Gasping, you managed to drop yourself across the corridor, down to the lab.

A familiar sight greeted you, Baird, with his eyebrows drawn together and a concentrated look on his face. He typed some codes into the computer while his eyes were fixed onto a holographic card of space.

Next to him lay a folder, stuffed with mathematical drawings and calculations.

You knew the papers. They were yours. With raised eyebrows, you looked around for a moment, just to check if any more of your work was in use and took one step at a time down to him.

"I hope I did the math right.", you let yourself fall into one of the chairs with an exhausted groan. "Truth be told, I wasn't sure about a lot of it."

Torn from his thoughts, Baird blinked and eyed you.

"How is the wound?", he asked with a nod of his head into your direction.

Chuckling, you took your hand off the place where the scar was laying hidden underneath the clothes and showed him a small, red spot.

"The doctors did good work.", you said and applied pressure again, to ease the pain. "Everything is stitched together, but it's still bleeding."

"How did you not bleed out yet? I've seen you in the cool room. Damn, that was a lot of blood."

You huffed.

"Blood transplants. Apparently, Jinn gave order to provide me with the good stuff."

"Huh, yeah, she has no other choice."

"Why?"

"Because your papers make the most sense to you.", he pointed at the hologram. "The satellites are not programmed as they are supposed to."

Frowning, you looked up and took a look for yourself.

"I thought you're the man for all?", you asked, but started working as well.

He shrugged.

"I might know a lot. But not everything. And it seems you spent a good amount of your lifetime with this before you turned to the windflares."

"Hm. I tried some things out. No big things, just... fantasies in case we would need the Hammer again. Childish paranoia."

"Turns out, your paranoia saves our asses now. Can you hook them up?"

Shrugging, you turned to the screen.

"We need to program them so they put themselves into place.", you bit your lips while connecting to one of the satellites signals. "Do you have the coordinates?"

Baird shook his head.

"Wild story, the coordinates were lost long ago, as the Hammer crashed the first time.", he pointed at one of your drawings. "But this, this looks like good shit."

You threw a quick glance at the paper. It was a drawing of the satellites positions, surrounding earth in equally big distances, which formed a net that covered every single part of the planet. This method allowed the Hammer of Dawn to reach whatever coordination was set as a target.

"I drew this as a theory...", you said with one eyebrow raised.

Baird shrugged.

"Doesn't really matter. Did you do some calculations as well?"

"I think so. Wasn't it in the folder?"

"No.", he turned to take another look for safety, but stopped mid way as the ceiling started to shake.

Sighing, he looked up.

A warning popped up on the screen. An alarm sounded, followed by a robotic voice.

"Warning, multiple security breaches, Old Ephyra ruins.", the voice informed.

With a concerned look on your face, you turned to Baird.

"Should I be worried?", you asked.

He sighed.

"Yes and no.", as he turned to you, there was an apologetic shimmer hidden inside his eyes. "You're down here, which is good for you, so no worries. But JD is outside."

You swallowed heavily.

"Is he... What exactly is he fighting?"

"The Locust, Swarm... whatever they call it. Same bullshit."

"How's the situation looking?", you turned back to work, to not loose time while chatting about the misery outside.

"I don't know.", he growled and looked through the folder. "All my cameras are down. But you should put some faith into your boyfriend. By the way, if you don't want to trust, tell me where this damn calculations are!"

Sighing, you pushed yourself away from the table to make the chair roll across the room.

"There should be a folder with a warning sticker.", you said and scanned the room for the familiar sight. "Shit... where is it?"

"Jinn claimed some documents. Said it was the COG's right."

A loud groan escaped you.

"Of corse she did. Fuck!"

"Hey, calm down...", he stuck his head into a box which was stuffed to the brim. "I stole some stuff. Just tell me what I'm looking for. Here. Help out."

He pressed a stack of loose documents into your hands and started digging again.

With trembling fingers you skipped through paper after paper, from one calculation to another and so on. Drawing danced across the pages while the ceiling above started to shake so rapidly, it made the ground tremble as well.

Breathing quickly, you tried to find the right document but none of the numbers matched the drawing. All you needed was to see the first numbers and what kind of mathematical procedure you had used and it would be easy to spot the right one.

"I don't want to rush, but we need something quickly.", Baird reminded you and moved on to another box.

With a frustrated scream, you threw the papers away, only to widen your eyes in surprise. Stuttering with excitement, you pointed at one of the papers while desperately trying not to fall out of the chair.

"Baird!", you screamed. "Baird, quick! The paper!"

Overwhelmed, he let himself fall to his knees.

"Which one?", he asked with bated breath while letting his hands slide across the floor.

"The- the other- no- yes! No, the one next to it! The one with the star in the corner."

He snatched the paper off the floor and eyed it for a moment before jumping up and rushing to the computer again.

"Quick, tell me the combination!", he handed you the paper.

Your eyes could hardly read the numbers, that's how much your hands were shaking.

"Number 4 to section ZL...", you read out loud. "1 and 5 are in position. 3 to KT. And switch 2 with 6."

Tense, you watched as the satellites started moving across the holograph and claimed their rightful place. A buzzing sound filled the silence.

All at once, the lines between them got connected and a message lit up.

"Network connected.", the robotic voice announced. "Upload backup."
