out and rachel threw him away as the vines ripped them apart and threw them. they finished off the men and gar came out as a tiger and growled at the last man making him faint and kamari laughed. 

"why don't you get out of that fur suit and come say hi?" donna said and kamari smiled at her before she looked behind her and saw tim. 

"kam?"

"hi tim" she exclaimed and he ran over and hugged her making her hug him back with a smile and a laugh. 

"jeez, you look good for someone whos undead" rachel told donna 

"oh thats sweet, hey, look lydia told me that you held vigil for me. i really appreciate that" donna exclaimed 

"well it probably did more for me then it did for you but hey i tried" 

"funny how that works huh?" 

"hey kiddo" she called to gar as he ran over "

"if it aint wondergirl the sequel?" and they hugged 

"we have to go, dick sent us to find you. theres something going down with crane " rachel told donna and tim looked at kamari who nodded telling him that was true. 

"think we're gonna need a minute" donna told tim and they watched him with his family and kamari smiled at the sight of them letting him go. she couldn't help but be proud of him as he walked over to them 

"called it" donna said and kamari laughed as they all looked at each other. they went back to the control room and saw dick walk in after they heard what happened. they began to research anything and everything 

"gar what do you know?" dick asked him 

"i sit in one of the dives on fifty-second street. theres like 20 dive bars near 52nd street" gar stated 

"narrow it down,find the one" he told gar who turned to kamari. she shrugged and looked more 

"hey, what do you guys got?" he asked the other ones 

"line 76, who can reach the deaf? who can speak for the dumb? gotham school for the deaf is at the corner of machine and tenth" tim stated 

"but there are also four branches of the wayne institute for child develop, each with a program for disabled kids, including the deaf. do you think he'd target them because of bruces connection?" rachel asked 

"find the one closest to midtown, near hotels, hospitals, apartment buildings. he'd want maximum damage" he said and he walked over to blackfire and conner as kamari read the pges over and over until she found a connection with her mom 

"when vines spread, does the soul spread too? or does it stay in standpoint view?" she read to gar and he looked at her. 

"is that about your mom?" he asked 

"it could be but standpoint view? whats that?" she said and she read the other pages but couldn't find anything. she felt at a standstill and she didn't know why 

"all right everybody stop. forget the poem, forget the clues. we've been going about this all wrong" and he walked out to call barbara but he came back in as conner began to explain something to them 

"okay so i'll try to keep this simple. you have cold moist air over here, see? and then you have hot air over here. add in some atmospheric  particulates , mix well and the results are obvious" conner explained 

"yeah, we get it , its a storm but a storm was our idea. we literally just told you that" donna said to him 

"but i drew it on the board" he said 

"the question is can we do it without getting ourselves killed?" rachel asked and kamari nodded. 

"i was wondering the exact same thing" she told them 

"only one way to find out" kory said and they came up with a plan. kamari would go with tim, dick and gar to the house and the girls would drain the pit. she stood and listened to the plan with a smile

"okay okay im in, whats the code?" he asked and kamari said it instantly 

"42069" she exclaimed and he turned to her

"jason was the one who set it up" she told them and gar walked away and off. kamari knew that jason was there in the house and she wasn't ready to face him again but he was on their side now and she knew that. 

"kamari go with him, make sure hes safe" he told her and she let the vines spread as she followed him to the house. 

"we're in" she stated after she and gar broke into the house 

"good, head down the hall and shut off the alarm" dick said and she walked down with gar as they shut it off together. they went back into the room as they searched for something but they couldn't find it

"i dont see it" gar told dick 

"okay, look down the left leg of the nightstand" he told them and they did it together. 

"theres a button on the back" dick said and she pushed it as they found what they were looking for and they went to the room but kamari and gar stopped at the sight of jason 

"dick sent me , okay? im on your side" he told them and gar stared at kamari who stared at jason. he was waiting to see what she would do. jason turned and shot someone before he turned and looked at them 

"see?" he said 

"thanks" gar said and kamari sighed 

"thanks jaybird" she stated and he stared at her. 

"i think we need to talk" he exclaimed 

"yeah, but lets finish this for good" she told him and he nodded in agreement and understanding 

"set up the router, i got the hall" he told them and they nodded. kamari stood near the wall as gar went to the router and she listened. 

"what the name of the one who got away?" he asked

"selina kyle" kamari and tim said together 

"whos selina kyle?" 

"his ex lover" she stated and dick snuck into the house. they looked at each other and went to go down to the basement 

"lets go" dick said to jason 

"no" he told them and kamari turned to him before she turned to dick. 

"you guys go, i'll talk to him" she exclaimed and dick stared at her 

"are you sure?" he asked 

"its jason, he won't hurt me" she explained and dick left with gar as she turned to jason and he stared at her 

"whats wrong jaybird?" she asked 

"this is a titans job and i'm not a titan. he knows i turned on him kam, you have to finish it" he told her and she sighed. 

"i don't want to finish it without you, we're partners in crime remember?" she said and he sighed 

"i killed people kam, i hurt you. tell the others im sorry and if this is meant to be, we'll find each other. i'll find you again petal" he said and he kissed her forehead 

"be safe bird" she said and he nodded as he walked off and she turned to walk down with dick, gar and now tim. they saw crane there and kamari smiled 

"i asked barbara to set up a duplicate screen. you didn't detonate anything, whats the matter all your clever hopes and dreams just expirded?" dick asked him 

"tim  didn't you say you wanted to see the batcave? here it is, what do you think?" kamari asked 

"its a little crowded" he said and she smiled

"do the honors" kamari said and he walked towards crane 

"who are you supposed to be huh?" crane asked 

"my name is tim drake, you tried to kill my family. you failed, thats for gotham bitch" he said after he punched him and kamari smiled 

"barbara tell me something good" dick called 

"playing tell me something good by rufus and chaka khan" they heard and they all smiled 

"i think thats a sign" kamari told them. they celebrated and the next day, kamari saw that bruce came home. she hadn't seen jason but she didn't care too much about it. 

"so is this home?" ivy asked as she walked into her daughters room and kamari nodded with a smile

"i think it is" she told her and ivy sighed. 

"well i think its time i get back out there for the greater good, im going to help people in the way that i always should've" she stated and kamari smiled 

"im proud of you mom, thank you for always being there for me" she exclaimed and ivy nodded as she left the house. kamari and the others went to the airport as they waited for dick 

"hey, did someone order a bus?" gar asked. it stopped in front of them and donna got out with dick 

"dick, what is that?" rachel asked 

"thats an rv. i figured it would be way more fun then taking bruces jet" dick said 

"why would that be more fun?" kory asked

"road trip" gar said and he ran to the bus but dick turned to mars and they stared at each other. 

"you have something you need to fix" he told her and she nodded. 

"i do, but i'll call you and check in" she told him and he hugged her making her hug him back with a smile. she watched the rest of them get on the bus and drive away making her sigh. 

now she had to fix the past, the present and the future
