Ok, so this review ain't spoiler free, so for those who want a quick little spoiler free review, here:

Short review:

Liked certain characters, deep meaning that doesn't come off too edgy, the OST is amazing, op was good, ed was meh, ending of the series could be better, left with a few questions but is a good anime. Recommend Tokyo Ghoul if you like Parasyte.

Parasyte is a manga that was made in like 1980s and only got an adaptation to anime in 2014 by Madhouse.

For once I'm happy that Madhouse made a complete series (*cough* HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD *cough*) and the actual anime was actually really nice.

For the actual review:

Storyline: 8/10

The way how the series evolved was quite good... From Shinichi Izumi getting his Parasyte in his right hand, and from there a few arcs of questioning human life and predators and shit (no wonder I'm so edgy these days, jeez) and Shinichi becoming his edgy self, to the death of Kana and then Ryouko doing her thing, giving birth to the baby, and her dying and the final arc, everything seemed natural and evolved quite nicely. That's what I liked about this series mostly, the evolution from a kid getting his right hand infected to a guy who has been enriched in just a 24 episode span.

The pacing was great, except the first episode, that felt kind of fast, but hey, Code Geass had that problem and in the end it was fine (and one of my favourite animes). Only real complaint was that they set the story in modern age, and if you did that... some of the parts will not make sense. Things like Parasyte's would've blown up on social media and the whole world would know. Plus, there would be more pics of them, or security cameras picking them up, so, it just seems kinda flawed.

I'd like to also add that Parasyte probably had the better storyline than Tokyo Ghoul (not Re, but the actual first series- but to be fair I only read the first 9 volumes and I don't like drawing comparisons, but I'll have to for the sake of the characters bit later on.) mainly that each arc was actually extremely important and the cast was fleshed out much better than TG's cast. I actually felt BAD for characters that I didn't know of, being murdered off without any personality. If a series can do that, I will applaud it.

Characters: 6/10

Shinichi Izumi, or the Japanese Peter Parker... Seriously, he looked like Peter Parker, but instead of being bitten, a Parasyte got shoved into his right hand. Using his new powers, he tries to get rid of evil...

Heck, they even lost important figures in their lives (Shinichi was his mom, Spiderman's was his Uncle) which only helps with the resemblance.

Put simply, Peter Parker and Kaneki had a love child and you get Shinichi. While I liked Shinichi's character, what I found more impressive was his shift to his edgy mode. While Kaneki's was all: Hey, you torture me? Cool fam, I'll release Kanedgy on you and become inconsistent as fuck cause I can! Shinichi's was more: OH GOD MY MOM DIED AND NOW IM GONNA DIE AAAAAR. Oh, I'm alive... I'm off to see dad... Dad, what was that monster?! ...damn... Hey Murano. And now I'm gonna be more consistent as a character.

Cause unlike Kaneki's one, getting rid of his personality early was better than building up a character, basically killing him off by replacing him with Kanedgy, and making his character just inconsistent. Shinichi managed to keep character without breaking it, and if he did, there was a good reason behind it.

Now, we move onto his Parasyte. Shinichi's Parasyte was Migi, a highly enjoyable character to watch. What I love about Parasyte is the development of these characters, and especially Migi's. Migi was... Well, subtly changing before I even realised, and when I did, it was at the end. I just love things like those... It's good story telling even though I'm not that good haha. Not only was Migi entertaining, he made Shinichi's character more interesting, and a big reason why so much of this happens.

Now, for the rest of the characters...
Speed round time

Shinichi's Mom: Pft, I don't care about her, she was there to make Shiniedgy
Shinichi's Dad: Character was as deep as a sheet of fucking tracing paper
Murano: I didn't like her
Kana: I actually liked her and hated when she died, cause not only was she my type of girl, but a way better fit for Shinichi than Murano... But alas, plot killed her. :/
Hideyoshi: Prick
Mr A: Didn't care
Ryoko Tamara: Interesting character
The Guy with 5 Parasytes: Forgettable name, forgettable character, not enough characterisation was given for me to care
The two schoolgirls that hung around Shinichi: Who?
Guy who nearly killed Murano in that last episode: Did he go to jail? Or what?! C'mon ending, GIMME ANSWERS!!
The Squad that eradicated the Parasyte's in that Building with the Guy with 5 Parasytes in those final like 3 episodes: ...eh?

As you can see, half the cast is very forgettable, which let me down as I really liked Shinichi and Migi.

Art: 6/10

I like the style, I liked the bodymorphing, but the art just didn't stick out to me much. Although, I liked the touch of more realistic art, like Death Note's, as it fitted in with the theme of "what happens if "________" entered our society today?" Thing, which is similiar to Tokyo Ghoul, but more realistic as in: There is no special squad to kill these monsters. Actual animation however, it was good, nothing less of Madhouse, so I have little complaints about Parasyte there.

Music: 9/10

Idk why, but the music was just my thing for some reason.

I've been into that screaming shouting heavy metal shit that was the op (the bad engrish made it even better)

The ed wasn't really my cup of tea, but, I enjoyed it.

But the OST is where it's at. While I believe that it was to give it a "modern" touch, the dubstep soundtrack was something I really liked, mainly because I'm just into that music. Not much to complain about tbh.

So, Parasyte, my 11th favourite anime (your probably like: Yo, your top 10 is random as shit, why is And You Never Thought A Girl Was Online? there bro?! Keep up your list man!) and I recommend it.

Suggested Animes to Watch if you like Parasyte:

Tokyo Ghoul

Kaneki is similiar to Shinichi, but the series takes a longer time to build up his transformation, but Ghouls eat humans the way Parasytes eat humans. People say: Read the manga, its better, so that's why I've strayed away from the anime, but you can go watch the anime, even though the second season went off route.

Masamune-kun no Revenge

Ok, weird choice yes, especially since it's still airing at the time I'm writing this, BUT! If you liked the love aspect of the series, I'd recommend Masamune-kun no Revenge, as it focuses on love and revenge, which Parasyte also handled slightly.  So sorry if this also seemed random, I need to recommend 3 anime, and I just can't think of another 2 which are similiar other than Tokyo Ghoul.

Blue Exorcist

Random, yes, but new season is out plus it has demons that can take over the hosts body, like Parasyte. Although, it's a "mindless" (later plots down the line make it better) shounen, its one of my favourite anime and entered me to this Otaku Life lol.
