Author's note: Personification was included in this chapter. According to https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/personification, personification means "attribution of personal qualities, especially a representation of a thing or abstraction of a person or by the human form. A divinity or imaginary being representing a thing or abstraction."
Dog's POV:
I, Fido Keller, was a witness to the crime.
Did anyone think to ask Me what I saw? No, it is just plain prejudice that is what it is these days. People would naturally assume only humans knew what took place here.
Yet, I saw everything with my bright deep blue eyes.
I know it sounds crazy.
Me a mere mutt being a witness to a crime, but it happened just the same.
I minded my own business. Eating food out of my dish as usual when I heard some noise in the living room. I thought it strange since I was an early riser, and the girls usually were slowpokes on getting up. I stopped and went to investigate.
I saw a mess. It was worse than my paw prints sort of mess.
There was cotton everywhere, and I thought it strange.
I stayed quiet on the down-low if you know what I mean.
I did not want to disturb whoever did this.
I was shocked when I saw her.
I recognized her as any decent pooch would.
I realized with horror it was my favorite twin, MaryBeth.
She stood there with a knife raised in her hand.
I waited to see what happened next.
I saw her vandalize the back door.
I could not understand why she did it.
I paid attention as she smeared blood from one hand onto the broken glass and the wall.
I followed her as she disposed of the murder weapon.
I tracked her to the basement next, where she did something bad.
I saw her as she shoved the body of one of my master's behind a pile of junk.
I shook my head in dismay.
Why did she do it?
I could not think of a single reason.
I did not stop then.
No, I raced upstairs after her.
I could not just let her get away with it.
As I heard footsteps approaching, I looked up.
It was the other master, the man of the house.
I saw him as he choked her.
I bite him.
I saw the fear in her eyes.
I watched as she pulled a dart out of her pocket.
I gasped in horror as she shoved it into his chest.
I ran.
I was afraid.
Who was to say if I would be the next to die?
I was freaked out.
I was just a dog.
What was I to do?
I was a small animal.
I was a breed that few knew what it was.
I laid down by the door and pretended to take a nap.
I opened my eyes as the police entered the house.
I wanted to tell them everything.
Bu,t how could I?
Not a single one of them spoke to me.
So, I kept all this bad stuff hidden away in my memories.
I supposed it was up to me now.
