Season one, episode eighteen

HUNTER, SKY, AND BONNIE BUSIED THEMSELVES with finding the things they needed to move Skylyn into Bonnie's home. They were using Hunter's saved up money to buy the blonde girl clothes, food, and whatever else she needed to not be a burden to Bonnie's father. Even after Sky's vision, the group felt at ease together, doing something normal, something fun.

"I don't know, should I choose the red, or the yellow?" The Laveau girl questioned, holding up the same shirt in two different colors for them to see. "I feel like the yellow washes me out a little bit but I do wanna wear darker colors, y'know and—"

Hunter checked the price tag on the shirt and lightly shook his head, letting out a scoff, "for that price you're not getting either of them. I could buy a sheep and make you a shirt."

"I don't think that's how that works." Bonnie let out a small tut and put the red shirt against Sky's chest. "I say this one, i'll buy it since mr cheap here won't."

Though he felt a tad bit insulted, the Saltzman boy smiled to himself, even if the two girls were making fun of him, they weren't as sad and stressed as they had been and that's all that really mattered to him.

"Isn't there like a goodwill or something around here?" Hunter questioned, folding one arm over the other.

"She's going to a new school, Hunter. Let her get what she wants." Bonnie shrugged her shoulders slightly as Sky excitedly went through all the racks in front of her. "She has been through a lot."

"Plus you're kicking me out so you owe me." The blonde girl quipped, making her way down the aisle and farther away from the pair that took her to the store.

"That wasn't me!" Hunter yelled after his cousin but, by the time his sentence was finished, she was long gone exploring the store.

The pair stood in silence for a few moments, before the Saltzman boy gathered himself together and finally asked what he had been dying to ask for a few days now.

"How do you feel?" In hindsight, the question how do you feel might not have been very serious to some but, he knew how loaded it truly was. The Bennett girl was going through the death of a loved one, powers she had no clue what to do with, and friends she didn't quite know if they were friends or not.

... but, he had to know how she was feeling if he had any chance of helping her.

"I'm.... Okay? I think i'll be ready to go back to school soon and... you know, face everything. I just—... it's been hard, you know? Grams has been my only family besides my dad for forever now and now that I don't have her—" Bonnie trailed off, not being able to find the proper words.

"I get it, more than anyone probably." Hunter leaned his back against the wall, his eyes looking towards the ground. "When we finish shopping, how about we take Sky home and I take you out to eat?"

"Oh—... well.. I—"

"I just have a story I want to tell you, I think that maybe it'll get your mind off things, or maybe even help you understand magic better... i'm not sure what it will do but I think you could use the story." The Saltzman boy explained.

"Sure, i'd like that." Bonnie smiled faintly at the boy, he made her happy, and she couldn't quite put her finger on how or why but, he did.

"Alright, I got everything!" Sky spoke, the girl walking back with a pile of clothes in her hand.

Hunter and Bonnie exchanged a look and laughed, knowing the cousins would probably get into an argument about what she would actually be getting from the store.

HUNTER HAD TO ADMIT HIS PALMS WERE SWEATY at the idea of finally really sharing his story with someone. The only other person on earth, besides the people hell bent on wiping him off the planet that knew about all of this was Sky, and they both decided not to tell others. Something about Bonnie made him want to do this though, he wanted to share everything with her.

"I guess I have to kinda start from when I was born.." the Saltzman boy cleared his throat lightly, looking down at the table. "My coven was filled with women only, my family had sons but... they were never witches, you know? and they were far and few between. I think I was the only boy born in the family for like twenty years or something like that."

"So.. you're kind of like a miracle?" Bonnie spoke before taking a sip of her coffee, ready to take in whatever information her friend would throw at her.

"Not really, more of a curse. A psychic witch from another coven predicted I would cause a lot of trouble with my magic, tap into dark magic and kill a bunch of people, I guess. Nobody really liked the idea that much, especially the covens that lived around us. A lot of them were controlled by these super powerful vampires, and according to crazy psychic lady I was going to put them all in danger." Hunter cleared his throat and his hands began to shake. "When I started doing magic, everything was okay, you know? Nothing too bad but one time I accidentally got angry and threw someone against the wall, he got hurt really bad."

"Hunter... if you don't want to tell me this you don't have to." The Bennett girl placed her hand on top of his and the boy laced their fingers together.

"It's okay, I got this." Hunter continued. "The covens got together, and came up with a plan. They put a spell on me, if I use magic, bad things happen, like death, or bad weather, things like that but, being the stupid kid I was, I just couldn't stop. Whenever I would try to test my luck every few months, someone in my family would die, or some Earthquake would erupt. It was terrible."

The Saltzman boy felt like flashbacks were whirling through his mind at that point, most of them painful.

"I was making the covens angry, so my family and I, we decided to move away, they wanted to hurt me, kill me even, I don't know. Then about a year ago... someone tried to hurt Sky, I got so angry I just..." Hunter shook his head, frustrated by his emotions. "I used my magic, and he died. I mean... I killed him. I just..— I couldn't stand by and do nothing anymore. My mom got sick after that and I knew it was the curse. I killed someone, and because I did that it killed my mom. I'm responsible for my whole family's pain. I'm the reason—... i'm the reason that they killed everyone in front of Sky. The witches from back home, maybe the vamps who run the coven. They wanted me to know they found out where I was. That's why Sky is still alive, I know that."

"Do you think they know you're in Mystic Falls?" Bonnie's jaw was practically on the floor right now, having no idea what to say.

"No... not yet. I don't think so at least but I need to make sure I don't use my magic. Or they'll come after me, and everyone I care about." The Saltzman boy sighed. "and that number has gone up since I moved here. Just promise me, Bon... if I have to leave for some reason, take care of Sky. I know everyone asks you for a lot but... you're the only person I trust with her."

"Of course I would but i'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that doesn't need to happen." The Bennett girl responded, smiling lightly as she felt Hunter's hand tighten around her own.

This is exactly why he needed to tell her, he felt calmer somehow, they both did.

AUTHORS NOTE—
