She lived alone with her owl. Vivey was very small, had violet eyes, probably five inches tall, light brown and extremely sassy. Every time someone would try to pet the tiny owl, Vivey would hold up a talon or a wing as if to say "Woah! Don't you dare touch me." Sometimes if she was very annoyed, Vivey even started clawing you.
Roy and Troy plays a game where they had touch the tiny owl without getting hurt. Every now and then, their parents or another family member had to use 'Episky' (able to heal minor injuries). Grandmother Kailenna chuckled at these moments and then would scold her bird.
Layna noticed that her laugh was false and face was anxious. No one else in her family would see this, not even aunts, uncles, or cousins. But that wasn't the only odd thing.
There was multiple recipes for different poisons piled around the old lady's house and they were always different. But it seemed that only Layna saw them as poisons. Whenever there was a family gathering(always at Grandmother Kailenna's house), an adult family member would pick up a never-before seen recipe. They'd show it around excitedly and say in amazement: "Look at this recipe. I have never seen this before. I can't believe that Kailenna came up with this amazing antidote."
Layna's argues were like this: " I don't mean to be rude, but that's a poison, a deadly poison." Then someone would ask her pareants if she was ok. Layna knew that her parents knew that she meant well, but they always had that look of dissapointment of their face.
Whenever her family came back from their yearly visit to Grandmother Kailenna's house, Layna's parents were raving about the old women.
"I can't believe that she has books written by Merlin!"
" That grandmother of yours is remarkable!"
For some reason, Layn never heard or knew these facts. She guessed that when Grandmother Kailenna asked her to feed Vivey, she talked about her accomplishments. Even Roy and Troy would share this sort of knowledge. They were the most liked by Grandmother Kailenna. For some reason, right before they would leave her house, she would whisper to the boys. Roy and Troy walked out the front door with knowing looks.
They got a ton of gifts from her as well. Last year it was mini broomsticks. The year before was a hundred chocolate frogs each. Thankfully, thier mom made them give some to their two sisters. On the other hand, Layna had the empression that Grandmother Kailenna put Vivey up to stalk her. Often it looked like a small, brown pompom was being flung from Layna's head. Grandmother Kailenna only ever gave her a gift in person, not sent for Christmas or her birthday.
The day after the last day of school, Grandmother Kailenna invited the familly to her house. It was an earlier visit then normal. Usually it wasn't until the middle of August. When they heard the news, Layna's siblings went berserk. Emley loved exploring the old house and Roy and Troy couldn't wait to play with Vivey.  Layna was not as happy. All she wanted to do was read and watch quidditch (Layna's dad insisted they had a muggle TV in their house. He also figured out how to broadcast quidditch with magic).
When they arrived at Grandmother Kailenna's house, Roy and Troy instently ran inside the find Vivey.
"Well hello family," Grandmother Kaillena had just glided into sight. "Come in, now that you are here we can start."  Layna frowned, thinking that the old women was going to give her brothers another gift.
In the living room, Grandmother Kailenna was gathering the entire familly. When everyone was sitting down, Grandmother Kailenna started to speak.
"Thank you for arriving here on such short notice, but I must address something. Layna, will you please come up here." Layna was surprised as she walked to Grandmother Kailenna. Vivey suddenly popped out of nowhere and started circling the two. Grandmother Kailenna put something in Layna's clutch.
"This," she stated,"Is one of my old necklaces. It belongs to you know." Layna looked at the necklace in her palm. It reminded her of a spider web. The part that went around her neck was made up of several thin black strings. The pendant itself was made of seven gold beads, each with twelve silver dots. The beads formed a circle, and inside the circle a bunch of translucent string crossed over each other to form a spiders web.
"Wow," whispered Layna. She instantly tied it around her neck. "Thank you Grandmother."
The rest of the night went by without a hitch. Layna's Aunt Soleil was cooking dinner. Her five year old daughter, Cece came running into the living room from the kitchen.
"Foods ready!" She announced. Roy and Troy were the first to run to their dinner.
Supper was delicious. Eveybody was able to make room for thirds of everything. During the middle of dessert, Grandmother Kailenna stood up to make a toast.
"Thank you family for this visit so early in the summer. Now, I would like to make a toast to-" But who she was toasting, they never knew. With her hands around her throat, the women colapsed onto the ground, her owl resting on her body.
Grandmother Kailenna was dead.
