(SOCKS POV)

I sat on the couch alone, looking around for something to do. I was a bit curious about how the remote worked, so I picked it up and started to press some buttons. When the TV didn't turn on, I just gave up and put the remote down.

Where the zait is Blaza? I thought.

I stood up and walked to the doorway. I peeked out, but saw no one. Once I continued down the hall, I saw Blaza standing at the door of the kitchen, talking to Meme.

"Blaza! There you are!" I said. Blaza turned around and smiled.

"Socks! Your awake!" He said. Meme just stared at me. Right. I hadn't changed back to human form - he probably didn't even recognize me.

"Hey, Meme!" I said. He looked away awkwardly.

"What's up with him?" I asked Blaza.

"Its... Complicated," Blaza replied. Then he seemed to stop for a moment, as if listening to something. But I didn't hear anything. He shook his head. "Sorry. Zoned out for a minute. You were saying?"

"I... Wasn't saying anything," I said. Something is definitely up with him.

"Oh..." Blaza said, "Alright, then. Wanna... Go out and do something?"

He may have his sunglasses on, but I could see him wink. I knew exactly what he meant by that.

"Of course!" I replied, "Let's go!"

"Do... You want me to come, or...?" Meme asked.

"Nah, its fine," Blaza said, "You go do your own thing. Me and Socks are gonna hang out."

"Alright!" Meme said, "I'll be at MedBay if you need me!"

As Meme walked out, Blaza turned back to me.

"I know a place we can go."

---------

About ten minutes later, after walking through some forest outside the house, Blaza and I stumbled across a small meadow area. The sun shone through the leaves that gave provided a sort of roof over the area, filtering light into the clearing.

"Whoa..." I said.

"Cool, isn't it?" Blaza said. He took a deep breath and continued forward. I took a minute to stretch my wings. My tentacles seemed to be hitting everything, so I retracted them easily. Probably could've done that earlier, but who cares. I continued following Blaza out into the clearing.

We sat down against a tree near the middle. I folded one of my wings around Blaza, and he leaned into me. I wished this moment could last forever.

But nothing is infinite. Especially time.

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I saw something in the undergrowth (or, as Blaza would say, in da booshes). It seemed to be a glowing orange figure.

"Blaza, did you see that?" I said. Blaza looked at where I was pointing.

"See what?"

"C'mon, let's check it out."

Blaza and I stood up and walked over to where I saw the figure. It was strange - it didn't seem so leave physical footprints. Just the shadow of them.

As we continued through the forest, I saw the glowing figure again. Blaza did, too.

"Over there!" He said.

We both bolted to the left, where we saw it disappear. I rounded the tree and stopped. Blaza bumped into me.

"What is it?" He asked.

"I... Don't know. Come see."

Blaza walked around me to see what I was seeing. He gasped.

Standing in front of us was a ghost.

Not just any ghost, however. It looked... Just like me in my human form. Except he was glowing orange, and his eyes were two X's. He also had a hole in his chest, as if he had been stabbed. The hole was glowing red.

(Crappy image quality ;v;)

We just stared at him for a moment. He stared back nervously.

"Who... Are you?" I asked.

He jumped, as if surprised by my question. He turned to Blaza and sighed. "You... Probably don't remember me, do you?"

Blaza just stared at him. "Do I... Know you from somewhere?"

"In a way," he said, "I'm Nicholas. But... Everyone calls me Socks."

Now I'm really confused. He looks exactly like my human form AND has the same name?

"We were friends when I was alive," Nicholas continued (we call him that so there's no confusion), "Until... L4FF killed me. In the cave, when he was trying to kill us all."

"I... Do remember the cave," Blaza said, "But... Not you."

"That's the thing about this limbo I'm in right now," Nicholas said, motioning to the surroundings, "The longer you're here, the less people remember you."

"Wait, who's L4FF??" I questioned, "What are we even talking about?"

Blaza turned to me. "About a year before your ship crashed, Laff wasn't as good as he is now. He was secretly a robot that wanted to kill us all. Has Meme ever told you about his wife, Wicktoria?"

"No..." I said.

"Well, he killed her on their wedding day," Blaza said, "After that, my memory's a bit fuzzy.... But I remember the day he killed Woolfster. He killed Muffin, too, but we were able to revive him. We don't know what happened to Woolf's body.

" L4FF trapped us in a giant underground cave. We were stuck there for about two weeks. The only reason any of us are alive today..."

Blaza turned to Nicholas, realization on his face. "...is because of him. I remember now!"

Nicholas's face seemed to light up - literally, the glow got brighter. "You remember?"

"I remember!" Blaza said, "After the wedding, Meme blamed you for killing Wicktoria, we had the war, and in the cave... You sacrificed yourself to save us."

"I'm still confused..." I said, "If Laff was a robot, how is he here now?"

"Socks, I mean, Nick, found him when he was recharging. He fixed him, and it made him human again. But before he pressed the button to get rid of the robot... L4FF powered back on and stabbed him. He had just enough time to press the button..." Blaza trailed off.

"Then, everything just exploded," Nick finished, "The reason I wasn't able to be revived. My body perished in the explosion."

"But... Then how is Laff still alive?" I questioned.

"Laff's alive?" Nick said unbelievably.

"No zait he's alive!" I said.

"But his spirit's here..."

"What??" Blaza said.

"In the explosion..." Nick continued... "When my soul left my body and made it to the surface, I was with Laff's spirit. We both died. I thought my sacrifice was for nothing."

"Is... Laff's spirit still with you?" I asked.

"Yeah!" Nick said, "Laff, come out!"

Suddenly, a forest-green apparition appeared. "Yeah?" He asked, his British accent clearly showing.

"Laff??" Blaza said.

"Yeah, mate!" Laff said, "How you'se been?"

"But- what- HUH?!?!" I stuttered, "Cah o zait?!?!"

"SPEAK ENGLISH!" Blaza said.

"Sorry, switched to Hybrodeic for a second there," I said, "If Laff's spirit is here... Then who is Laff there?"

"What are you'se talking about?" Laff questioned.

"Laff..." I said, "I was literally talking to you yesterday. And Nick..."

I turned to Nick and transformed back to my human form. He gasped and stepped back in surprise.

"What the hell...?" He said.

I changed back to my normal form. I liked it better.

"This means..." I said, "That... Someone is posing as Laff. And if my second form is someone who died... No, never mind, that couldn't be it. It has to be something else..."

"Couldn't be what?" Blaza asked.

"It's not important," I said. But it was important. If what I'm thinking is real... We could be in big trouble right now."

"Guys, come on," I gestured to Blaza and the two poltergeists, "We've got gotta go tell the others!"
