Now that you have a basic understanding of our sexual organs, here is what you need to know about sex:

Procreation- It's primary function is to procreate. Procreation takes place when a sperm (comes from a man) fertilizes an egg (comes from a woman). This is how babies are made. The baby gets 1 set of chromosomes from each parent. This means they get 23 chromosomes from their mother and 23 chromosomes from their father. Their sex is determined by the sperm.

Even if using contraception, there is always a chance of getting pregnant from having sex.

Sexually Transmitted Infections- A (sadly) common consequence of having sex is getting an STI. There is at least 20 different STIs, meaning there is more than 20 of them out there. There are a total of 8 well known STIs. Of them, only 4 are curable. Those 4 are syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis. The 4 that are not curable are the viral infections known as hepatitis B, herpes simplex virus (HSV or herpes), HIV, and human papillomavirus (HPV).

Syphilis- Attacks the nervous system. Symptoms include headache, altered behavior, difficulty coordinating muscle movements, paralysis, sensory deficits, and dementia. Curable

Gonorrhea- Causes infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It can also spread to the uterus & fallopian tubes and cause pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) in women. Curable

Chlamydia- Causes urethritis (inflammation and irritation of the urethra) and proctitis (rectum irritation, diarrhea, bleeding, and discharge) in both men and women. Can also cause PID in women and make them infertile. Curable

Trichomoniasis- Causes inflammation of the genitals, which makes it easier to get and spread other STIs. Will also cause discharge in men, burning after urination (& ejaculation in men), and itching or burning in genitals for both men & women. Curable

Hepatitis B- Causes inflammation, swelling, and reddening in the liver, which can lead to liver damage. Can also cause cirrhosis, liver cancer, and death. Incurable

Herpes simplex virus (HSV or herpes)- Causes sores in the skin or lining of the mouth, vagina, and rectum. Incurable

HIV- Attacks the immune system of the body. It breaks it down until the immune system is unable to fight of other infections and diseases. It also causes AIDS. It can lead to death. Incurable

Human papillomavirus (HPV)- Can cause cancer in the cervix, vulva, vagina, penis, rectum, back of throat, base of tongue & tonsils. But, luckily, the chances are significantly low. Incurable, but the body can fight it on its own.

Not only can they be transferred through unsafe sex, but some of them can also spread through other bodily fluids such as blood.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will answer to the best of my abilities.
