"We should be getting back to camp" Rainfeather mewed "the clan will be missing us." So she picked up Lilykit and got Lilykit's sister Violetkit to follow her, while Moonfall picked up Oakit.

The snow was falling hard, and Lilykit fluffed up her fur against the cold. Violetkit was struggling through the snow on the ground. Lilykit could tell it was going to be a long journey.

It wasn't long before the whole group was so cold, they had to stop. Just before they found somewhere to rest, Violetkit flopped onto the ground, shivering

"Violetkit!" Rainfeather screeched, dashing to her side "Moonfall, don't lick her, but help me rub her fur the other way."

They did that for a long time, then Rainfeather carried Violetkit in her jaws. They soon found a place to shelter, and rested.

***

Violetkit had met StarClan, and was sent back here. It was not her time to go yet. Ever since that, she got a little more sullen. It scared her. She snuggled closer to her mother's belly, afraid of getting too cold.

Autumnfrost was sunning himself on the halfrock when he heard a yowl from near the entrance

"Rainfeather and Moonfall are back! They have kits with them!"

At that, Autumnfrost jerked his head up as he heard paw steps and saw the two she-cats standing in the entrance. In Rainfeather's jaws was the small body of a kit, and one was

stumbling around her paws. Moonfall had one kit in her jaws.

Skystar stepped out of her den at the top of the highledge, and demanded "Moonfall? Rainfeather? Where have you been?" There was a hint of a snarl in her mew "my medicine cat, and one of my queens disappear in the middle of leaf-bare! Moonfall, your kits could have died!

That would be no help, now, would it?" Autumnfrost could tell that the leader was just worried for her warriors.

Rainfeather and her sister glanced at each other. Autumnfrost padded over to his mate's side as she said "actually, only one of these kits are hers."

Skystar looked surprised "so you brought more outsiders into the camp, Rainfeather?"

Rainfeather looked to Moonfall for encouragement, and the white-and-gray warrior nodded to her.

"Even if these kits aren't Moonfall's" Rainfeather began "they are not outsiders"

she looked defiantly up at Skystar "these kits are mine."
