Strangers Tonight

There are moments in your life when nothing you learned truly makes any sense, and you end up exploring something entirely new.

The silence between us was killing me, yet I didn't want to be the one to break it, not when I had no idea about what to say. You were beyond my expectation. Not just the looks, but your presence itself was enough to make me stay rooted in my seat. A small smile appeared on your face, and the dimples on your cheeks caught me off guard. Just when I thought you were charming, you had to add that extra spark to the list.

"Are we going to act like mutes till midnight?" You asked in your deep voice. "Although, I have no problem spending rest of our time together just by looking into each other's eyes. I do want to have a decent conversation."

All that while, my eyes were on the movement of your lips. How they were the most tempting when you lifted them in a subtle smirk, and I realized I was gawking. I quickly shifted my attention to the menu placed beside me.

"Yeah, you're right. We should start with the most important agenda of this meeting." I closed the menu and heaved a deep sigh. "I know it doesn't make sense."

There was a long pause as your Amber eyes bored into mine. The golden locks covering your forehead gave me an urge to brush them into place. I wondered how soft it would feel against my skin.

"What doesn't make sense?" Your voice had an edgy touch to it.

"I mean, why are we even here. I don't know you, and you don't know me either. I was so stupid to ask you for an impromptu date even without knowing who you are." I squeezed my eyes and looked at you with the thought that you didn't find me too desperate.

"I think so too," you nodded calmly.

If you thought I was stupid then, why did you even come for the date?

"Then why did you come for the date?" That came out harsh. By then, my palms were sweating, and I wanted nothing more than to run back to my house.

The smile was back on your lips as you handed me the tissue. I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself. It was out in the open that I was an amateur in the dating field.

"I came to tell you exactly that. Indeed, it was stupid to ask a random guy for a date and even show up alone looking all beautiful." You said sternly, and I knew you were serious about every word you spoke.

And what had me blushing was that you thought I looked beautiful. With my average looks, I had never been the one to be called beautiful. But you were the one who thought I was. I gulped down the shyness creeping into me and directed my focus on the reason for you going through with my impulsive outburst. Ughh! I felt like a kindergartener all of a sudden.

"So you came here to give me a lecture on my stupidity. If so, then I think we are done here." I frowned and looked into your amber eyes.

Your face reflected seriousness. "Oh, come on, don't you think you are too young for this entire blind date idea. People in their twenties explore these things."

You were indeed right.

"Maybe, it's because I have zero knowledge about this entire dating thing. I'm so going to stay single even in my thirties." I groaned.

You laughed, and I swear my heart did a flip. Why every little thing about you made me breathless? Before I met you, there was only one person who had these effects on me. I thought only Adrian had the power to turn my heartbeat erratic, but soon you proved me wrong.

"Believe me! You wouldn't. If I had met you earlier, you wouldn't be sitting here at all." You grinned.

Your words made me almost choke on air. Not just the charms, you had the wits too, and somehow it heated my cheeks. Your devilish smile, on the other hand, had already made butterflies go wild in my stomach.

"So, do you wanna like share something about yourself?" I asked hesitantly.

The boyish grin on your lips and the quirk of your eyebrows, dear Augustus, were enough to freeze me on the spot. "How about we stay strangers tonight?"
